Hamas political bureau deputy chairperson Khalil al-Hayya says in a statement that the U.S. government “must abandon their blind bias towards the Zionist occupation and exert real pressure on [Israeli prime minister Benjamin] Netanyahu and his government” if it is serious about wanting to reach a ceasefire deal. Al-Hayya reiterates that Hamas has accepted the original U.S. presented and backed ceasefire deal from May. German foreign minister Annalena Baerbock meets with Jordanian foreign minister Ayman Safadi in Amman. Baerbock announces a $55 million increase humanitarian aid to Gaza. Baerbock says Germany rejects Israeli attempts to change the status quo at the holy sites in Jerusalem, saying she expects Israel to stop National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir’s “irresponsible” provocation. Baerbock also says “Israel is the occupying power in the West Bank and is obliged under the Geneva Convention to uphold law and order rather than jeopardize it. This explicitly includes protecting the population from attacks by violent, radical settlers.” Safadi says that if Israel tries to displace Palestinians to Jordan it would be a “declaration of war,” that “Israeli actions on the ground have killed all opportunities for achieving a just peace,” and accuses Prime Minister Netanyahu of obstructing ceasefire negotiations by changing his positions and withdrawing from commitments.
