Occupied Palestine/Israel: Israeli shekel now equals 1 US cent. [In 6 years of Likud gov't., Israeli currency devalued 99%.] Knesset defeats Communist no-confidence motion over agreements with Washington. Israeli "civil administration" imposes sanctions on Dheisheh camp residents, restricting travel permits to Jordan, preventing return of Palestinian visitors to other Arab countries.

Other Countries: Greece agrees to send 4 ships to Tripoli for evacuation of Arafat's soldiers. Mayor McCann of Jersey City, NJ, USA, announces his city to "adopt" Israeli settlement of Tekoah in West Bank. 

MILITARY ACTION:

Occupied Palestine/Israel: Central Nablus curfewed for 24 hours after failed grenade attack on Israeli patrol and Molotov cocktail thrown at patrol in Askar camp. 

Military Action:

Heavy fighting continues in Chouf; residents of Burj al-Shamali refugee camp near Tyre resist IDF patrol trying to enter orphans' training center.

Casualties:

Lebanese student killed, 7 injured wnen IDF fires at demonstration in Burj al-Shamali.

Israel/ Occupied Territories: Cabinet agrees in principle to draft withdrawal agreement, Sharon and Ne'eman oppose; Foreign Minister Shamir says Israel still seeks substantive changes in role of Haddad, designated in agreement as deputy commander in South Lebanon; public opinion poll shows that Labor Alignment would defeat Likud bloc 41.4% to 37.1% in election held now; West Bank land seizures reported during last week include 11,000 dunums from 4 villages in Nablus area, 1300 dunums from Kufur Sur, several dozen dunums from Rafat in Ramallah area, 1000 dunums from Beitunia, near Ramallah.

Military Action:

4000 soldiers of Lebanese Army take control of East Beirut without incident as Phalange removes its heavy weapons to hills; Haddad, accompanied by Israeli officers, places garrison in Nabatiyeh and parades tanks and armored vehicles.

Casualties:

IDF kills 3 men attacking roadblock 5km east of Beirut; about 100 prisoners reportedly released from Ansar.
