In the West Bank, Israeli settlers set fire to 6 Palestinian-owned vehicles and threw stones at an ambulance in Majdal Bani Fadil. Israeli settlers also threw stones and blocked traffic near Ramallah, al-Bireh, Huwwara, Jit, Dayr Balut, Tubas, Burin, and Jericho. Elsewhere, Israeli settlers vandalized 3 commercial structures in Ein al-Beida and Bardala. An Israeli settlement security guard shot and killed 1 Palestinian man who allegedly attempted to enter the Kedumim settlement armed with a gun. Israeli forces shot and injured 1 Palestinian during a raid in al-Eizariya. Israeli forces also shot and injured 1 Palestinian minor during a raid in Aida refugee camp. In East Jerusalem, Israeli forces shot and severely injured a 13-year-old Palestinian boy who allegedly shot and injured 2 Israeli settlers near Silwan. In Tel Aviv, some 60,000 Israelis protested against the Israeli government for the fourth Saturday in a row. In what the Israeli security cabinet called a response to the 1/27 attack on Israeli settlers in East Jerusalem, the cabinet decided to fast track legislation that will shorten the process for Israeli civilians to obtain gun licenses, revoke the social security benefits of the relatives of accused Palestinian assailants and see the relatives deported, demolish the homes of accused Palestinian assailants, and “strengthen” settlements in the West Bank. In the West Bank, 1 Israeli settler was stabbed and injured in a store in Deir Qaddis. Israeli settlers stole a herd of sheep and assaulted 1 Palestinian minor near al-‘Awja. Israeli settlers also assaulted Palestinian shepherds in Beit Furik. Israeli forces shot and killed 1 Palestinian minor during a late-night raid in Dheisheh refugee camp. Israeli forces also arrested 1 Italian national residing in Dheisheh refugee camp during a late-night raid; the woman was deported to Italy on 1/17. Elsewhere, Israeli forces prevented Palestinian farmers from working their land in Burin. More than 90 nations signed a statement expressing “deep concern” over Israel’s punitive measures against the PA over the UN request to have the International Court of Justice give an opinion on the legality of Israel’s occupation of Palestine. PA UN envoy Riyad Mansour welcomed the statement, noting that several of the signatories abstained or voted against the UN General Assembly resolution that prompted Israel’s punitive measures. In the West Bank, Israeli settlers razed 60 dunams (14.8 acres) of land east of al-‘Awja. Israeli forces shot and killed 1 Palestinian during a late-night raid in Ya’bad; 1 Palestinian was arrested during the raid. Israeli forces also shot and injured 1 Palestinian during a raid in Abud; others suffered tear-gas related injuries. Elsewhere, Israeli forces violently dispersed Palestinian protesters in Nabi Salih, leading to tear-gas related injuries. Israeli forces also violently dispersed Palestinian protesters in al-Arroub refugee camp, causing tear-gas related injuries. Meanwhile, Israeli forces demolished 10 agricultural structures in Aqraba. The UNGA approved a resolution calling for an official commemorative event to mark the 75th anniversary of the Nakba. 90 countries voted in favor, 30 against and 47 abstained. Among the no votes were most EU countries, the U.S., Canada, Australia, the UK, and Brazil. (HA, MEE 12/1)

In the West Bank, armed Israeli settlers marched through Hebron, shouting racist slogans at Palestinians. Israeli forces shot and killed 1 Palestinian riding a motorcycle by the separation wall near al-Eizariya; during the subsequent funeral procession, Israeli forces shot and injured 1 minor with a baton round. The killing marked the 100th Palestinian killed by Israeli soldiers and settlers in the West Bank and East Jerusalem in 2022. Israeli forces fired tear gas at activists protesting in solidarity with Palestinians in al-Twana and Khalat al-Dabaa in the Masafer Yatta area, causing tear-gas related injuries. Elsewhere, Israeli forces shot and injured 1 Palestinian with a baton round during a late-night raid in Jalazun refugee camp. 7 Palestinians were arrested during late-night raids in Hebron and Aida refugee camp. In the West Bank, Israeli forces violently dispersed Palestinian protesters in Nabi Salih, killing 1 Palestinian using live ammunition. Israeli forces also raided al-Quds University campus in Abu Dis, firing tear gas; 17 Palestinians suffered from tear gas inhalation. Elsewhere, Israeli forces demolished a car repair shop in al-Lubban al-Sharqiya and 2 agricultural structures in Khirbat al-Fakhit. The PA foreign ministry summoned Hungarian representative to Palestine Csaba Rada in order to complain that the Hungarian city of Hévíz has made a twinning agreement with the Samaria Regional Settlement Council, representing several settlements in the West Bank. (WAFA 2/15; MEMO 2/16)

The police in the Philippines said it had uncovered an attempt by Hamas to recruit local militants to commit attacks on Israelis in the country. The police claimed that a man named Fares al-Shikli had offered financial support in exchange for attacks on Israelis. (HA, JP 2/15; ALM 2/19)

According to Israel’s Channel 12 and the news outlet Globes, Morocco had signed an order to buy the Israel Aerospace Industries’ Barak MX Integrated Air and Defense system for more than $500 million. (HA 2/15)

In the West Bank, Israeli forces shot and killed 1 Palestinian man and injured 3 others during a late-night raid in Nablus, Israel claimed that explosives had been thrown at the Israeli forces as they raided the city; no Israeli was injured during the raid; the PA condemned the killing. 23 Palestinians were arrested, including 1 at the Allenby Bridge and 22 during raids in Beitunia, Bayt Liqya, Ramallah, al-Bireh, al-Eizariya, Hebron, al-Arroub refugee camp, Qarawat Bani Hassan, Bidya, Ras al-Ain, Jamma‘in, and Qalqilya. In East Jerusalem, the Israeli municipality began razing land seized from 4 Palestinian families in Sheikh Jarrah, which served as a parking lot and car wash in preparation for construction of a settler park. 5 Palestinians were arrested during late-night raids in the Old City. Off the coast of Gaza, Israeli naval forces opened fire at Palestinian fishermen within 3 nautical miles west of Beit Lahiya; no injuries were reported. In Gaza, Israeli forces made incursions and leveled land in the northern part of Gaza near the Gaza fence. Haaretz reported that the Custodian General’s unit in the Israeli Justice Ministry is exploring plans to build 5 Jewish settlements in East Jerusalem: 1 in Sheikh Jarrah, 1 near the Damascus Gate, 1 in Sur Baher, 1 in Bayt Hanina, and 2 in Bayt Safafa. The Custodian General manages private property claimed by Israel to have unknown owners. Most of the properties managed by the Custodian General are in East Jerusalem. (HA, MEE 12/13)

The patriarchs and heads of local churches of Jerusalem released a statement warning that Israeli government is failing to protect the Christian community in Jerusalem from physical attacks by “radical groups” and groups trying to displace the Christian community from Jerusalem by acquiring “strategic property . . . using underhanded dealings and intimidation tactics to evict residents from their homes.” (TOI 12/19; BBC, HA, MEE 12/21)

The 2 were said to have discussed Iran and building on the 2 countries’ normalization agreement. Israel’s public security minister Omer Bar-Lev told Undersecretary Victoria Nuland that he views settler violence “severely” and is taking action against it. Public Security Minister Bar-Lev’s comments drew the ire of Israeli politicians in his coalition and further right, who said that there is no issue with Israeli settler violence toward Palestinians. In the West Bank, Israeli settlers attacked Palestinian herders near Khirbet Makhul, injuring 1 minor. Israeli forces seized 1 water tank in al-Khader. 9 Palestinians were arrested during late-night raids in al-Eizariya, Hebron, and Ni‘lin. In East Jerusalem, 4 Palestinian families in Sheikh Jarrah was notified that Israel will seize 4.5 dunams (1.1 acres) of their land. 3 Palestinians were arrested in Isawiya and the Old City.
