In the West Bank, thousands of Israeli settlers with a military escort toured Jabel ‘Aybal in Area B in an effort to assert their claim to the hill near Nablus. Israeli settlers also vandalized an agricultural structure in Ein al-Beida. Elsewhere, Israeli settlers with a military escort attacked Qusra, causing tear-gas related injuries. Israeli forces violently dispersed Palestinian protesters in Aqabat Jaber refugee camp, injuring 1 with live ammunition and others with tear gas. Israeli forces also violently dispersed Palestinian protesters in Hebron, assaulting 1 and firing tear gas. Elsewhere, Israeli forces prevented students and teachers from reaching 27 schools in the Masafer Yatta area. Israeli forces also closed the Ibrahimi Mosque to Muslim worshippers, citing the Jewish celebration of Sukkot. Meanwhile, Israeli forces erected dirt mounts on 3 roads leading to Sabastia and its Roman ruins, preventing Palestinian travel. Israeli forces also seized 1 tractor in Deir Istiya and 1 car in Khirbet Humsa. 12 Palestinians were arrested during late-night raids in Jenin, Ya’bad, Jalazone refugee camp, and Turmus ‘Ayya. In East Jerusalem, Israeli settlers were filmed spitting on Christians in the Old City. Israeli settlers also assaulted 1 Palestinian man in Silwan, causing bruises. Israeli forces assaulted 2 Palestinian women at the Chain Gate in the Old City near the Haram al-Sharif compound. 4 Palestinians were arrested in Isawiya and Silwan, including the son of PA governor of Jerusalem Adnan Ghaith. In the West Bank, Israeli settlers set a Palestinian-owned vehicle on fire and sprayed racist graffiti on walls in al-Mughayyir. Israeli settlers also assaulted Palestinian herders and journalists, razed land, and set up a tent in Khallet Taha near Bayt Awa. Elsewhere, Israeli settlers razed land in Aqraba and Majdal Bani Fadel. Israeli forces shot and injured 2 Palestinians with baton rounds during a raid in Rumana. In East Jerusalem, Israeli settlers dumped the belongings of the Sub Laban family on the street after they had seized their home in the Old City on 7/11; 1 member of the displaced family was arrested by Israeli police. Israeli forces issued demolition notices for several shops in Silwan. 2 Palestinians were arrested during raids in Jabel Mukaber. Islamic Jihad secretary-general Ziyad al-Nakhalah said that the group will boycott a meeting of Palestinian factions set to take place in Cairo on 7/30 unless the PA releases members of the Palestinian resistance, including Islamic Jihad members who have been arrested in recent weeks. Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu underwent surgery to have a pacemaker fitted. Justice Minister Yariv Levin was acting prime minister during the operation. Israeli settlers also razed land near Bayt Awa and stole a tent in Maeen in the Masafer Yatta area. Israeli forces seized a Palestinian-owned vehicle parked near the al-Jalama checkpoint. 8 Palestinians were arrested during raids in Husan, Tuqu’, and ‘Azzun. In the West Bank, 1 Israeli settler was shot and injured while driving in Huwwara, Israeli forces then shot, injured, and arrested a Palestinian man alleging that he was the perpetrator and closed a number of checkpoints in the area. Israeli settlers threw stones at Palestinian vehicles traveling near Baytin, causing damage. Israeli forces forced Palestinian farmers to leave their land in al-Khader. In East Jerusalem, 2 Israeli settlers broke into the Church of Gethsemane in the Old City and attempted to vandalize church property before being confronted by a Palestinian. In Syria, 1 member of Islamic Jihad was shot and killed by unknown perpetrators using a weapon equipped with a silencer outside of his home near Damascus. Islamic Jihad said that he was “assassinated by gunfire that carries the fingerprint of the Zionist enemy.” (AP, HA 3/19; ALM, AP 3/20)

At a summit in Sharm El Sheikh, attended by officials from the PA, Israel, Egypt, Jordan, and the U.S., Israel said it would halt discussions for new settlements for 4 months and halt authorization of settlement outposts for 6 months. The parties also agreed to de-escalate tensions, create a political horizon, and let the PA police Area A. The PA’s participation was criticized and condemned by Hamas, Islamic Jihad, and other Palestinian parties. Speaking in Paris, Israeli finance minister Bezalel Smotrich told the audience at a memorial ceremony that “there is no such thing as Palestinians because there is no such thing as a Palestinian people,” calling the term an invention. Smotrich then said that he and his family are the real Palestinians. The French government had announced that no officials would meet Smotrich during his trip to the country. In the West Bank, 18 Palestinians were arrested during late-night raids in Tarqumiyah, Dura, Bayt Kahel, Aida refugee camp, Nahalin, Nur Shams refugee camp, Nablus, al-‘Awja, and Ramallah. In Israel, a bomb explosion on a road near the Megiddo prison injured 1 Palestinian citizen of Israel traveling in his car. Israeli media reported that the bomb was planted by a person who had crossed from Lebanon into Israel during the weekend. A suspect was shot and killed later near Kibbutz Adamit. In the West Bank, Israeli forces shot and killed 1 Palestinian man and injured 7 others during a raid in Nablus; 6 were arrested. An Israeli soldier was filmed assaulting the Palestinian human rights activist Issa Amro in Hebron. A video of the incident was circulated by New Yorker journalist Lawrence Wright, who was given a tour of Hebron by Amro at the time of the assault. The Israeli soldier was later sentenced to 10 days in military jail, despite receiving support from Israeli national security minister Itamar Ben-Gvir. 7 Palestinians were arrested during late-night raids in Silwad, al-Mazra‘a al-Gharibiya, Jaba’, Dura, Ein as-Sultan, and Dheisheh refugee camp. In East Jerusalem, a Palestinian 13-year-old allegedly stabbed and killed 1 Israeli soldier at a checkpoint in Shu’fat refugee camp before being shot and injured by a settler. 1 Israeli minor was also stabbed and injured in the Old City; Israeli police later arrested a 14-year-old Palestinian who was said to be a suspect.
