IDF troops shoot and seriously injure a Palestinian youth, allegedly after he drives his car into Israeli civilians, first at the Efrat junction, and later at the Gush Etzion junction near Bethlehem, injuring 2. After the first collision, the Palestinian drove on to Gush Etzion, where he hit and moderately injured the 2d Israeli. He was shot when he exited his vehicle. Meanwhile, IDF troops violently disperse Palestinians, Israelis, and international activists at Friday protests against Israel’s occupation, settlements, and separation wall in 3 villages near Ramallah (Nabi Salih, Bil‘in, and Ni‘lin) and Kafr Qaddum near Qalqilya; no Palestinians are seriously injured. Two Palestinians are injured during clashes with IDF troops in ‘Azun village near Qalqilya, and the IDF patrols near Salfit and Qalqilya. Israeli settlers throw stones at Palestinian farmers working their lands outside Burin village; 1 Palestinian is injured. Settlers also throw stones at Palestinian homes and pepper-spray 2 Palestinian children east of Hebron and burn a small swath of Palestinian land near Nablus. The Associated Press reports that the U.S. State Dept. recently notified the Palestinians that the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) diplomatic office in Washington could be forcibly closed unless they enter peace negotiations with Israel (see Update). Secy. of State Rex Tillerson reportedly told the Palestinians that the decision stemmed from Palestinian Authority (PA) pres. Mahmoud Abbas’s expressions of support for the International Criminal Court investigating and prosecuting Israelis in his 9/20 speech to the UN General Assembly (UNGA). (AP, HA, TOI 11/17)

Ahead of Friday prayers, the Israeli police announce that Palestinian men younger than 50 will be barred from Haram al-Sharif today. They also specifically bar 21 Palestinians from the site and deploy heavily across East Jerusalem. In response to these new restrictions, thousands of young Palestinian men and others pray on the streets of the Old City outside the sanctuary in the morning. Meanwhile, Israeli forces violently disperse Palestinians protesting the recent restrictions to access at the sanctuary across the oPt; 1 Palestinian is killed in Gaza and at least 20 are injured. IDF troops shoot and kill a Palestinian at the Gush Etzion junction nr. Bethlehem claiming that he attempted to stab an Israeli soldier. No Israelis are injured in the incident. A Palestinian witness says that the victim had no knife or any other kind of weapon. Elsewhere in the West Bank, IDF troops shoot and injure a Palestinian farmer tending to his lands nr. Salfit. In Amman, hundreds of Jordanians gather outside the Israeli Embassy to protest the fatal shooting of 2 Jordanians by an Israeli security guard on 7/21 and the Israeli embrace of the guard in the wake of the killing. IDF troops shoot and kill a Palestinian driver at the Gush Etzion junction nr. Bethlehem after she allegedly attempts to ram an Israeli soldier (the soldier is injured in the collision). In the evening, a verbal argument between small groups of Palestinians and Israelis in the Old City of Jerusalem turns violent; 1 Israeli is stabbed and lightly injured. Meanwhile, the IDF violently disperses Palestinian, Israeli, and international activists at Friday demonstrations against Israel’s occupation, settlements, and separation wall in 6 areas nr. Ramallah (Bil‘in, Ni‘lin, Nabi Salih, Silwad, Jalazun r.c., and outside a settlement nr. al-Bireh), 1 nr. Qalqilya, in n. Bethlehem, and 2 areas along Gaza’s border; 7 Palestinians are injured. The IDF conducts house searches and raids nr. Bethlehem, arresting 7 Palestinians; patrols nr. Ramallah, Hebron, and Tulkarm. Israeli forces level 2 small swaths of land nr. Salfit. Along Gaza’s border, IDF troops open fire on Palestinian workers nr. Gaza City, causing no injuries. In East Jerusalem, Israeli forces arrest 2 Palestinians in the Old City and 2 on raids in Silwan, sparking clashes with stone-throwing Palestinian youths; there are no serious injuries.
