The IDF also violently disperses Palestinian, Israeli, and international activists at Friday demonstrations against Israel’s occupation and recent attacks in the oPt in 4 villages nr. Ramallah (Bil‘in, Ni‘lin, Silwad, and Nabi Salih) as well as Kafr Qaddum nr. Qalqilya; 1 Palestinian is injured. Late at night, Israeli forces carry out the punitive demolition of 3 homes in Nablus and 2 nr. Ramallah belonging to Palestinians who committed recent attacks on Israelis. Israeli soldiers conduct a raid in a village nr. Jenin, arresting 1 Palestinian. Off Gaza’s n. coast, Israeli naval forces open fire on Palestinian fishing boats, causing no damage or injuries. In East Jerusalem, Israeli forces violently disperse Palestinians protesting in Jabal Mukabir; there are no serious injuries. They also assault and arrest a Palestinian child in Shaykh Jarrah. Ramallah (he will take credit for the attack in a video uploaded to Facebook hours later and turn himself into the Palestinian authorities). The Hebron area, in particular, sees much of the day’s violence. Israeli soldiers shoot and kill an elderly Palestinian woman as she drives her vehicle toward them in an alleged ramming attack; 2 Palestinian bystanders are injured when Israeli gunfire shatters the vehicle’s windows. IDF troops surround a mosque in c. Hebron, sparking clashes with Palestinians after they finish praying inside; 8 Palestinians are injured. Also in the city, a Palestinian shoots and injures an Israeli settler n. of Hebron, and another Palestinian shoots and injures 2 Israelis nr. al-Ibrahimi Mosque. The IDF also violently disperses Palestinians, Israelis, and international activists at Friday demonstrations against Israel’s occupation and recent violence in the oPt in 4 villages nr. Ramallah (Bil‘in, Ni‘lin, Nabi Salih, and Silwad) and 2 nr. Qalqilya (Kafr Qaddum and Jayyus); 3 Palestinians are injured. The IDF patrols in 1 village nr. Hebron and 2 nr. Shaykh Jarrah (the Palestinian succumbs to his injuries later in the day). An Israeli bystander is accidentally shot and injured during the incident. Hebron, Bethlehem, Ramallah, and in 4 locations along Gaza’s border; an 8-mo.-old Palestinian baby dies from tear gas inhalation nr. Bethlehem, 1 Palestinian is rammed with an IDF vehicle, and 63 are injured overall. Israeli forces also violently disperse Palestinian, Israeli, and international activists at Friday demonstrations against Israel’s occupation and recent violence in 4 villages nr. Ramallah (Bil‘in, Ni‘lin, Silwad, and Nabi Salih) and Kafr Qaddum nr. Qalqilya; there are no serious injuries. The IDF conducts a late-night raid nr. Ramallah, arresting 1 Palestinian; patrols in the Ramallah, Hebron, and Qalqilya areas, sparking clashes with stone-throwers in each (5 Palestinians are injured and 2 are arrested). Further patrols in 4 villages nr. Hebron and 2 nr. Qalqilya do not lead to clashes. Israeli forces return the bodies of 7 Palestinians killed by IDF troops in and around Hebron since 10/1. They also place concrete blocks and fences on a number of roads in c. Hebron and bar Palestinians who do not live in Hebron from entering the city, following the recent violence in the area. PA pres. Abbas submits files to the International Criminal Court (ICC) documenting recent Israeli violations of international law in the oPt, including the recent “extrajudicial killings” and home demolitions. Stabbing attacks continue in the West Bank today. Private Israeli settlement security guards shoot and kill a Palestinian youth at a checkpoint nr. Jenin after he allegedly stabs and injures an Israeli soldier. IDF troopsshoot and injure a Palestinian youth nr. Nablus overnight, later alleging that he was trying to sneak into a settlement with a knife. After the incident, Israeli forces set up mobile checkpoints at the entrances to 2 nearby villages. A Palestinian driver rams an Israeli border security officer at a checkpoint nr. Ramallah, causing light injuries. Later, IDF troops shoot and injure another Palestinian driver outside the Gush Etzion settlement bloc nr. Hebron after he rams a group of Israeli soldiers, injuring 5. Israeli forces shoot and kill a Jewish Israeli nr. the Old City of East Jerusalem late at night after he attempts to take a soldier’s weapon and they mistake him for a “Palestinian attacker,” according to the police. The Israeli crackdown continues as well. Israeli forces obstruct the entrance to Ni‘lin village nr. Ramallah with cement blocks for the 2d day in a row; assault and detain a Palestinian youth at a checkpoint nr. Bethlehem. Throughout the day, IDF troops clash with and violently disperse Palestinian protesters along the border with Gaza, in c. Hebron, nr. Ramallah, and 1 neighborhood in East Jerusalem; 1 Palestinian dies of tear gas inhalation and 4 are injured. The IDF conducts late-night raids and house searches across East Jerusalem and the West Bank, arresting 58 Palestinians. Israeli settlers throw stones at Palestinian vehicles at the entrance of a village nr. Nablus. In East Jerusalem, Israeli forces set up a new checkpoint between al-Tur and Wadi al-Juz and they remove checkpoints in Wadi al-Juz and Shaykh Jarrah; demolish a livestock farm in Jabal Mukabir. Violence escalates in the West Bank as settlers and Israeli forces continue retaliating against Palestinians in the wake of the 10/1 killing of 2 settlers. Israeli settlers protest on a main road outside Nablus, and the IDF disperses the ensuing clashes with stonethrowing Palestinian youths. Meanwhile, settlers set fire to dozens of olive trees and Palestinian agricultural land nr. Nablus, and throw stones at drivers nr. Salfit, injuring 3 Palestinian medics. Late at night, IDF troops conduct raids in and around Nablus searching for the perpetrators of the killing; they arrest 10 Palestinians and deliver a demolition notice to the home of a suspect. Clashes erupt with stone-throwers, and the IDF injures 11 youths with live ammunition. Elsewhere in the West Bank, IDF troops violently disperse Palestinian, Israeli, and international protesters at demonstrations against the Israeli occupation and recent access restrictions at Haram al-Sharif in 6 areas nr. Ramallah (Bil‘in, Ni‘lin, Nabi Salih, Silwad, Jalazun r.c., and Budrus), Kafr Qaddum nr. Qalqilya, and 2 areas nr. Hebron; 6 Palestinians are injured, including 1 journalist. Israeli forces arrest 6 Palestinians in connection with clashes between Palestinian youths and Israeli settlers the day before in a village outside Bethlehem. IDF troops clash with Palestinian stonethrowers during patrols in and around Hebron, and outside Nablus Palestinian youths throw stones at 2 Israeli settlers, causing light injuries. Violence also continues in East Jerusalem, with the Israeli authorities continuing to enforce the restrictions on access at Haram al-Sharif that were announced on 9/27 for the Jewish holiday Sukkoth. Israeli forces temporarily seal the entrances to Issawiyya and shoot stun grenades at residents who approach their mobile checkpoints, sparking intermittent clashes; 1 Palestinian is seriously injured. Palestinian youths throw stones at Israeli border police in the Old City, causing minor injuries. On Gaza’s s. border, Israeli forces arrest 7 Palestinians attempting to cross into Israel for work. The Israeli crackdown on protests in East Jerusalem continues as the Israeli authorities restrict Palestinians’ access to Haram al-Sharif; only men over 40 and women are permitted to enter the sanctuary. Meanwhile, Israeli forces clash with Palestinian protesters across the city for the 2d day in a row (nr. the Old City and in Jabal Mukabir, Silwan, Issawiyya, Shu‘fat r.c., al-Tur, Abu Dis, al-‘Izzariya, and Wadi al-Juz); at least 4 Israeli police and 4 Palestinians are injured, and 11 Palestinians are arrested. Israeli forces also conduct raids and house searches in Silwan, Jabal Mukabir, Shaykh Jarrah, and the Old City, arresting 16 Palestinians and sparking minor clashes. Israeli Air Force (IAF) jets conduct an air strike targeting a vehicle in the Syrian Golan Heights between 10 and 15 km from the Israeli border, killing at least 4 of the PIJ mbrs. allegedly responsible for the 8/20 rocket attack on Israel. In Gaza, 2 Palestinian children are injured when an unexploded piece of Israeli ordnance detonates in n. Rafah. In the West Bank, IDF troops violently disperse Palestinian, Israeli, and international protesters at Friday demonstrations against the Israeli occupation in 6 areas nr. Ramallah (Bil‘in, Ni‘lin, Nabi Salih, Silwad, Jalazun r.c., and outside Ofer Prison) and Kafr Qaddum; 5 Palestinians are injured and 3 are arrested. Hunger-striking Palestinian prisoner Allan is placed in a medically induced coma after his condition deteriorates. Later, Islamic Jihad’s military wing, Sarayat al-Quds Brigades, says that if Allan dies, they will not continue upholding the cease-fire with Israel. (HA, JP, MNA, NYT, YA 8/14)

The Arab Bank reaches a settlement in a case brought by hundreds of U.S. citizens accusing the bank of facilitating Hamas attacks in Israel. The terms of the settlement are not disclosed. A U.S. court ruled in 9/2014 that the Jordan-based Arab Bank was liable for knowingly supporting Hamas in its attacks. (TOI 8/14; JP 8/15)

In Gaza, a small group claiming affiliation with ISIS fires 3 rockets toward Israel, with 1 landing in an open area nr. the Kissufim kibbutz on the Israeli side of the border, causing no injuries or damage. The IAF launches air strikes on a Hamas military site in c. Gaza in response; 4 Palestinians are injured. IDF troops on the Gaza border e. of Bayt Hanun shoot and injure a Palestinian teenager approaching the border fence. They also fire warning shots at Palestinian farmers nearby, causing no injuries. PA Prisoners’ Affairs Comm. head Qaraqe says that the IDF prosecutor intends to request permission from the courts to begin forcefeeding Muhammad Allan, a Palestinian prisoner who has been on hunger strike since 6/16.
