In Gaza, police arrest 2 Palestinians for allegedly planting an explosive outside al-Quds Open University. In Hebron, hundreds of Palestinians and international activists gather at the entrance to al-Shuhada Street (closed since 1994) to protest the occupation. Elsewhere, IDF troops violently disperse Palestinian, Israeli, and international protesters at weekly demonstrations against Israel’s separation wall, settlements, and occupation in 3 areas nr. Ramallah (Bil‘in, Ni‘lin, and Jalazun r.c.), and Kafr Qaddum nr. Qalqilya; 5 Palestinians are moderately injured by rubber-coated metal bullets. The IDF also patrols in 2 villages nr. Qalqilya. In Syria, where there have been a handful of small antigovernment actions since 2/16, 200 protesters (students, activists, families of prisoners) gather outside the Interior Min. to demand the release of political prisoners. Meanwhile, Syrian activists have organized a Facebook fan page online (with more than 47,000 fans) called “The Syrian Revolution 2011,” calling for massive protests after Friday prayers on 3/18. A 4th Palestinian dies of injuries received earlier. Palestinians fire 3 mortars at Gush Katif, causing some damage but no injuries. In Azariyya, the IDF closes the PA Information Min.'s temporary offices (opened after the IDF shut the main offices on 11/21), the al-Quds Open University Student Union office.
