In an off-the-record briefing, a U.S. official says that Pres. Clinton is prepared to reconvene the Camp David summit talks, but only if he is assured that Israel, the PA are ready to settle all outstanding issues, including Jerusalem. The official also says "the Egyptians have made it clear to us that they are prepared to be helpful" in persuading Arafat to compromise. (NYT 8/14)
