Late in the evening, the IDF launches a massive raid on Khan Yunis, citing some 30 mortar attacks on nearby Jewish settlements since the 10/21 Gul assassination; fires missiles fr. pilotless drones at 2 groups of Palestinians, killing 2 PA policemen, wounding 6; conducts several air strikes, killing 5 armed Palestinians and 1 unarmed Palestinian, wounding 5 armed Palestinians and 4 bystanders; demolishes 3 Palestinian homes. Armed PRC mbrs. ambush, kidnap Gaza police chief Ghazi Jabali, exchanging gunfire with this bodyguards, wounding 2; parade him through the streets of al-Bureij r.c., accusing him of stealing $22 m. in public funds; release him unharmed. Mbrs. of the Abu Rish Brigades (ARB; a Fatah offshoot) kidnap 4 French citizens, hold them hostage at a Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS) office in Khan Yunis for several hrs., demanding that the PA fire corrupt security officials, before releasing them unharmed. The IDF attempts a predawn raid on Bureij r.c., Nussayrat r.c. in Gaza, but meets fierce resistance (rifle fire, rocket-propelled grenades, homemade antitank weapons, Molotov cocktails) fr. The IDF also fires on a group of Palestinians allegedly attempting to infiltrate Israel fr. Gaza nr. Bureij r.c., mortally wounding a Palestinian teenager, allowing him to bleed to death. Palestinians detonate a roadside bomb nr. an IDF convoy in Gaza, causing no damage or injuries. Hebron Jewish settlers attack local Palestinians with iron bars (seriously injuring 1), break the windows of 4 Palestinian homes to deter them fr. using a road linking al-Ibrahimi Mosque/Tomb of the Patriarchs and Kiryat Arba settlement. The PA hastily convenes a military tribunal to arraign 4 Palestinians in connection with the 10/15/03 Erez roadside bombing that killed 4 American security officers, charging them with possessing explosives and weapons, planting mines nr. the area of the bombing, but not charging them with the specific bombing that led to those deaths.
