In the West Bank, Israeli forces killed 3 Palestinians in Jenin, including a child and 2 others in a drone strike, raising the number killed during the more than 60-hour raid to 12, with at least 34 injured and more than 100 arrested. Israeli forces also demolished 3 homes during the raid. Elsewhere, Israeli forces shot and injured 10 Palestinians during raids in Beita, Silat al-Harithiya, Hebron, Deir Abu Mash’al, and Medea. 18 Palestinians, including a 12-year-old, were arrested during late-night raids in and around Bethlehem, Hebron, Nablus, and Ramallah. In Gaza, Paltel said telecommunications were cut off for the fifth time since 10/7. Israeli forces bombed Khan Yunis, Rafah, Nuseirat refugee camp, Jabalia refugee camp, and Gaza City, killing at least 179 people and injuring 303 others. Israeli forces also raided the Kamal Adwan Hospital in Beit Lahiya, obstructing patients’ care leading to the death of 2. An Israeli soldier was killed in combat. In Lebanon, Israeli forces attacked Awidah, Azziyah, and Khiam. More than 18,884 Palestinians had been killed by Israeli forces in Gaza, including at least 7,729 children and 5,153 women, and around 50,897 had been injured since 10/7. At least 8,000 people were missing in rubble, including 1,700 children. 280 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces and settlers in the West Bank and East Jerusalem since 10/7, including 72 children. More than 3,387 people have been injured. Israel reported that 1,200 Israelis and foreign nationals have been killed and 5,400 have been injured since 10/7. 116 Israeli soldiers have been killed and 648 injured in Gaza since the ground invasion began on 10/27. Over 1.93 million Palestinians, nearly 85% of the population of Gaza, have been displaced since 10/7. There has been a complete electricity blackout in Gaza since 10/12 due to the Israeli blockade. As of 12/3, at least 52,000 housing units had been destroyed and 253,000 had been damaged in Israeli airstrikes since 10/7, constituting 60% of all housing units. 100 trucks carrying aid entered Gaza via the Rafah crossing. Israel dropped leaflets in Gaza offering $400,000 for information that would lead to the capture or killing of Hamas leader in Gaza Yahya Sinwar. The leaflets also offered $300,000 for information on Sinwar’s brother Mohammed Sinwar, $200,000 for Rafa’a Salameh, and $100,000 for Mohammed Deif. (HA 12/14)

The New York Times reported that Israeli forces bulldozed parts of 6 cemeteries in Gaza during the ground invasion. (NYT 12/14)

PA prime minister Mohammed Shtayyeh told AP that it was time for the U.S. to shift its policy from “carrots to Israel to non-carrots,” saying the U.S. must introduce specific measures for a 2-state solution, not only talk about it. (AP, AP, REU 12/14)

U.S. national security advisor Jake Sullivan met with Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu and members of the Israeli war cabinet. U.S. and Israeli officials told Axios that Sullivan said to Netanyahu that the current intensity of Israel’s attacks on Gaza needs to dissipate within weeks. Netanyahu told Sullivan that Israel will continue its war “until absolute victory.” Sullivan also reiterated that a “revamped and revitalized” PA should govern both the West Bank and Gaza. Israeli forces shot 1 Palestinian man near a military post in Huwwara; the unarmed man who was collecting bottles died of his wounds on 7/30. Israeli forces also punitively demolished the homes of 2 Palestinian prisoners in Qarawat Bani Hassan, displacing 18; 4 Palestinians were injured with baton rounds while protesting the demolition. Members of slain Palestinian American journalist Shireen Abu Akleh’s family met with U.S. secretary of state Antony Blinken at the White House. The family said that they demanded a U.S.-led investigation into the Israeli killing of Abu Akleh and that they want to speak to U.S. president Joe Biden about the lack of accountably for the killing. Off the coast of the Gaza Strip nr. al-Waha, Israeli naval forces open fire on Palestinian fishing boats, causing no injuries or damage. In the West Bank, Israeli soldiers at a checkpoint nr. Bethlehem detain a Palestinian man and woman, saying that the woman was planning to attack soldiers at a nearby checkpoint. The IDF conducts arrest raids and house searches in and around Jenin, Hebron, Nablus, Tulkarm, and Ramallah. Two Palestinians are arrested by IDF troops at checkpoints in c. Hebron and a village nr. Ramallah. The IDF also patrols in 1 village each nr. Salfit and Jericho. Israeli settlers level land around the Ahiya outpost nr. Nablus, clearing the area for expansion of the outpost. In the Gaza Strip, Israeli forces shoot and wound a Palestinian nr. Dayr al-Balah close to the border fence after an explosion targets an Israeli military jeep, causing no injuries. Separately, Israeli forces open fire on farmland nr. Khan Yunis, causing no injuries, and in another incident, Israeli forces conduct a limited incursion nr. Bayt Hanun and search the area adjacent to the border fence before withdrawing. In the West Bank, the IDF conducts house searches and arrest raids in 2 villages nr. Hebron, and 1 village each nr. In the West Bank, the IDF opens fire on Palestinians who threw stones at a routine patrol in al-Khadir village nr. Bethlehem, wounding an 11-year-old with a rubber-coated metal bullet. The IDF conducts house searches and arrest raids in 1 village nr. Hebron at night; patrols in 1 village each nr. Jenin, Qalqilya and Tulkarm in the morning, in 2 villages nr. Qalqilya, 2 villages nr. Tulkarm, and in 1 village nr. Hebron in the afternoon, and in 1 village nr. Hebron, and Tulkarm and 1 village nearby at night. In East Jerusalem, Israeli security forces clash with Palestinians in the Abu Dis and Eizariya neighborhoods while conducting arrest raids, detaining 29. Meanwhile, in Israel, security forces demolish 11 structures and tents in Attir and 3 homes in Beer al-Mashash, 2 Bedouin villages in the Negev. Israel’s Housing Ministry releases a tender for the construction of 300 new homes in Ramot, a settlement in East Jerusalem, and also confirms a decision to sell 797 housing units in Moradot Gilo, another East Jerusalem settlement. A U.S. State Dept. spokesperson describes the move as “counterproductive,” while Palestinian chief negotiator Saeb Erakat says that the announcement sabotages U.S. Secy. of State John Kerry’s efforts to restart peace talks. Syrian pres. Bashar al-Asad says during an interview with Al-Manar TV that Russia is still committed to supplying his country with S-300 air defense missiles. Meanwhile, the UN Security Council agrees to add Jabhat al-Nusra, an al-Qa‘ida-linked rebel group operating in Syria, to a UN sanctions blacklist that imposes an assets freeze, travel ban, and arms embargo on the associated individuals and entities. Thousands of Palestinians hold Nakba Day rallies in cities across the West Bank; the IDF violently disperses protesters in al-Khader, causing no serious injuries. Jewish settlers uproot around 150 trees south of Nablus and also set fire to Palestinian agricultural lands in Bayt Furik village nr. Nablus. There is also a ‘‘price tag’’ attack in in Umm al-Qutuf village in Wadi Ara, a Palestinian village inside the Green Line, in which suspected Jewish extremists vandalize a mosque and 3 vehicles. Fatah and Hamas representatives hold reconciliation talks in Cairo. Hamas official Moussa Abu Marzouq says the sides have pledged to complete formation of a long-anticipated unity government within 3 months (see QU 168 for details). (JP, MNA 5/14)

Egypt’s upper house holds a special session to discuss recent clashes (5/7) in al-Aqsa Mosque and demands the immediate expulsion of Israeli ambassador Ya’akov Amitai in protest, but the government takes no immediate action. (ToI 5/14)

The IDF withdraws fr. Palestinian areas of Hebron, vandalizing several homes, cars before leaving. The National Union and Yisrael Beitunia bloc (led by Tourism M Rehavam Ze'evi, Infrastructure M Avigdor Lieberman) quits the governing coalition in protest, leaving Sharon with control of 76 of the Knesset's 120 seats. As troops withdraw, Jewish settlers attempt to storm the vacated Palestinian neighborhoods, also vandalize several homes and shops, but are halted by soldiers, who arrest 21 (all released later in the day).
