In the West Bank, Israeli forces violently dispersed sit-in protests in Bethlehem and Tulkarm against the shooting of a photojournalist who lost his eye on 11/16; in Tulkarm, 1 Palestinian was hit by a tear gas canister to the head, 2 others were injured by live ammunition, and others suffered tear-gas related injuries. Israeli forces shot and injured a Palestinian man at a checkpoint near Tulkarm. Meanwhile, Israeli forces raided Jalazun refugee camp, leading to clashes with Palestinian students leaving an UNRWA school. 2 students were transferred to a hospital with life-threatening injuries after being hit by live ammunition. Elsewhere, Israeli forces delivered demolition notices for 1 house east of Yatta. 4 Palestinians were arrested in Silwad and al-‘Arub refugee camp. In East Jerusalem, clashes erupted between Israeli forces and Palestinians in Silwan; no injuries were reported. Israeli forces also violently dispersed a sit-in protest by Hebrew University against Israeli airstrikes on Gaza; 3 people were arrested. 1 Palestinian was killed and 3 others arrested after a car chase; Israeli police alleged that the 4 had stolen cars and were heading for Bethlehem. Israeli police first said that the man they killed was shot while in the car; later the Israeli ministry of justice said he was shot after exiting the car. In the West Bank, Israeli forces violently dispersed a protest in Ramallah against Israeli airstrikes in Gaza; 1 Palestinian was hit by live ammunition, another was injured by a rubber-coated bullet to his head, others suffered tear-gas related injuries. In the West Bank, Israeli forces violently dispersed Palestinians protesting in Surif, firing tear gas and rubber-coated bullets; 1 Palestinian photojournalist lost his eye when he was hit by a rubber-coated bullet. In Gaza, rockets were exchanged for the 4th day in a row despite a ceasefire agreement on 11/14; however, no injuries were reported. Israeli authorities said that they would probe the death of a family of 8, including 5 children, that was killed during the Israeli airstrikes on Gaza on 11/14. (REU 11/15)

At the UN General Assembly, 170 countries voted to renew UNRWA’s mandate for another 3 years. The U.S. and Israel voted against, while Canada, Cameroon, Guatemala, Vanuatu, Micronesia, the Marshall Islands and Nauru abstained. (HA 11/15; WAFA 11/17)

In the West Bank, Israeli settlers vandalized 25 vehicles and wrote racist graffiti on Palestinian-owned buildings, including a mosque, in Qarawat Bani Hassan. Israeli forces ordered Palestinians southeast of Tubas to evacuate 28 dunams of land, uproot olive trees, and demolish a structure. Israeli forces also violently dispersed a protest in Bethlehem, leading to 30 Palestinians suffering tear-gas related injuries. 8 Palestinians were arrested during late-night raids in and around Ramallah, Bethlehem, and Hebron. In East Jerusalem, 1 Palestinian was arrested in Issawiyya; he was badly beaten by Israeli police. Some 200 Israeli settlers toured the Haram al-Sharif compound. In Gaza, 9 Palestinians were killed in Israeli airstrikes, including a family of 8 in Dayr al-Balah with 5 children; 12 others were wounded. This brings the comprehensive death toll of the Israeli attack on Gaza starting on 11/12 to 33, with at least 111 Palestinians reported injured. Israel later admitted that killing the family in Dayr al-Balah was a mistake and that they believed the house was empty. The Faroe Islands’ foreign minister Jenis av Rana said that the country wants to open a diplomatic representation to Israel in Jerusalem against the wishes of the Danish government. Earlier in the year, the Danish prime minister Mette Frederiksen said that Greenland and the Faroe Islands would have more independence in foreign policy during her government. (Politiken 11/14)

In the West Bank, Israeli forces violently suppressed a demonstration against Israeli aggression in Gaza. In Bethlehem, 1 Italian tourist was injured when he was hit by a tear gas canister; others suffered tear-gas related injuries. Elsewhere, in al-‘Arub refugee camp, a Palestinian-owned house caught on fire after an Israeli tear gas grenade landed in it during a raid. Israeli forces also razed some 400 (99 acres) dunams of land in Bayt Umar and demolished a house under construction in Atuf. 7 Palestinians were arrested during late-night raids in and around Silwad, Jenin, Hebron, and Bethlehem. In East Jerusalem, a Palestinian family demolished 4 animal barns to avoid exorbitant demolition fees. 4 Palestinians were arrested during raids in Kafr ‘Aqab and Issawiyya. In Gaza, for the 2d day in a row, Israel and Islamic Jihad in Palestine exchanged rockets; 16 people were killed in Gaza and at least 40 were injured, making the comprehensive death toll since 11/12 26, including several minors. No Israelis have been reported killed and 1 person was reported injured. Officials in Gaza said that at least 48 housing units had been damaged, some completely destroyed. In the West Bank, 1 Palestinian man was killed by Israeli forces using live ammunition during clashes as Palestinians commemorated the 15th anniversary of the death of Yasir Arafat in al-‘Arub refugee camp. A video showed that the man, unarmed, slowly approached the Israeli soldiers with 1 hand on a towel and the other in the air before being shot. UN special coordinator for Middle East peace Nickolay Mladenov called the video of the incident shocking, calling for a probe. During other commemoration events in al-Fawar refugee camp, 1 Palestinian was injured by Israeli forces using live ammunition; in Dura, 1 Palestinian was injured by live ammunition; in Bayt Umar, several Palestinians suffered tear-gas related injuries. Israeli forces also demolished 2 Palestinian-owned structures in al-Muntar. 7 Palestinians were arrested during raids in and around Halhul, Bethlehem, Jenin, and Bayt Surik. In the West Bank, Israeli settlers damaged a total of 120 olive trees and stole olive-picking equipment during 3 separate incidents in al-Sawiya and Yasuf village. Israeli settlers attacked Israeli forces as they entered the Yitzhar settlement to arrest 1 settler; 3 Israeli officers were injured. Israeli forces prevented Palestinians from harvesting olives in Sabastiyya. 3 Palestinians were arrested during raids in and around Hebron and Bethlehem. In East Jerusalem, Israeli forces injured 16 Palestinians during a late-night raid in Issawiyya using rubber-coated bullets and tear gas. 2 Palestinians were arrested during raids. Off the coast of Gaza, Israeli naval forces opened fire on Palestinian fishermen off the shore of Jabalia and Bayt Lahiya; no injuries were reported. In the West Bank, Israeli settlers vandalized 6 olive trees west of Ramallah. Elsewhere, Israeli settlers vandalized 22 Palestinian-owned vehicles and wrote racist graffiti in Hebrew on walls in Hizma. Israeli forces violently dispersed the weekly anti-settlement protest in Kafr Qaddum, causing tear-gas related injuries. 8 Palestinians were arrested during late-night raids in and around Halhul, Bayt Furik, Jalazun refugee camp, and Ramallah. In Gaza, 104 Palestinians were injured during the 82d weekly Great March of Return protest, including 41 by live ammunition. In the West Bank, Israeli forces razed some 400 dunams (99 acres) of farmland land in Bayt Umar in preparation for paving a settler-only road. Israeli forces also fired tear gas near a school in Hebron, causing tear-gas related injuries among teachers and students. Elsewhere, Israeli forces shot and injured a Palestinian by the separation wall near Jenin as he was trying to enter Israel. Israeli forces also arrested 4 Palestinians during raids in and around Hebron, Bethlehem, and Tulkarm. In East Jerusalem, PA Jerusalem affairs minister Fadi Hidmi was arrested for the 3d time this year during a late-night raid in Silwan. Israeli forces also arrested 3 other Palestinians during raids in the Old City. In Gaza, Israeli forces opened fire on Palestinian agricultural lands east of Khuza‘a; no injuries were reported. In Israel, leaders of Palestinian citizens of Israel began a 3-day hunger strike to protest Israeli authorities’ inaction against violence in the communities. In the West Bank, Israeli forces arrested 2 Palestinians, including a minor during a late-night raid in Bayt Liqya, and a former prisoner during a raid in Jalazun refugee camp. Israeli forces clashed with Palestinians during a raid in al-Fawar refugee camp; 1 Palestinian was injured by live ammunition, others suffered tear-gas related injuries. In Gaza, 144 Palestinians were injured during the 81st weekly Great March of Return protest, including 73 by live ammunition and at least 31 by rubber-coated bullets; others suffered tear-gas related injuries. Later, some 10 rockets were fired at Israel; Israel bombed several places in Gaza, killing 1 Palestinian and wounding 3 others. Damage was reported in Gaza and Israel, where rocket shrapnel hit a house. Separately, a bullet fired from the Israeli side of the Gaza fence hit a window of a Palestinian house in Khuza‘a. In the West Bank, Israeli settlers chop down 25 Palestinian-owned olive trees in Nahalin. Israeli forces violently dispersed an anti-settlement protest in al-Humma, causing 5 tear-gas related injuries. In East Jerusalem, Israeli forces violently dispersed a protest in support of hunger-striking prisoners in Israeli jails, causing tear-gas related injuries and arresting 2 of the protesters. In Gaza, 1 Palestinian was injured by Israeli forces while driving a sanitation vehicle east of Khan Yunis. Separately, Israeli forces opened fire on Palestinian farmers; no injuries were reported. A Palestinian working for Amnesty International was briefly detained at the Allenby Bridge and told he was not allowed to leave the West Bank. The Secretary-General of Amnesty International, Kumi Naidoo, called it “a sinister move imposed as punishment for work defending human rights of Palestinians.” (Amnesty 10/31; HA 11/1; AJ 11/2)

In the West Bank, Israeli settlers vandalized Palestinian-owned vehicles and defaced buildings with racist graffiti in Yatma. Israeli forces also fired sound bombs and tear gas during a raid on a wedding ceremony east of Hebron. 3 Palestinians were arrested, including 1 during a late-night raid in Tulkarm, and 2 were arrested during clashes in Hebron. Israeli forces also assaulted 1 Palestinian photojournalist covering a raid in Hebron. In East Jerusalem, Israeli forces arrested a Palestinian minor at a mosque in Issawiyya. In Gaza, Israeli forces opened fire on a Palestinian sanitation truck, causing damage. In Gaza, 95 Palestinians were injured during the 80th weekly Great March of Return protest, including 36 by live ammunition; others were injured by rubber-coated bullets and tear gas. Malaysia announced that the country would open an embassy to Palestine in Jordan. Malaysian prime minister Mahathir Mohamad said, “[w]e know that Israel will not allow Malaysia to open an embassy in the Occupied Territory. As such, we will open the embassy in Jordan.” (WAFA 10/25)

In the West Bank, Israeli forces shot and injured a Palestinian man at a checkpoint near Jenin; the man was taken to the hospital with moderate injuries. Israeli forces also punitively demolished, for a second time, the family home in al-Am‘ari refugee camp of a Palestinian accused of killing an Israeli soldier in May 2018. During the demolition, Israeli forces clashed with protesting Palestinians, leading to tear-gas related injuries. Israeli forces also demolished several structures erected by Israeli settlers outside the Yitzhar settlement; the demolition happened after settlers threw stones at Israeli forces on 10/21. Israeli settlers attacked Palestinians harvesting olives in Yasuf and stole the harvest when the Palestinians fled their fields. Israeli forces also forced Palestinian farmers to leave their olive fields while harvesting olives in Luban al-Sharqiyya. 7 Palestinians were arrested, including 3 during the punitive demolition, and 4 during raids in and around Nablus and Jenin. In the West Bank, Israeli settlers attacked Palestinian farmers harvesting olives in Burin and al-Jaba‘; during the attack in Burin, 3 Palestinians were wounded and the settlers stole harvested olives. Israeli forces raided Bayt Umar, injuring Palestinians with stun grenades and tear gas. In Gaza, 1 Palestinian farmer was hospitalized after being shot by Israeli forces while working his land east of Jabalia refugee camp. In the West Bank, 1 Palestinian man was shot to death after allegedly running toward a checkpoint with a knife near Tulkarm. Israeli forces also violently dispersed Palestinian protesters in Kafr Qaddum during their weekly anti-settlement protest, causing several tear-gas related injuries; 1 Spanish activist was arrested. Elsewhere, Israeli forces closed the Ramallah-Nablus road for hours to allow Israeli settlers to use the road for a marathon. Israeli settlers prevented Palestinians from harvesting olives near Burqa. 2 Palestinians were arrested in Jenin during late-night raids, 1 other Palestinian was summoned for interrogation. In East Jerusalem, Israeli forces stormed a wedding party in Sur Bahir, resulting in clashes with some of the attendees. In the West Bank, al-Ibrahimi Mosque was closed to Muslim worshipers due to Israeli restrictions during the Jewish Sukkot holidays. Israeli settlers with military escort toured Solomon’s Pool south of Bethlehem, closing the area for Palestinians. Elsewhere, near Nablus, Israeli settlers and military escort toured Joseph’s Tomb, leading to confrontations with Palestinians; 51 Palestinians were injured including 3 by live ammunition, 14 by rubber-coated bullets and others suffered tear-gas related injuries. 1 Palestinian was shot after allegedly ramming his car into an undercover Israeli officer’s car in al-Am‘ari refugee camp. Israeli forces violently dispersed a protest in Turmus ‘Ayya, injuring 2 with rubber-coated bullets and others with tear gas. Israeli forces shot and injured 2 Palestinians trying to enter Israel for work near Jenin. 9 Palestinians were arrested, including 8 during raids in al-Am‘ari refugee camp, Jaba, ‘Azun, Anabta, and Bayt Awa; the Palestinian accused of ramming his car into the undercover Israeli officer’s car was also arrested. In East Jerusalem, hundreds of Israeli settlers attacked Palestinians and Palestinian-owned property in Issawiyya; Israeli forces arrested 7 of the perpetrators. Israeli forces raided the headquarters of the Health Work Committees in Ramallah, damaging furniture. Israeli forces also raided the family house of an alleged Palestinian attacker and took measurements for a punitive demolition of the house. 9 Palestinians were arrested, including 5 during late-night raids in and around Ramallah, Hebron, and Nablus; 2 at a checkpoint in Bayt Furik; and 2 during house raids in Qalqilya. In East Jerusalem, 1 Palestinian was detained at the Haram al-Sharif compound; he was banned from entering the compound for 15 days. Elsewhere, 1 Palestinian was injured by Israeli forces using rubber-coated bullets as he was trying to enter Israel near Tulkarm. Israeli forces also punitively demolished the house of an alleged attacker in al-Am‘ari refugee camp. In the West Bank, several Palestinians suffered tear-gas related injuries during clashes with Israeli forces at a checkpoint in al-Bireh near Ramallah. 2 Palestinians were arrested at a flying checkpoint south of Bethlehem. In East Jerusalem, Israeli forces violently dispersed a protest in front of the Hadassah Hospital in solidarity with a Palestinian prisoner who had been tortured by Israeli interrogators. 2 protesters were arrested and there were reports of beatings. Off the coast of Gaza, Israeli naval forces opened fire on Palestinian fishermen 3 nautical miles off the shore of Bayt Lahiya. In Israel, 1 Palestinian citizen of Israel was killed and 2 others injured in Maj al-Krum. Elsewhere, in Kafr Kana, around 2,000 Palestinians marched to mark the anniversary of 13 Palestinians killed by Israeli forces in 2000. Al-Ibrahimi Mosque was closed by Israeli authorities for Palestinians from midday. 18 Palestinians were arrested, including 17 during late-night raids in and around Tulkarm, Nablus, Jenin, and Bethlehem, and 1 Palestinian was arrested at a checkpoint near Salfit. In the West Bank, Israeli forces demolished a Palestinian-owned house in Dura. 6 Palestinians were arrested during late-night raids in and around Birzeit, Nablus, Hebron, Tubas, and Jericho. Israeli forces raided several neighborhoods in Ramallah, leading to clashes with Palestinians; tear-gas related injuries were reported. In East Jerusalem, Israeli forces arrested PA minister of Jerusalem affairs Fadi Hidmi during a house raid and delivered an arrest summons for PA governor of Jerusalem Adnan Ghaith and his son. Minister Hidmi and Governor Ghaith were arrested because they were going to an official event in East Jerusalem, which Israel does not allow PA officials to attend. Elsewhere, Israeli police raided a Palestinian-owned butcher shop and ordered it closed for 15 days for hiring a Palestinian resident of the West Bank. In East Jerusalem, Israeli forces demolished a Palestinian-owned barn in Silwan and a house under construction in al-Tur; during the latter demolition, 2 Palestinians were arrested and video shows family members who owned the property were assaulted by Israeli police. In the West Bank, Israeli forces violently dispersed a protest in al-Bireh against the treatment of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails; 8 injuries were reported. Elsewhere, in Ramallah, Palestinians suffered tear-gas related injuries during an Israeli military raid. Israeli forces also arrested 27 Palestinians during late-night raids in and around Ramallah, Bethlehem, Jenin, Salfit, Qalqilya, Hebron, Abu Dis, and Tulkarm. Israeli settlers with military escort raided an archeological site in Sabastiyya and Joseph’s Tomb in Balata. In East Jerusalem, the Israeli magistrate court ordered the eviction of a Palestinian family of 13 from their home in Silwan. The lawsuit was brought by the settler organizations Ateret Cohanim and Elad. 28 Palestinians were arrested during late-night raids in and around Issawiyya and Silwan. A court in Jerusalem upheld the Israeli Coordination of Government Activities in the Territories decision not to allow the majority of players and staff of the soccer team Khadamat Rafah travel permits to the West Bank for a match in the Palestinian soccer cup championship. The match was originally scheduled for 7/3, but the players and staff had not been able to obtain the permits to travel to the West Bank for the match for more than 2 months. In the West Bank, 6 Palestinians were injured by Israeli forces using live ammunition and rubber-coated bullets after clashes erupted during a military raid in ‘Azun. 15 Palestinians were arrested, including 8 during late-night raids in and around Hebron; 2 at checkpoints near Bethlehem and Bayt Furik; and 5 during a daytime raid in Bayt Umar. Israeli settlers with military escort entered a mosque in Halhul, leading to clashes with Palestinians; several Palestinians were injured by rubber-coated bullets and from tear gas inhalation. Israeli forces raided several buildings in Ramallah, including the Addameer office, and confiscated documents and computers. In the West Bank, students from Birzeit University protested Israel’s rejection of visa renewals for 7 Birzeit University professors. 1 professor at Birzeit University was released from Israeli custody after being detained for 16 days. Israeli forces critically injured 1 Palestinian child in al-Mazra‘a near Ramallah. In Abu Dis, 1 Palestinian was shot in the leg and admitted to a hospital in Ramallah. In Tubas, several Palestinians suffered from tear gas inhalation after clashes with Israeli forces. In ‘Ayn Bus near Nablus, Israeli settlers threw stones at Palestinian-owned homes and tried to set vehicles on fire; Israeli forces subsequently injured 2 Palestinians using rubber-coated bullets as they attempted to fend off the Israeli settlers. 1 Palestinian was arrested at a flying checkpoint near Nablus. In Gaza, 78 Palestinians were injured by Israeli forces during the 74th weekly Great March of Return protest, including 15 by live ammunition; 3 were hit by gas canisters; and 6 by rubber-coated bullets. In the West Bank, Israeli forces arrested 10 Palestinians during late-night raids in and around Hebron, Bethlehem, Nablus, and Ramallah. In Ramallah, Israeli forces also stormed an office of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine, seizing documents, and stormed several stores, seizing surveillance cameras. The raids in Ramallah led to confrontations with local residents; no injuries were reported. Elsewhere in the West Bank, Israeli forces uprooted 250 olive trees and destroyed 5 water wells near Tammun. In East Jerusalem, Israeli forces entered a mosque in Issawiyya and fired tear gas canisters inside, causing tear-gas related injuries. Israeli forces also arrested 1 Palestinian during a late-night raid in Kaft ‘Aqab. In Gaza, Israeli forces opened fire on Palestinian agricultural lands east of Khan Yunis; no injuries were reported. According to Israeli forces, machine gun fire in Israel activated the Iron Dome system which fired a rocket, ultimately landing in Israel. Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s Facebook page had an automated pop-up message, warning voters that “Arabs want to annihilate us all—women, children, and men,” and urged voters not to vote for a left-wing government “that relies on Arabs who want to destroy us all.” Joint List chairperson Ayman Odeh said that he had reached out to Facebook to end Netanyahu’s “racist and dangerous incitement against the Arab population.” (HA 9/11)
