In the West Bank, Israeli forces prevented Palestinian farmers from working their agricultural land near Sabastiyya. Israeli forces opened fire at Palestinians at al-Fawar refugee camp, alleging that stones were thrown at them; 1 Palestinian was hospitalized after being hit in the face with a sound bomb. Separately, Israeli forces opened fire on a Palestinian driving a vehicle by Bayt Jala; the Palestinian man then crashed his car into a wall, injuring 1 passenger, and the driver was arrested by the Israeli forces. Another 13 Palestinians were arrested during late-night raids in and around Tulkarm, Ramallah, and Hebron. In East Jerusalem, 3 Palestinians were arrested during a late-night raid in al-Tur. Israeli settler guards attacked Palestinians in Silwan using live ammunition and sound bombs; at least 2 Palestinians were injured, including 1 who was hospitalized. In Israel, a Palestinian citizen of Israel was shot dead in Basmat Tab’un; no arrests were made in relation to the killing. In the West Bank, Israeli forces seized a Palestinian-owned car during a late-night raid in Salfit. Israeli forces and Palestinians clashed at the entrance to al-‘Arub refugee camp, leading to tear-gas related injuries. 2 Palestinians were arrested during the confrontation. Another 5 Palestinians were arrested, including 4 during late-night raids in and around Hebron and 1 at a flying checkpoint near Jenin. In East Jerusalem, Israeli forces seized a Palestinian-owned vehicle in Silwan. In Gaza, Israeli forces made incursions to level land east of Bayt Hanun. In Israel, Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu was rushed offstage during a speech in Ashqelon after a rocket was fired from Gaza; the rocket was intercepted by the Iron Dome missile defense system. In the West Bank, Israeli settlers attacked a Palestinian mother and her daughter in Hebron using pepper spray. Israeli forces seized a truck and a bulldozer in Bayt Umar near Hebron. Israeli forces arrested 14 Palestinians, including 1 disabled teenager by al-Ibrahimi Mosque; 9 during late-night raids in and around Hebron, Qalqilya, and Ramallah; 3 at a northern entrance to Bethlehem; and 1 at a flying checkpoint north of Tulkarm. Meanwhile, Israeli forces seized tents and uprooted trees in Khirbat Tana and dismantled residential shacks and a barn near Tubas. During the incident near Tubas, a B’tselem fieldworker was detained and his car was seized. In East Jerusalem, 7 Palestinians were arrested at the Haram al-Sharif compound and in Silwan. Approximately 232 Israeli settlers with military escort toured the Haram al-Sharif compound. In Gaza, Israeli forces opened fire at Palestinian bird hunters east of Khan Yunis; no injuries were reported. 1 Palestinian trying to cross the Gaza fence was injured by Israeli live ammunition; he was hospitalized and interrogated before being released on 12/24. Israel’s civil administration said it had reversed its initial decision to not allow any Christians from Gaza enter Jerusalem and the West Bank for Christmas celebrations. It said that all 950 applicants would be allowed to travel, pending a security screening. (HA 12/23)

The Israeli high court of justice criticized the Israeli government’s decision to return $63 million from the Palestinian Workers’ Sick Fund to Israeli employers. The $63 million were accumulated by payments from Palestinian workers in Israel to the sick fund for paid sick leave. The court ordered a freeze in payment to the Israeli employers and gave the Israeli state 3 months to respond to the justices’ questions. (HA 12/26)

In the West Bank, 4 Palestinians were arrested during late-night raids in and around Bethlehem, Ramallah, and Qalqilya; during the raids in Ramallah and Bethlehem, 3 Palestinians were injured. Israeli forces prevented Palestinian farmers east of Tubas from plowing their land. In East Jerusalem, 9 Palestinians were arrested during late-night raids in Issawiyya and Silwan. A 21-year-old Palestinian shepherd who lost 4 fingers due to an undetonated grenade in a West Bank military firing zone in 2012 was awarded, by the Jerusalem Magistrate’s Court, $87,000 for his injuries as the court ruled that the Israeli defense ministry had neglected to clear the area. In the West Bank, Israeli forces demolished a garage and car wash in al-Walaja and 4 residential structures and a blacksmith workshop south of Hebron. Israeli settlers attacked Palestinian farmers near Yatta, preventing them from farming their land. Israeli settlers also installed a mobile home on Palestinian-owned land near Burqa. 9 Palestinians were arrested, including 8 during late-night raids in and around Hebron and Tulkarm; 1 was arrested at a checkpoint near Tubas. PA prime minister Mohammed Shtayyeh expressed “great concern” over news that Israel and the U.S. were planning to implement parts of the economic peace deal announced at the June Manama workshop. So far, a field hospital is being constructed near the Erez crossing funded and operated by a U.S. evangelical Christian group FriendShips. In the West Bank, 26 Palestinians were injured when Israeli settlers and military escort toured Joseph’s Tomb, leading to clashes; 15 Palestinians were injured by rubber-coated bullets, 11 others suffered tear-gas related injuries. 4 Palestinians were arrested during late-night raids in and around Hebron. In East Jerusalem, 2 Palestinians were arrested during late-night raids in Silwan. In Gaza, Israeli forces struck at least 3 targets, causing damage but no injuries. Israel started construction to expand the Nof Tzion settlement in Jabal Mukabir of East Jerusalem. The settlement will be the largest in East Jerusalem when the construction finishes. 96 Israeli settler families currently live in the settlement and an additional 476 settlement units are expected be constructed. The committee behind the Great March of Return canceled the weekly protest scheduled for 11/29 for the 3d week in a row. In a statement, the committee said that they wanted to prevent Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu from being able to distract from his own pollical and personal issue by shedding blood. In the West Bank, Israeli forces demolished a shack housing 11 people east of Yatta. 4 Palestinians were arrested during late-night raids in and around Bayt Umar, al-Shuyukh, and Dahaysha refugee camp. In East Jerusalem, Israeli forces arrested PA governor of Jerusalem Adnan Ghaith during a house raid in Silwan. In Gaza, Israeli forces opened fire on Palestinian farmland on 2 separate occasions east of Khuza‘a and Khan Yunis; no injuries were reported. 107 members of U.S. congress signed a letter sent to Secretary of State Mike Pompeo criticizing the decision to no longer consider Israeli settlements illegal under international law, announced on 11/18. The letter was initiated by Andy Levin (D-MI) and expressed “strong disagreement with the State Department’s decision to reverse decades of bipartisan U.S. policy on Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank.” The members of congress further warned that the U.S. administration’s policies have “discredited the United States as an honest broker between Israel and the Palestinian Authority.” (HA 11/23)

The Netherlands announced that it will stop paying $1.5 million yearly in aid to the PA because of the stipends the PA pays to families of Palestinian prisoners and families of Palestinians killed by Israel. Israel frames these payments as “terrorist salaries.” The head of the Palestinian Prisoners’ Association said, “From a Palestinian perspective, the payments are meant to assist the families of Palestinians who are imprisoned by Israel for various political charges.” Pro-Israel lobbies in the Netherlands have tried to persuade the country from contributing to the PA. In the West Bank, Israeli forces violently dispersed sit-in protests in Bethlehem and Tulkarm against the shooting of a photojournalist who lost his eye on 11/16; in Tulkarm, 1 Palestinian was hit by a tear gas canister to the head, 2 others were injured by live ammunition, and others suffered tear-gas related injuries. Israeli forces shot and injured a Palestinian man at a checkpoint near Tulkarm. Meanwhile, Israeli forces raided Jalazun refugee camp, leading to clashes with Palestinian students leaving an UNRWA school. 2 students were transferred to a hospital with life-threatening injuries after being hit by live ammunition. Elsewhere, Israeli forces delivered demolition notices for 1 house east of Yatta. 4 Palestinians were arrested in Silwad and al-‘Arub refugee camp. In East Jerusalem, clashes erupted between Israeli forces and Palestinians in Silwan; no injuries were reported. Israeli forces also violently dispersed a sit-in protest by Hebrew University against Israeli airstrikes on Gaza; 3 people were arrested. 1 Palestinian was killed and 3 others arrested after a car chase; Israeli police alleged that the 4 had stolen cars and were heading for Bethlehem. Israeli police first said that the man they killed was shot while in the car; later the Israeli ministry of justice said he was shot after exiting the car. In the West Bank, Israeli forces shot and injured a Palestinian man using rubber-coated bullets as he was trying to enter Israel at a checkpoint southwest of Jenin. Elsewhere in Hebron, a video showed Israeli soldiers assaulting 1 Palestinian man and his 5-year-old boy. Israeli forces also delivered a stop-work notice for a house near Ya‘bad. Israeli settlers stole olive harvests from Palestinian farmers in Luban al-Sharqiyya. 10 Palestinians were arrested during late-night raids in and around Bethlehem, Bayt Umar, and Silwad. In East Jerusalem, Israeli forces demolished a Palestinian-owned home in Silwan. 2 Palestinians were arrested during late-night raids in Issawiyya. The Israeli supreme court upheld the Israeli government’s decision to expel U.S. citizen and Israel and Palestine Director at the Human Rights Watch Omar Shakir. The European Union donated $17.84 million to the PA to help make payments for PA civil servants and pensioners as the PA faces economic hardship due to Israel withholding part of its tax revenue. (WAFA 11/5)

In the West Bank, Israeli forces razed some 400 dunams (99 acres) of farmland land in Bayt Umar in preparation for paving a settler-only road. Israeli forces also fired tear gas near a school in Hebron, causing tear-gas related injuries among teachers and students. Elsewhere, Israeli forces shot and injured a Palestinian by the separation wall near Jenin as he was trying to enter Israel. Israeli forces also arrested 4 Palestinians during raids in and around Hebron, Bethlehem, and Tulkarm. In East Jerusalem, PA Jerusalem affairs minister Fadi Hidmi was arrested for the 3d time this year during a late-night raid in Silwan. Israeli forces also arrested 3 other Palestinians during raids in the Old City. In Gaza, Israeli forces opened fire on Palestinian agricultural lands east of Khuza‘a; no injuries were reported. In Israel, leaders of Palestinian citizens of Israel began a 3-day hunger strike to protest Israeli authorities’ inaction against violence in the communities. In East Jerusalem, Israeli forces shut down 2 roads in Silwan to facilitate Israeli settler movement to the Haram al-Sharif compound. Al-Ibrahimi Mosque was closed by Israeli authorities for Palestinians from midday. 18 Palestinians were arrested, including 17 during late-night raids in and around Tulkarm, Nablus, Jenin, and Bethlehem, and 1 Palestinian was arrested at a checkpoint near Salfit. In the West Bank, Israeli authorities seized some 1,500 dunams (370 acres) of Palestinian-owned residential and agricultural land in Dura. 9 Palestinians were arrested, including 8 during late-night raids in and around Abu Dis, Qalqilya, Tulkarm, Hebron, Nablus, and Ramallah; 1 was arrested during a daytime raid. In East Jerusalem, 2 Palestinians were arrested, including 1 during a late-night raid in Silwan; 1 Palestinian child was arrested at the al-Aqsa mosque after he allegedly attempted to stab an Israeli police officer, he was reportedly heavily beaten. Palestinian women in the West Bank, East Jerusalem, Gaza, and Israel marched to protest violence against women. The protesters adopted the slogan “Free homeland, free women.” The protests were sparked by a number of murders of Palestinian women by members of their families. The most recent was in late August, where a 21-year-old was killed allegedly by members of her family. (HA 9/27)

Around 100 Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails ended a 15-day-long hunger strike after the Israel Prison Service agreed to limit the jamming devices installed in the prisons and to install public phones. (WAFA 9/26)

PA president Mahmoud Abbas announced at the UN general assembly that he will set a date for general elections in the West Bank, East Jerusalem, and Gaza. President Abbas asked the UN to help aid and monitor the process. (HA 9/26)

The Saudi Arabian foreign minister announced that the country will contribute $50 million to UNRWA’s core program budget. (WAFA 9/28)

In the West Bank, Israeli force seized a vehicle near Tubas and demolished a house under construction near Nablus. Elsewhere, Israeli forces raided the office of the Union of Palestinian Women’s Committees in Hebron and seized computer hard drives. 16 Palestinians were arrested during late-night raids in and around Hebron, Bethlehem, Ramallah, Nablus, and Jenin. In East Jerusalem, Israeli forces demolished a Palestinian-owned barn in Silwan and a house under construction in al-Tur; during the latter demolition, 2 Palestinians were arrested and video shows family members who owned the property were assaulted by Israeli police. In Gaza, Israeli forces fired tear gas at Palestinian farmers east of Rafah. Separately, Israeli forces made incursions to level land east of Dayr al-Balah. Broward County in Florida unanimously passed a resolution condemning the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement. The resolution argued that the demand for Right of Return effectively would destroy the State of Israel as a homeland of the Jewish people. (MDW 9/27)

In the West Bank, Israeli forces violently dispersed a protest in al-Bireh against the treatment of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails; 8 injuries were reported. Elsewhere, in Ramallah, Palestinians suffered tear-gas related injuries during an Israeli military raid. Israeli forces also arrested 27 Palestinians during late-night raids in and around Ramallah, Bethlehem, Jenin, Salfit, Qalqilya, Hebron, Abu Dis, and Tulkarm. Israeli settlers with military escort raided an archeological site in Sabastiyya and Joseph’s Tomb in Balata. In East Jerusalem, the Israeli magistrate court ordered the eviction of a Palestinian family of 13 from their home in Silwan. The lawsuit was brought by the settler organizations Ateret Cohanim and Elad. 28 Palestinians were arrested during late-night raids in and around Issawiyya and Silwan. A court in Jerusalem upheld the Israeli Coordination of Government Activities in the Territories decision not to allow the majority of players and staff of the soccer team Khadamat Rafah travel permits to the West Bank for a match in the Palestinian soccer cup championship. The match was originally scheduled for 7/3, but the players and staff had not been able to obtain the permits to travel to the West Bank for the match for more than 2 months. The winner of the final game between Khadamat Rafah and Balata FC would represent Palestine at the Asian Cup. (AP, HA 9/23; AJ 9/25)

In the West Bank, Israeli forces violently dispersed the weekly anti-settlement protest in Kafr Qaddum, injuring 2 Palestinians with rubber-coated bullets. Israeli forces also confiscated a bulldozer belonging to the Taqqua municipality. Israeli settlers assaulted a Palestinian man on his land in Baytin and smashed the windshields of 3 Palestinian-owned cars in the area. In East Jerusalem, 1 Palestinian was arrested during a house raid in Issawiyya. An Israeli court ordered the eviction of 18 Palestinians from their home in Silwan, handing their property to the Jewish National Fund (JNF). The eviction order ends a 30-year-long legal battle between the family and the JNF. In Gaza, 109 Palestinians were injured during the 75th Great March of Return protest, including 52 injuries by Israeli live ammunition. In the West Bank, Israeli settlers from the Yitzhar settlement cut down Palestinian-owned olive trees in Burin village. 5 Palestinians were arrested by Israeli forces during late-night raids in and around Hebron, Ramallah, and Nablus; 1 of the arrested Palestinians also had 200 Jordanian Dinars and 600 NIS confiscated, amounting to $455. Israeli settlers threw stones at Palestinian-owned vehicles travelling on a road northeast of Ramallah, causing damage. In East Jerusalem, 1 Palestinian was arrested during a late-night raid in Issawiyya. 1 Palestinian demolished his store in Silwan after receiving a demolition order by Israeli authorities. After more than 340 Palestinians had been arrested in Issawiyya in East Jerusalem during the summer, it was reported that the Israeli police, the Jerusalem Municipality, and residents of Issawiyya had come to an agreement on limiting Israeli operations in Issawiyya. The agreement includes that residents of Issawiyya cancel a school strike on 9/2, the 1st day of the school year. (HA 9/1)

According to the Palestinian Energy Authority, Qatar will be cutting the amount of fuel it funds for Gaza by 50 percent, causing the hours of electricity available in Gaza to drop from 8 hours per day to 5 or 6. (HA 9/1)

At a visit to the Israeli settlement of Elkana, Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that that he aspires to apply Israeli sovereignty to all Jewish settlements in the West Bank. Netanyahu’s announcement comes 2 weeks before the Israeli general election. (AJ, HA, WAFA, WAFA 9/1)

The al-Kasom Regional Council in the Negev, which presides over a large Bedouin community, announced that 17,000 students would not start the school year as planned on 9/2 as the Israeli education ministry had not given it enough money to begin the school year as planned. (HA 9/1)

Israeli forces and Hezbollah operatives exchanged missiles near the border of Israel and Lebanon. According to Hezbollah, it fired anti-tank missiles at Israeli military vehicles. The Israeli military and Prime Minister Netanyahu announced that it had hit the Hezbollah cell that fired the anti-tank missiles with “100 shells, aerial fire and various measures.” (HA 9/1; AJ, AJ, HA 9/2; HA 9/4)

In the West Bank, Israeli forces closed a major artery connecting Hebron and Bethlehem with central and northern West Bank. Israeli forces also arrested 5 Palestinians during late-night raids in and around Jericho, Tulkarm, and Bethlehem. Israeli settlers threw stones at Palestinian vehicles near Huwwara south of Nablus. In East Jerusalem, 2 Palestinians were arrested during late-night raids in Silwan and Issawiyya. In Israel, 1 Palestinian woman was killed and 2 of her relatives were injured when an unknown perpetrator opened fire on them in Jaffa. (WAFA, WAFA, WAFA 8/25; HA 8/27; PCHR 8/29)

 Israeli drones were shot down over Beirut in a Hezbollah-dominated neighborhood. 1 of the drones was carrying explosives. A Hezbollah spokesperson denied that Hezbollah had shot down the drones. Lebanon’s prime minister Saad Hariri called the drones an open attack on Lebanon’s sovereignty and an attempt to foment regional tensions. (AJ, AJ, HA 8/25; HA 8/26)

Commenting on Israel’s strikes in Syria on 8/24, Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah said in a speech that Israel did not hit Iran’s Quds Force but Hezbollah forces, killing 2 Hezbollah members. 1 commander of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard also denied that Israel had hit the Quds Force. In the West Bank, Israeli forces and local residents of Sabastiyya clashed when the Israeli forces raided the town; several Palestinians suffered from tear gas inhalation. Israeli forces also arrested 4 Palestinians in raids in and around Hebron and Ramallah. In East Jerusalem, 1 Palestinian family demolished their own home in Silwan to avoid paying exorbitant fees to the Israeli Jerusalem municipality. Israel confirmed that it struck Syria in an attack where 3 were reported killed. Israel said it had attacked the Iranian Revolutionary Guard’s elite forces, the Quds Force. (HA 8/25)

In the West Bank, Israeli settlers attacked Palestinian farmers in Umm Safa north of Ramallah and fenced off 150 dunums (37 acres) of their land. Israeli forces arrested 11 Palestinians during late-night raids in and around Bethlehem, Jenin, Bayt Kahal, and Hebron. In East Jerusalem, 4 Palestinians were arrested in Issawiyya and Silwan. Off the coast of Gaza, Israeli naval forces opened fire on Palestinian fishermen 2 nautical miles off shore on 2 separate occasions. U.S. president Donald Trump attacked Representative Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) on Twitter, saying “She hates Israel and all Jewish people. She is an anti-Semite.” President Trump also said during a press gaggle that “I [President Trump] think any Jewish people that vote for a Democrat—I think it shows either a total lack of knowledge or great disloyalty.” President Trump’s comments drew widespread condemnation from Jewish groups in the U.S. (HA 8/20; HA 8/21)

In the West Bank, 1 Palestinian teenager was arrested in Qabalan south of Nablus; he is suspected of raping a girl in Tel Aviv. Israeli forces also arrested 1 Palestinian at a flying checkpoint on the Nablus-Ramallah road. In East Jerusalem, 5 Palestinians were arrested, 2 during late-night raids in Silwan and 3 in Issawiyya. In Gaza, Israeli forces opened fire on a sewage vacuum truck east of Khan Yunis. (HA 8/15; PCHR 8/22)

In the West Bank, Israeli forces arrested 3 Palestinians near a checkpoint south of Nablus. In East Jerusalem, 1 Palestinian was arrested during a late-night raid in Silwan and 2 were arrested by a checkpoint near Shu‘fat. The man arrested in Silwan was beaten during the arrest and briefly hospitalized before he was taken to court. Israeli authorities also warned the family of a Palestinian man killed on 6/28 by Israeli forces not to hold a banquet in his memory. In the West Bank, 1 Palestinian was arrested in Hebron. Elsewhere in the West Bank, Israeli forces seized tents and solar panels in Nahalin. In East Jerusalem, 9 Palestinians in Silwan were arrested by Israeli forces. In Israel, racist and malicious Hebrew graffiti was sprayed on walls and vehicles and 23 tires were slashed in the predominately Christian and Muslim town of Jish. (WAFA, WAFA 7/18; HA 7/19)

In the West Bank, Israeli forces demolished part of a house, a car wash, and another small structure in al-Jib. Israeli forces also razed land and set up caravans in Huwwara. Israeli settlers set up mobile homes on Palestinian-owned land near the Maskiyot settlement in the Jordan Valley. 8 Palestinians were arrested during late-night raids in and around Salfit, Jenin, and Bethlehem. In the raid near Bethlehem, Israeli forces clashed with local residents, leaving 1 Palestinian injured by live ammunition. In East Jerusalem, Israeli forces demolished a car wash in Sur al-Bahir, a commercial structure in Bayt Hanina, and 4 commercial structures in Silwan. Several heads of international organizations such as the UN, the World Bank, and the UNRWA called for Israel to halt planned demolitions of 10 residential buildings in Sur al-Bahir in East Jerusalem. The buildings are scheduled to be demolished on 7/18. (WAFA 7/17)

U.S. special representative for international negotiations Jason Greenblatt said in an interview with PBS that he rejects the term “occupied” to describe the West Bank, saying that, “Judea and Samaria . . . is disputed” rather than occupied. Of illegal Israeli settlement, Greenblatt said, “I don’t even like the word settlement. I think it’s a pejorative term. I use the term neighborhoods and cities.” (PBS 7/17; HA 7/18)

In the West Bank, Israeli forces detained 14 Palestinians during daytime and late-night raids in and around Ramallah, Jenin, Bethlehem, and Qalqilya. Israeli settlers from the Yitzhar settlement ignited a fire, destroying hundreds of Palestinian-owned olive trees in Burin. Separately, Israeli settlers cut down 160 olive trees near Susiya. Israeli forces demolished a cement wall in Hizma, a caravan in Idhna near Hebron, and seized a garbage truck in Bayt Furik. In East Jerusalem, Israeli forces forcefully evicted a Palestinian family from their home in Silwan to make way for Israeli settlers; at least 1 member of the family was arrested. Israeli forces also arrested 4 Palestinians during daytime and late-night raids in Qatanna and Silwan.
