Israeli crews, protected by soldiers and police, demolish 3 houses in Jenin area [FJ 8/30].

Arab World: Abu 'Ali Shahin, PLO representative in Lebanon, is injured in assassination attempt outside 'Ayn al-Hilwah refugee camp in Sidon [CSM 8/27; FJ 8/30].

Other Countries: U.S. Commerce Dept. levies $381,000 fine against NCR Corp. for participation by 9 subsidiaries in Arab boycott of Israel [WP 8/26].

Arab World: In S. Lebanon security zone, 6 Israeli soldiers are wounded in mine explosion. Sources report mines were planted by SLA [CSM. 8/26]. Unidentified fighters attack UNIFIL patrol near Yatir, killing 1 Nepalese soldier, wounding 3 others [CSM 8/26].

Occupied Palestine/Israel: Estimated 2,000 Arab and Jewish students participate in rally at Hebrew University to protest government decision to charge higher tuition for students who have not served in the army; officials of Haifa and Hebrew universities announce they will not carry out plan [NYT 5/19]. Six Palestinian political prisoners believed members of Islamic Jihad escape from Gaza Prison [FJ 5/24]. Military authorities in Gaza impose ban on fishing [FJ 7/12].

Occupied Palestine/Israel: Worshippers at al-Aqsa Mosque join demonstration after noon prayers; in Nablus, troops disperse demonstration, order al-Rawda College closed until 4/24 [FJ 4/12]. Explosion causes extensive damage to new Sultan al-Atrash monument on the Golan Heights. Residents blame Israeli authorities [FJ 4/12].

Other Countries: Turkish police reporthey have foiled plan to kidnap Americans and Israelis living in Turkey and exchange them for 200 members of Islamic Jihad held in Israel [NYT 4/11].
