A Palestinian child succumbs to injuries sustained on 8/8/2014 during Israel’s summer 2014 assault on Gaza. Four members of the boy’s family were killed that day when an Israeli air strike targeted his family home. Meanwhile, thousands of Palestinians march through Gaza City in protest of U.S. pres. Trump’s reported decision to move the U.S. embassy in Israel to Jerusalem. IDF troops violently disperse dozens of Palestinians protesting along the border near Khan Yunis (there are no serious injuries). In the West Bank, the IDF temporarily closes the entrance to nearby Ya‘bad village after reports of shots fired at an Israeli settler bus near Jenin. IDF troops clash with stonethrowing Palestinians in al-‘Arub refugee camp near Hebron; there are no serious injuries. They also arrest 27 Palestinians during late-night raids near Nablus, Jenin, and Bethlehem; and patrol near Hebron and Bethlehem. In a speech broadcast from the White House, U.S. pres. Trump announces that the U.S. recognizes Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and that his administration will begin the process of moving the U.S. embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. “I have judged this to be in the best interest in the pursuit of peace between Israel and the Palestinians,” he says. PA pres. Abbas says that the U.S. can no longer serve as mediator between the Israelis and Palestinians. An IDF spokesperson says that the troops opened fire when the driver exited his vehicle brandishing a knife. Elsewhere in the West Bank, Israeli settlers visit a holy site outside Kafr Haris nr. Salfit, sparking clashes between their IDF escort and Palestinian youths in the village; there are no serious injuries. IDF troops arrest 3 Palestinians and confiscate NIS 2,000 (approx. $600) during raids nr. Nablus and Ramallah, and patrol nr. Nablus and Hebron. In East Jerusalem, Israeli forces escort Israeli settlers on their way to take over a Palestinian-owned building in Silwan. When Palestinians in the area confront the group, Israeli forces violently disperse them; there are no serious injuries. U.S. rep. Greenblatt returns to Israel for more talks with Israeli and Palestinian officials on restarting peace negotiations. The Hamas-run energy authority in Gaza announces the resumption of fuel deliveries from Egypt as of today, allowing Gaza’s sole power plant to begin operating a 2d turbine. The transfers were suspended on 7/6 after the PA began blocking Hamas’s payments for fuel to Egypt. (EI, MNA 7/10)

They also detain a Palestinian TV crew covering settlement growth nr. Nablus. Meanwhile, Palestinians living nr. The Israeli Knesset passes, 60–52, the so-called regulations bill into law, retroactively authorizing settlements built “in good faith or at the state’s instruction” on privately owned Palestinian land. France, Jordan, Turkey, the EU, the UN, the Palestinians, and the UK all denounce the new law, but the U.S. does not offer a direct comment.
