In the West Bank, 3 Israeli settlers were shot by unknown assailants during a drive-by shooting by an Israeli settlement near Yasuf; 1 of the settlers was said to be in critical condition. The Israeli military subsequently sent more soldiers to the West Bank to partake in the hunt for the perpetrators. Israeli settlers raided Qusra, causing damage to Palestinian-owned houses. Israeli settlers also raided Jalud, setting Palestinian property on fire; Israeli forces intervened on behalf of the Israeli settlers, arresting 11 Palestinians and injuring 4 with rubber-coated bullets. Israeli forces shot and killed 1 Palestinian 60-year-old woman, claiming she had attempted to stab the soldiers at a checkpoint north of al-‘Arub refugee camp; a video of the incident did show that the woman was carrying a knife but that she was several feet away from the soldiers and walking very slowly, displaying no imminent threat to the soldiers. Israeli forces also injured 5 Palestinians with live ammunition and arrested 11 during a raid in Beita. 5 other Palestinians were arrested, including 4 during late-night raids in Hizma and 1 at a checkpoint near Jenin. An Israeli supreme court judge postponed the eviction of 6 Palestinian families from their homes in Shaykh Jarrah until 5/6. The judge said the 6 families, 27 people, had to “reach an agreement” with the Israeli settlers set to displace them from their homes in the East Jerusalem neighborhood. The 6 families rejected having to reach an agreement with the settlers, maintaining that the land belongs to them. The PA said it will receive its 1st doses of COVID-19 vaccines in March from the company Astro-Zeneca. The PA foreign ministry also said in a statement that Israel is “ignoring its duties as an occupation power and committing racial discrimination against the Palestinian people, depriving them of their right to health care . . . The search by the Palestinian leadership to secure the vaccines from various sources doesn't exempt Israel from its responsibilities towards the Palestinian people in providing the vaccines.” Many human rights organizations, Amnesty International amongst them, have maintained that it is Israel’s responsibility to provide vaccines to the Palestinian people it occupies, a responsibility Israel denies, citing the Oslo Accords. The Trump administration announces that it has not yet reached a decision about relocating the U.S. embassy in Israel, despite the fact that today is the deadline for Trump to sign the presidential waiver delaying the move for 6 months. “We will share a decision on the waiver in the coming days,” a spokesperson says. Because Trump did not sign the waiver in time, U.S. law allows Congress to demand that he move the embassy and cut funding to the State Dept. It’s unlikely lawmakers will pursue either option.
