Hundreds of Palestinians gather in Jabaliya refugee camp to protest U.S. pres. Trump’s 12/6 recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and the recent U.S. decision to cut aid to UNRWA. In the West Bank, IDF troops conduct a raid in Burqa village near Nablus, sparking clashes with stone-throwing Palestinian youths; 1 Palestinian is injured. Another Palestinian is injured in clashes sparked by an IDF raid in Bayt ‘Aynun near Hebron. IDF troops arrest 4 Palestinians and issue 1 arrest summons during raids near Bethlehem, Qalqilya, and Ramallah. Israeli forces demolish 3 residential shacks and a barn near Nablus and a home in Jiftlik village near Jericho; and patrol near Hebron. In East Jerusalem, Israeli forces arrest 2 Palestinians during a raid in Qatanna. In the Negev, Israeli forces demolish the Palestinian Bedouin village al-Araqib for the 124th time since 2010. In the West Bank, an Israeli settler driver allegedly rams a Palestinian youth in Hebron, causing moderate injuries. Israeli settlers block the main highway between Nablus and Ramallah, following the stone-throwing incident in the area on 4/28. IDF troops conduct raids in Jenin r.c., sparking clashes with stone-throwing residents: 1 Palestinian is injured. The IDF arrests 2 Palestinians and confiscate 1 car during further raids nr. Ramallah and Hebron, and patrols nr. Nablus and Hebron. Off Gaza’s coast, Israeli naval forces open fire on Palestinian fishing boats nr. Gaza City, causing no damage or injuries (2 fishermen are arrested). Along Gaza’s border, Israeli forces conduct a limited incursion to level land nr. Employees of the Palestinian telecom companies Jawwal and Paltel organize a sit-in in Ramallah in solidarity with the 1,500-plus Palestinian prisoners who have been observing the Dignity Strike since 4/17. IDF troops fire tear gas canisters at a group of Palestinians holding a similar sit-in nr. Nablus, sparking minor clashes; there are no serious injuries. (MNA 4/30; MNA 5/1)

In Gaza, telecom operator Jawwal reopens following an agreement with Hamas; there are no details released. In the West Bank, Palestinian assailants shoot and injure an Israeli settler nr. Qalqilya. IDF troops conduct late-night raids and house searches in 2 villages nr. Hebron, arresting 2 Palestinians; patrol during the day in 2 villages nr. Hebron, ‘Ayn al-Sultan r.c. and 1 village nr. Jericho. In East Jerusalem, an Israeli police jeep rams a Palestinian girl, moderately injuring her. Senior Fatah official Amin Maqboul says that the PLO’s talks on forming a new consensus govt. continue, despite Hamas’s objections to the process. Maqboul says that Hamas has demanded that any new govt. pay the salaries of all employees of the Hamas-run govt. in Gaza and describes the demand as among several “preconditions that widen the gap between the Gaza Strip and West Bank.” (MNA 7/6)

In Gaza, Hamas police shut down the offices of mobile phone company Jawwal (Hamas ordered the company to close on 6/26). Israeli forces on the Gaza border e. of Khan Yunis conduct a limited incursion to level land nr. the border fence. In the West Bank, IDF troops shoot and injure a Palestinian man at the Qalandia checkpoint. IDF troops later conduct a raid in a nearby village, sparking minor clashes with stonethrowing Palestinian youths. The IDF conducts a late-night raid on offices of the Palestinian Water Authority in a village nr. Ramallah, confiscating 2 computers; patrols during the day in 2 villages nr. Hebron. Israeli settlers assault a Palestinian man with sticks and stones nr. Ramallah, moderately injuring him. In East Jerusalem, Israeli settlers spray price-tag graffiti on a wall in Bayt Safafa. Following Palestinian attacks on 6/29, Israeli authorities set new restrictions on Palestinians entering Jerusalem, rolling back some of the restrictions loosened for Ramadan on 6/16. Specifically, women between 16 and 30 and men under 50 will need a permit to enter the city on Fridays. (HA, MNA 7/1)

Following a meeting of senior PLO officials in Ramallah, PA pres. Abbas fires PLO secy.-gen. Yasser Abed Rabbo, citing his absence from recent meetings. Abed Rabbo responds to the announcement of his firing by saying, “Abbas does not have the authority to fire me. The only party that is authorized to do so is the PLO Exec. Comm., which has to hold a general meeting.” Senior PLO officials also approve a temporary cabinet “shuffle” as negotiations continue on the formation of a new consensus govt. Abbas assigns PM Hamdallah to make “slight changes” to the govt., reportedly shifting 5 ministers. (JP, MNA, TOI 7/1)

The U.S. State Dept. issues a special statement clarifying that, while the Obama admin.“strongly opposes” BDS efforts targeting Israel, it does not have a similar stance regarding “Israeli-controlled territories,” referring to the anti-BDS provision that became law as part of the Bipartisan Congressional Trade Priorities and Accountability Act of 2015 on 6/29. In the West Bank, Israeli soldiers shoot and kill a Palestinian man with live ammunition at a checkpoint in the n. Jordan Valley after the man opens fire on Israeli forces; no Israeli soldiers are injured. IDF troops violently disperse Palestinian, Israeli, and international protesters at weekly demonstrations against the Israeli occupation in 6 areas nr. Ramallah (Bil‘in, Ni‘lin, Nabi Salih, Silwad, Jalazun r.c., and outside Ofer Prison), and Kafr Qaddum nr. Qalqilya; no Palestinians are seriously injured. The IDF conducts late-night house searches and raids in 1 village nr. Jericho, including the home of the Palestinian killed this morning, arresting 2 Palestinians; patrols in 3 villages nr. The Vatican signs a treaty officially recognizing the State of Palestine. Archbishop Paul Gallagher, the Vatican’s equivalent to a FM, says that he hopes the treaty might “in some way be a stimulus to bringing a definitive end to the long-standing Israeli-Palestinian conflict.” (The Vatican will deny Israel’s requests to review the treaty.)
