In the West Bank, Israeli settlers set fire to a Palestinian-owned car and threw stones at Palestinian vehicles near ‘Urif. Israeli settlers also attacked Israeli forces that were pursuing the suspected arsonist, blocking the soldiers’ vehicle and pushing the soldiers. Elsewhere, Israeli settlers threw stones at 2 schools and homes in Burqa. Israeli settlers also the slashed tires of Palestinian vehicles in Hebron. Israeli forces uprooted olive trees from a settlement farm after the Israeli Supreme Court ruled that the farmland belongs to Palestinian families. Some 40 Israeli settlers were detained during the razing of the land. Israeli forces also issued a demolition notice and a stop-work order for 2 homes in Birin. Elsewhere, Israeli forces demolished 1 house in Shaab al-Butum and uprooted 100 olive and almond trees in Khillet al-Dabe in the Masafer Yatta area. 20 Palestinians were arrested during late-night raids in Husan, Bethlehem, Kafr Malik, Beit Sira, Tell, Nablus, Tulkarm, and Bidya. The Knesset passed a law that allows the interior ministry to revoke the residency and citizenship of Palestinians in Israel who are convicted of terrorism and receive funding from the PA. Reuters reported that the UN Security Council was considering a draft resolution written by the UAE in coordination with the PA to have the body condemn Israel’s settlement announcement from 2/12. An investigation by dozens of media outlets worldwide led by Forbidden Stories revealed that an Israeli company has been hired to meddle in election campaigns throughout the world. According to the company’s senior staff, the company has successfully meddled in 27 of 33 presidential-level campaigns it has been involved in, including in the 2022 Kenyan elections and the Nigerian elections in 2015. In the West Bank, Israeli forces shot and injured 2 Palestinians with live ammunition during a late-night raid in Balata refugee camp. 1 of the injured, a minor, would later succumb to his wounds on 2/20. 7 Palestinians were arrested during late-night raids in Beit Iksa, Hebron, Jenin, and Ramallah. PA president Mahmoud Abbas phoned Syrian president Basher al-Assad to offer his condolences for the victims of the 2/6 earthquake that hit Syria and Turkey. (WAFA 2/8)

Barcelona mayor Ada Colau informed the Israeli government that the city is suspending relations with Israel until Israel ends the “systematic violation of the people of Palestine’s human rights.” The decision included suspending the city’s twinning agreement with Tel Aviv. In the West Bank, Israeli settlers assaulted 1 Palestinian shepherd in Arab al-Malihat. Israeli forces shot and killed 1 Palestinian minor during a late-night raid in Nablus. 27 Palestinians were arrested during late-night raids in Bruqin, ‘Askar refugee camp, Qalqilya, and Qalandia refugee camp. Axios reported that U.S. secretary of state Antony Blinken asked PA president Mahmoud Abbas to pause the PA’s efforts for justice at the UN and other international organizations and to resume security coordination with Israel in exchange for Israel pausing settlement expansion, demolitions of Palestinian homes, and evictions. Israel was reportedly ready to reduce but not halt its activities, while the PA reportedly was ready to pause its efforts. (AX 2/7)

In response to reporting that Secretary Blinken had asked the Israeli government to freeze settlement expansion, Israeli finance minister Bezalel Smotrich said that Israel does not intend to stop its expansion of settlements. (REU 2/7; MEMO 2/8)

In the West Bank, 1 Israeli settler pepper sprayed 1 Palestinian minor in Huwwara. Israeli forces demolished 1 residential structure and 1 agricultural structure in Nabi Musa, demolished 15 commercial structures in Wadi al-Qelt, and demolished 2 homes in Duma. During the demolitions in Duma, Israeli forces shot and injured 1 journalist with a baton round and injured others with tear gas. Israeli forces also notified Palestinians in Hizma and Jaba’ that Israel will seize 500 dunams (123 acres) of land between the 2 villages to expand a settler-only road. 28 Palestinians were arrested during late-night raids in al-Mughayyir, Kafr Malik, al-Bireh, Nur Shams refugee camp, Nablus, Jericho, Aqabat Jaber refugee camp, and Hebron. In Gaza, 12 rockets were launched at Israel, causing no damage. Israeli forces subsequently launched airstrikes at Gaza, causing damage. Israeli foreign minister Eli Cohen met with Abdel Fatah Al Burhan, president of Sudan's Transitional Sovereign Council, in Khartoum. Prime Minister Netanyahu met with French president Emmanuel Macron in Paris. According to the French daily Le Monde, Macron told Netanyahu that “France will assume that Israel has disconnected from the two countries’ democratic perception,” if Netanyahu moves ahead with his planned changes to the Israeli judicial system.
