In the West Bank, Israeli forces set up a metal gate, shutting the main entrance to Nabi Salih. Israeli forces also handed a demolition notice for the family home of a Palestinian prisoner in Kubar and handed a stop-work order for 4 structures in the Jordan Valley. Elsewhere, Israeli forces entered al-Ibrahimi Mosque and forced worshippers and staff to leave the mosque. Israeli forces also violently suppressed a protest in al-Bireh; 2 Palestinians were injured by live ammunition, 3 by rubber-coated bullets, and others suffered tear-gas related injuries. 7 Palestinians were arrested during late-night raids in and around Hebron, Bethlehem, Ramallah, and Nablus. In East Jerusalem, 1 Palestinian was arrested during a late-night raid in Issawiyya. Off the coast of Gaza, Israeli naval forces opened fire and used water hoses on Palestinian fishermen 3 nautical miles off the coast of Gaza City, causing damage to boats. In Gaza, Israeli forces opened fire on Palestinian farmland east of Rafah; no injuries were reported. In Israel, more than 150 vehicles were vandalized and racist graffiti in Hebrew, such as “Jews wake up” and “Enough with the assimilation,” was sprayed on several buildings in the Christian Palestinian village of Jish. At a UN Security Council meeting, PA president Mahmoud Abbas sharply rejected the U.S. administration’s peace plan, saying “[t]his is an Israeli-American pre-emptive plan in order to put an end to the question of Palestine.” While President Abbas was speaking in New York, Palestinian protesters in Ramallah demonstrated against the U.S. peace plan. After the protest, Palestinians and Israeli forces clashed at a checkpoint north of Ramallah; 2 Palestinians were injured by rubber-coated bullets and others needing treatment for tear-gas related injuries. Along Gaza’s border, unidentified Palestinians fly an incendiary device into southern Israel using a balloon. It lands in an open area, causing no damage or injuries. Off Gaza’s coast, Israeli naval forces open fire on Palestinian fishing boats near Rafah and Jabaliya refugee camp and Gaza City; 2 fishermen are arrested and their boat is damaged. In the West Bank, Israeli forces bulldoze a road leading to Palestinian farmland outside Kobar village near Ramallah, sparking minor clashes with stone-throwing residents of the area; 1 Palestinian is injured. They also deliver stop-work orders to 4 Palestinian structures under construction near Salfit. Meanwhile, IDF troops assault and injure a Palestinian activist in Hebron; shoot and injure a Palestinian minor amid clashes sparked by an arrest raid in Nabi Salih near Ramallah; arrest 4 Palestinians during late-night raids near Ramallah, Bethlehem, and Qalqilya; and patrol near Hebron, Tulkarm, Qalqilya, and Salfit. Undercover Israeli forces shoot and kill a Palestinian after apprehending him on a road outside Surda village near Ramallah late at night. The man was wanted in connection to the drive-by shooting attack that led to the injury of 7 Israeli settlers on 12/9. After the killing, IDF troops raid the alleged attacker’s home in nearby Kobar village, detaining his extended family, arresting his father and brother, sparking clashes with residents of the area; 3 Palestinians are injured. Separately, they arrest 4 other Palestinians accused of conspiring to perpetrate the 12/9 attack and confiscate the vehicle they allegedly used during raids in and around Ramallah. Elsewhere in the West Bank, IDF troops shoot and kill a Palestinian amid a firefight sparked by an arrest raid in ‘Askar refugee camp near Nablus. The Palestinian was reportedly wanted in connection with the killing of 2 Israeli settlers on 10/7. IDF troops shoot and injure 1 Palestinian amid clashes sparked by an IDF raid in Nabi Salih village near Ramallah; arrest 10 Palestinians and issue 1 arrest summons during late-night raids in and around Tulkarm, Tubas, and Hebron; and patrol near Hebron throughout the day. In East Jerusalem, Israeli forces demolish a Palestinian car garage in Bayt Hanina and conduct raids at al-Quds University in Abu Dis, confiscating surveillance tapes and detaining several Palestinians. Along Gaza’s border, IDF troops open fire on Palestinian shepherds working near Khan Yunis, causing no damage or injuries. An Israeli newborn succumbs to complications stemming from the drive-by shooting attack outside the Ofra settlement on 12/9. His mother was 7 months pregnant when she was shot and seriously injured in the attack. She gave birth hours after the shooting and remains in stable condition. (HA, JP, TOI, YA 12/12)
