On his 2d and final day in Israel, U.S. VP Pence visits Yad Vashem, the Western Wall, and meets with Israeli pres. Reuven Rivlin. In Amman, Jordan’s King Abdullah tells U.S. VP Pence that the only resolution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict will come through a 2-state solution and insists that East Jerusalem must be the capital of a future Palestinian state. “We hope that the U.S. will reach out and find the right way to move forward in these challenging circumstances,” he adds. The U.S. State Dept. announces that the Trump administration will not be providing the $45 million in food aid to Palestinians that it pledged in 12/2017 in response to an UNRWA emergency appeal. Instead, the aid will be frozen indefinitely. The announcement comes 2 days after the State Dept. announced that the Trump administration would be withholding $65 million in aid for UNRWA. Israel’s Strategic Ministry publishes a “blacklist” of 20 organizations supporting the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement, whose members are being denied entry into Israel. “We have shifted from defense to offense,” Strategic Affairs Minister Gilad Erdan says. “The boycott organizations need to know that the State of Israel will act against them and not allow [them] to enter its territory to harm its citizens.” Several individuals from listed organizations have reportedly already been denied entry because of their support for BDS. PA FM al-Maliki says that the Palestinian leadership has decided to request, at a summit planned for 1/6 in Amman, the implementation of the Amman Summit resolutions of 1980, which stipulated a political and economic boycott of any country that moves its embassy in Israel to Jerusalem. He also says that the PA will lobby in countries where Israeli diplomats are pressing governments to move their embassies to Jerusalem, and that they will wait for a new composition of the UNSC before resubmitting their application for full membership at the UN. PA FM al-Maliki says that the Trump administration is reconsidering its threat, 1st reported on 11/17, to shutter the PLO office in Washington, following the Palestinians’ refusal to comply with their demands.
