The Palestine Chronology

In the West Bank, Israeli forces shot and critically wounded a Palestinian after she allegedly tried to stab an Israeli soldier near al-Ibrahimi Mosque in Hebron. Israeli settlers attacked Palestinian farmers harvesting olives in Huwwara, injuring 3 with stones. Separately, Israeli settlers stole Palestinian olive harvests in Dayr al-Hatab. 16 Palestinians were arrested during late-night raids in and around Bayt Duqqu, Hebron, Bethlehem, and Ramallah. In the West Bank, Israeli forces closed a major artery connecting Hebron and Bethlehem with central and northern West Bank. Israeli forces also arrested 5 Palestinians during late-night raids in and around Jericho, Tulkarm, and Bethlehem. Israeli settlers threw stones at Palestinian vehicles near Huwwara south of Nablus. In East Jerusalem, 2 Palestinians were arrested during late-night raids in Silwan and Issawiyya. In Israel, 1 Palestinian woman was killed and 2 of her relatives were injured when an unknown perpetrator opened fire on them in Jaffa. (WAFA, WAFA, WAFA 8/25; HA 8/27; PCHR 8/29)

 Israeli drones were shot down over Beirut in a Hezbollah-dominated neighborhood. 1 of the drones was carrying explosives. A Hezbollah spokesperson denied that Hezbollah had shot down the drones. Lebanon’s prime minister Saad Hariri called the drones an open attack on Lebanon’s sovereignty and an attempt to foment regional tensions. (AJ, AJ, HA 8/25; HA 8/26)

Commenting on Israel’s strikes in Syria on 8/24, Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah said in a speech that Israel did not hit Iran’s Quds Force but Hezbollah forces, killing 2 Hezbollah members. 1 commander of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard also denied that Israel had hit the Quds Force. An Iraqi group claimed that Israel killed 1 of its members in Iraq near the Syrian border in a drone attack. (AJ 8/25)

In the West Bank, Israeli forces demolished part of a house, a car wash, and another small structure in al-Jib. Israeli forces also razed land and set up caravans in Huwwara. Israeli settlers set up mobile homes on Palestinian-owned land near the Maskiyot settlement in the Jordan Valley. 8 Palestinians were arrested during late-night raids in and around Salfit, Jenin, and Bethlehem. In the raid near Bethlehem, Israeli forces clashed with local residents, leaving 1 Palestinian injured by live ammunition. In East Jerusalem, Israeli forces demolished a car wash in Sur al-Bahir, a commercial structure in Bayt Hanina, and 4 commercial structures in Silwan. Several heads of international organizations such as the UN, the World Bank, and the UNRWA called for Israel to halt planned demolitions of 10 residential buildings in Sur al-Bahir in East Jerusalem. The buildings are scheduled to be demolished on 7/18. (WAFA 7/17)

U.S. special representative for international negotiations Jason Greenblatt said in an interview with PBS that he rejects the term “occupied” to describe the West Bank, saying that, “Judea and Samaria . . . is disputed” rather than occupied. Of illegal Israeli settlement, Greenblatt said, “I don’t even like the word settlement. I think it’s a pejorative term. I use the term neighborhoods and cities.” (PBS 7/17; HA 7/18)

In the West Bank, IDF troops shoot and kill a Palestinian minor at a checkpoint near Jerusalem. The IDF reports that she was brandishing a knife and running toward Israeli soldiers at the checkpoint when they opened fire. Meanwhile, IDF troops arrest 7 Palestinians during raids near Ramallah, Bethlehem, and Hebron; and patrol near Hebron and Nablus. Israeli forces demolish a Palestinian home under construction in Huwwara village near Nablus and deliver stop-work orders to several Palestinian homes near Hebron. Israeli settlers slash the tires of 8 Palestinian vehicles and leave racist graffiti on nearby walls in Luban al-Sharqiyya near Nablus. In East Jerusalem, Israeli forces demolish a Palestinian-owned two-story building in Wadi al-Juz. Separately, a Palestinian family demolishes their own home in Silwan to avoid paying Israeli demolition fees.
