In the West Bank, Israeli forces continued their attacks on Jenin refugee camp, killing 4 Palestinians, bringing the death toll to 12, including 5 children. 143 Palestinians were injured during the 48-hour assault on the camp. 1 Israeli soldier was killed by friendly fire. Israeli forces also raided 3 hospitals in Jenin, including the Khalil Suleiman Government Hospital, injuring 3 with live ammunition and causing tear-gas related injuries. The deputy governor of Jenin said that 80% of homes in Jenin were damaged in the Israeli attack. About 4,000 Palestinians were displaced during the attack. UNRWA reported damage to 4 of its schools and 1 of its health clinics in the camp. The Latin Church said that its Holy Redeemer Church in Jenin was severely damaged. Israeli forces also violently dispersed Palestinian protesters in Kafr Dan, injuring Palestinians with live ammunition and baton rounds. Elsewhere, Israeli forces violently dispersed Palestinian protesters in al-Bireh, injuring 2 with live ammunition. Israeli forces also issued stop-work orders for 1 agricultural structure and 1 house and a demolition order for 1 agricultural structure in al-Karmil near Yatta. Israeli settlers threw stones at Palestinian-owned vehicles near Jericho, causing damage. Israeli settlers also raided Deir Dibwan, shooting and injuring 1 Palestinian and throwing stones at vehicles. 20 Palestinians were arrested during late-night raids in Halhul, Jalazun refugee camp, Husan, Tubas, Nablus, and Qalqilya. In Gaza, Israeli forces shot and injured 4 Palestinians protesting Israel’s attack on Jenin at the Gaza fence west of Gaza City. In Tel Aviv, 1 Palestinian was shot and killed after he rammed a car into several Israelis before stabbing others, injuring 8. Israeli settlers vandalized 2 Palestinian-owned vehicles near Hebron, smashing the windows. Israeli forces shot and killed 1 Palestinian minor during a late-night raid in Far’a refugee camp. Israeli forces also shot and injured 1 Palestinian using live ammunition during a raid in Shu’fat refugee camp. 16 Palestinians were arrested during late-night raids in al-‘Awja, Halhul, Yatta, Dahariya, Nablus, Zababdeh, and al-Bireh. Israel’s acting interior minister Michael Malchieli wrote a letter to the father of the Palestinian man who hit and killed 3 Israeli settlers with his car on 2/10, saying that Israel may revoke his East Jerusalem residency. The Palestinian man who drove the car had been released from a psychiatric ward the day before the incident after suffering a mental health episode. (HA 2/14)

The U.S. State Department withdrew the nomination of James Cavallaro as an independent member of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights after the pro-Israel publication the Algemeiner published a story on Cavallaro’s criticism of Israel. U.S. State Department spokesperson Ned Price said that tweets that Cavallaro had posted in the past were “inappropriate to say the least,” referring to tweets where Cavallaro criticized representative Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) for accepting donations from AIPAC and criticized Israel’s human rights record. In the West Bank, Israeli settlers vandalized 9 Palestinian vehicles and sprayed racist graffiti in Jinsafut. Israeli settlers also razed 40 olive trees in Shufa. Elsewhere, Israeli settlers attacked 2 Palestinians, including a disabled man, in Burqa. Israeli forces demolished 1 Palestinian house under construction in al-Bireh. Israeli forces also released an attack dog at a Palestinian during an arrest in al-Bireh; a video of the incident shows the man with his hands in the air as Israeli forces releases the dog on him. Israeli military later defended the act, calling it proper because the dog was wearing a muzzle. 10 Palestinians were arrested during late-night raids in Khirbat Makhul, Qarawat Bani Hassan, Kafr ad-Dik, Balata refugee camp, ‘Anata, Abu Dis, Hebron, and Halhul; 1 Palestinian was shot and injured by Israeli forces using live ammunition during the raid in Abu Dis. In East Jerusalem, Israeli settlers vandalized 15 Palestinian vehicles in Sheikh Jarrah. Israeli police violently dispersed Palestinians with stun grenades who were protesting a provocative settler presence led by Itamar Ben-Gvir of the Religious Zionism party, who had reopened a makeshift outdoor office in Sheikh Jarrah on 2/13; 1 was assaulted by Israeli police and 2 were arrested. In the West Bank, Israeli settlers attacked Palestinian farmers near Huwwara, injuring 2 with iron rods and stones and killing 1 sheep and injuring 3 others. Israeli forces violently dispersed Palestinian protesters during a rally on the 17th anniversary of the death of Yasir Arafat in Ramallah; 14 were injured by rubber-coated bullets and others suffered tear-gas related injuries. Israeli forces also violently dispersed Palestinians throwing stones at checkpoints near Halhul, al-Bireh, and Abu al-Rish, injuring several with tear gas. The lawyer of 1 Palestinian prisoner complained that his client was convicted of a crime that he allegedly committed outside of prison while being in Israeli custody. The man is convicted of throwing rocks at Israeli forces in June of 2019 in Jalazun refugee camp. He was in prison at that time. (HA 11/11)

The PA foreign ministry said that NSO Group’s Pegasus spyware was detected on phones belonging to 3 Palestinian officials working on preparing material for the ICC in the case against Israel. The foreign ministry did not name the organization that had detected the spyware, but said it was a professional Palestinian institution. In the West Bank, 1 Palestinian teen shot by Israeli forces during an anti-settlement protest on 6/16 in Beita succumbed to his injuries. Israeli forces demolished 1 house in Halhul and displaced 8 Palestinians, demolished 1 car wash in Jinsafut, delivered demolition orders for 8 structures in Jawaya, and demolished 1 agricultural structure in Wadi Muhaisen. Israeli forces also shot and injured 4 Palestinians during a late-night raid in Jenin. Elsewhere, Israeli forces continued blocking the main road to ‘Azun for the 2d day in a row. 7 Palestinians were arrested during late-night raids in and around Jalazun refugee camp, Yatta, Tarqumiyya, and Kafr Dan. In East Jerusalem, 2 Palestinians were arrested during late-night raids in Silwan. In Gaza, Israeli forces conducted air strikes in Khan Yunis and Gaza City, causing damage; no injuries were reported. Israel said the air strikes were in response to incendiary balloons sent toward Israel, which were said to have ignited 8 fires. In Israel, a Palestinian Israeli journalist had large parts of his home blown up by a bomb planted in his house in Taibeh, causing severe damage but no injuries. Israel arrested a Palestinian Israeli imam of Lydda’s largest mosque, Shaykh Yousef al-Baz, saying he had incited violence by sharing a clip from a movie showing people killing a police officer on Facebook. (HA 6/17; MEMO 6/18)

The Israeli justice ministry indicted 1 Israeli border police officer for reckless homicide in relation to the shooting of Eyad al-Hallaq, a Palestinian man with special needs, in the Old City of East Jerusalem on 5/30/2020. In the West Bank, 1 Palestinian teen was severely injured by an unexploded ordinance left behind by Israeli forces in the Masafer Yatta area near Yatta. Israeli forces violently dispersed Palestinian protesters in the Masafer Yatta area; 1 Palestinian was run over by an Israeli military vehicle and others suffered tear-gas related injuries. Israeli forces also violently dispersed Palestinian protesters during the weekly anti-settlement protest in Kafr Qaddum, injuring 2 Palestinians who were hit by tear gas canisters. Elsewhere, Israeli forces violently dispersed Palestinian protesters in Bayt Dajan and Dayr Jarir, leading to tear-gas related injuries. Israeli forces also clashed with Palestinians in Kafr Malik; 1 Palestinian was shot and injured by a rubber-coated bullet and others suffered tear-gas related injuries. Meanwhile, Israeli forces clashed with Palestinians in Bayt Umar and east of al-Bireh, leading to tear-gas related injuries. Israeli forces also confiscated a Palestinian-owned tractor in Sinjil and a tractor and bulldozer in Bayt Dajan. 5 Palestinians were arrested during raids in and around Jenin refugee camp, Halhul, and Dayr Jarir; clashes broke out during the raids in Jenin refugee camp, leading to tear-gas related injuries.
