In the West Bank, 1 Israeli settler was lightly injured by glass shards from his vehicle after his car was hit by live ammunition near Huwwara. Israeli settlers set up tents on Palestinian-owned land near Yatta. Hundreds of Palestinians took part in a funeral procession from Ramallah to Nabi Salih for the 2-year-old Palestinian boy who was critically injured by Israeli forces on 6/1 and died of his wounds on 6/5. Israeli forces attacked Palestinians in Nabi Salih after the funeral, injuring 1 with live ammunition, 1 with a baton round, and others with tear gas. Israeli forces also violently dispersed Palestinian protesters in Beit Umar, causing tear-gas related injuries. Elsewhere, Israeli forces uprooted 50 olive trees in Hizma. Israeli forces also temporarily seized, for 3 days, parts of a 3-story house in Zeita for a military outpost. Meanwhile, Israeli forces demolished 1 house in al-Mazra’a al-Gharbiya. 11 Palestinians were arrested during late-night raids in Tammun, Tulkarm, Qabatiya, Nablus, and Beit Fajjar. In East Jerusalem, 5 Palestinian families demolished their own homes in Wadi Qaddum, displacing more than 30 Palestinians. Israeli authorities also demolished 1 home in Wadi al-Juz, displacing 8. 3 Palestinians were arrested in Isawiya. In the West Bank, 3 Israeli settlers were shot by unknown assailants during a drive-by shooting by an Israeli settlement near Yasuf; 1 of the settlers was said to be in critical condition. The Israeli military subsequently sent more soldiers to the West Bank to partake in the hunt for the perpetrators. Israeli settlers raided Qusra, causing damage to Palestinian-owned houses. Israeli settlers also raided Jalud, setting Palestinian property on fire; Israeli forces intervened on behalf of the Israeli settlers, arresting 11 Palestinians and injuring 4 with rubber-coated bullets. Israeli forces shot and killed 1 Palestinian 60-year-old woman, claiming she had attempted to stab the soldiers at a checkpoint north of al-‘Arub refugee camp; a video of the incident did show that the woman was carrying a knife but that she was several feet away from the soldiers and walking very slowly, displaying no imminent threat to the soldiers. Israeli forces also injured 5 Palestinians with live ammunition and arrested 11 during a raid in Beita. 5 other Palestinians were arrested, including 4 during late-night raids in Hizma and 1 at a checkpoint near Jenin. In East Jerusalem, Israeli forces violently dispersed Palestinian protesters in Shaykh Jarrah demonstrating against the eviction of Palestinians from the neighborhood (see below), tear-gas related injuries were reported and 1 was arrested. An Israeli supreme court judge postponed the eviction of 6 Palestinian families from their homes in Shaykh Jarrah until 5/6. The judge said the 6 families, 27 people, had to “reach an agreement” with the Israeli settlers set to displace them from their homes in the East Jerusalem neighborhood. The 6 families rejected having to reach an agreement with the settlers, maintaining that the land belongs to them. Israeli forces violently dispersed a tree-planting event in Bayt Dajan, causing tear-gas related injuries; Israeli forces had tried to prevent Palestinians from reaching the event throughout the day by setting up roadblocks. Israeli forces also violently dispersed the weekly anti-settlement protest in Kafr Qaddum, injuring 4 with rubber-coated bullets; others suffered tear-gas related injuries. Elsewhere, Israeli forces opened fire at Palestinians passing through a hole in the separation wall near Jenin; 1 Palestinian was injured. According to Israeli officials, incendiary balloons sent from Gaza toward Israel started 28 fires. Palestinians in Gaza protested the Israel-UAE normalization deal in Gaza City. Off the coast of Gaza, Israeli naval forces opened fire on Palestinian fishermen, causing damage to 1 boat and minor injuries to 1 fisherman. The Sudanese foreign ministry fired its spokesperson after he said on 8/18 that Sudan was looking forward to normalizing ties with Israel, a claim that the foreign ministry denied that same day. Saudi Arabia’s foreign minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud said that “Saudi Arabia considers Israel’s unilateral policies of an annexation and building settlements as an illegitimate and detrimental to the two states solution . . . Saudi Arabia reaffirms its commitment to peace as a strategic option based on the Arab Peace Initiatives.” The Arab Peace Initiative stipulates normalization with Israel is predicated on the establishment of a Palestinian state.
