A poll conducted by the Palestinian Center for Policy and Survey Research found that 72% of the 1,200 Palestinians surveyed in the West Bank and Gaza supported forming armed resistance groups in the West Bank. 32% of the respondents supported a diplomatic solution to the occupation, based on the 2-state framework. In Lebanon, 1 Irish UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) soldier was killed and another injured during a routine patrol in al-Aqbieh in southern Lebanon. It was reported that UNIFIL vehicles had hit a resident of the town before the convoy was hit by small arms fire. Hezbollah said it was not involved in the incident. The UN General Assembly adopted the resolution, “Permanent sovereignty of the Palestinian people in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, and of the Arab population in the occupied Syrian Golan over their natural resources,” calling on Israel to end its exploitation of the natural resources of the lands it occupies. The European Parliament passed a resolution calling for an international conference to facilitate a 2-state solution to the Israeli occupation. An Israeli court upheld a demolition order for an apartment building in Wadi Qaddum in the East Jerusalem neighborhood of Silwan, giving the resident until 12/7 to demolish the building. Approximately 100 Palestinians reside in the building. (WAFA 12/5)

PA prime minister Mohammad Shtayyeh attended the COP27 climate summit in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt. At the sidelines of the summit Prime Minister Shtayyeh attended a meeting with Israeli environmental protection minister Tamer Zandberg, Lebanese prime minister Najib Mikati, Iraqi president Abdul Latif Rashid, and officials from Oman and Jordan and other countries in the Middle East. Israel and Jordan also signed a memorandum of understanding to continue work on an agreement made in November 2021 to exchange water, provided by Israel, for energy provided by Jordanian solar farms. In an interview with Kan, U.S. ambassador to Israel Tom Nides said that he will see how the next right-wing government speaks and acts before taking a position on the possibility of the Otzma Yehudit party forming part of the government. Ambassador Nides also said "[t]his is a country that is a democracy with elected leadership and I intend to work with them." In the final communique from the 1st Arab Summit in 3 years, Arab state leaders pledged their continued to support for Palestine, said Jerusalem must be protected, condemned Israeli use of violence against Palestinians, and urged Israel to lift the blockade of Gaza. The 31st Arab Summit, held in Algeria, was the 1st since the UAE, Morocco, Bahrain, and Sudan normalized relations with Israel. A spokesperson for the newly appointed UK prime minister Rishi Sunak said that his government does not intend to move the British embassy to Israel to Jerusalem, walking back statements made by Prime Minister Sunak’s predecessor Liz Truss who resigned last month. Truss, who like Sunak had been appointed by the Conservative Party, had told Israeli prime minister Yair Lapid that her government would review moving the British embassy to Israel to Jerusalem last month. Truss served as prime minister for 45 days before resigning due to dissatisfaction with her policies and popularity among Conservative Party members. Booking.com published warnings for listings in the West Bank. Booking.com had initially said it would will add a human rights warning to properties in the West Bank owned by Israeli settlers and add the word “occupied” to text referring to those properties. The final version was much more ambiguous as it referred to the listings as “conflict-affected,” following an Israeli pressure campaign. The Israeli supreme planning council approved expanding the road leading to the Israeli settlement Har Gilo south of Jerusalem. The widening of the road is a planned precursor to building a new settlement next to Har Gilo, which will completely enclose al-Walaja. The Israeli ministry of education told the Tel Aviv-Jaffa municipality that they could not use maps that depicted the Green Line for educational purposes or as posters in classrooms. The U.S. White House expressed concern over negotiations between the Israeli spyware company NSO Group and the American defense contractor L3Harris for the latter to buy technology from the former.
