In the West Bank, 1 Palestinian man hit 1 Israeli soldier with his car in a crash near the Halamish settlement near Deir Nidham. Israeli forces arrested the Palestinian man who also sustained injuries; it was unclear if he hit the soldier on purpose. Israeli settlers threw stones at Palestinian vehicles near Sabastia and closed a road between Jenin and Nablus. Israeli settlers with military escort also closed an entry to al-Lubban al-Sharqiya. Israeli forces shot and injured 5 Palestinian protesters with rubber-coated bullets at a checkpoint near Birzeit University; others suffered tear-gas related injuries. Israeli forces also uprooted 40 dunams (9.9 acres) of land planted with olive and almond saplings, demolished agricultural structures in Battir, and demolished 1 residential tent in Bayt Jala, displacing 6. 9 Palestinians were arrested during raids in Beit Sahour, Dheisheh refugee camp, Tulkarm, Bir al-Basha, Jaba‘, and Kobar. In East Jerusalem, 1 Palestinian was arrested during a raid in Silwan. In Gaza, Israeli forces opened fire at Palestinian farmers east of Dayr al-Balah; no injuries were reported. Israeli forces also opened fire and fired tear gas at Palestinian farmers northeast of Beit Hanun, causing tear-gas related injuries. Off the coast of Gaza, Israeli naval forces opened fire at Palestinian fishermen within 3 nautical miles west of Gaza City, damaging 1 boat; no injuries were reported. In Gaza, Israeli forces made incursions and leveled land east of al-Shuka. In the Naqab desert, Israeli police violently dispersed Palestinians protesting a forestation program designed to displace Palestinian Bedouins from their land near Sawa; 16 were arrested and 2 Israeli police officers were reportedly injured. There were also reports that stone-throwers had attacked 1 bus, that large stones had been placed on railway tracks, forcing a train to stop, and that 1 Israeli journalist was assaulted and his car set on fire. The Israeli supreme court ruled that the Israeli interior ministry cannot continue to deny Palestinians married to Israeli citizens residency rights, using a temporary ban that expired in July 2021. In the West Bank, Israeli settlers raided ‘Urif but were chased away by locals before causing any damage. 1 Palestinian woman was shot by Israeli forces after allegedly trying to stab a soldier at the Yitzhar junction; her condition was unclear. Israeli forces also razed a 1-kilometer-long road leading to Battir. 8 Palestinians were arrested during late-night raids in and around Deir al-Ghusun, Husan, and Dura; during the raid in Deir al-Ghusun, 1 Palestinian was injured by Israeli forces while protesting their incursion. In East Jerusalem, 116 Israeli settlers toured the Haram al-Sharif compound. In the West Bank, Israeli settlers attacked 1 Palestinian working on rehabilitating a road east of Yatta and damaged the excavator he was using. Israeli forces delivered demolition notices for 20 residential structures in Rujeib, a house under construction, and an agricultural shack in Battir. Israeli forces also seized a mobile home in Khallet al-Nahleh, south of Bethlehem. Elsewhere, Israeli forces shot and injured 1 Palestinian who tried to enter Israel through a hole in the separation wall near ‘Anin before arresting him. 13 Palestinians were arrested during late-night raids in and around Jenin, Jenin refugee camp, Rummana, Tulkarm, and Qarawat Bani Hassan. In East Jerusalem, 44 Israeli settlers toured the Haram al-Sharif compound. Israeli settlers led by Israeli MKs from HaTzionut HaDatit (The Religious Zionist) party Bezalel Smotrich and Orit Strock harassed Palestinian residents under eviction threat in Shaykh Jarrah. 1 Palestinian family demolished their own home in Issawiyya. 5 Palestinians were arrested during late-night raids in Silwan. Off the coast of Gaza, Israeli naval forces opened fire at Palestinian fishermen within 3 nautical miles west of Bayt Lahiya and al-Sudaniyya; no injuries were reported. After meeting in a Hamas office, various political and military factions in Gaza issued a warning to Israel to ease the blockade. The factions said that if Israel does not comply, they would allow the launching of incendiary balloons and protests by the Gaza fence. (AJ, MEMO 6/23)

Iran said it had foiled a drone attack on a building belonging to the Iranian Atomic Energy Organization in Karaj City, 25 miles west of Tehran. According to the New York Times, the building was on a list of potential targets Israel had presented to the U.S. and which the Trump administration had approved for targeting by Israel. U.S. ambassador to Israel David Friedman and U.S. special representative for international negotiations Jason Greenblatt attended the inauguration ceremony of “Path of the Pilgrims,” an excavation of a large underground archeological site underneath Silwan in East Jerusalem. The excavation is led by the settler organization Elad, the Israeli antiquities authority, and the Nature and Parks Authority. The excavations have been going on for years and residents of Silwan have complained several times about damage to their properties due to the excavations. The presence of the 2 U.S. officials was seen as an implicit recognition of Israeli sovereignty over East Jerusalem by the Trump administration. (HA 6/30; HA, HA 7/2)

IDF troops shoot and kill a Palestinian at the Huwwara checkpoint near Nablus after he allegedly attempts to stab 1 of them. Elsewhere in the West Bank, hundreds of right-wing Jewish activists visit Joseph’s Tomb near Nablus overnight, sparking clashes between their IDF escort and Palestinians in the area; 1 Palestinian and 2 IDF soldiers are injured. Separately, IDF troops arrest 4 Palestinians and issue 3 arrest summons during late-night raids near Nablus, Hebron, and Bethlehem; and patrol near Hebron and Bethlehem. Israeli forces uproot about 35 olive trees and 38 almond trees and raze 15 dunams (approximately 3.7 acres) of Palestinian land outside Battir village near Bethlehem. In East Jerusalem, a Palestinian demolishes his own car repair shop in Issawiyya to avoid paying Israeli demolition fees. Israeli forces raid and then disperse an event marking the 50th anniversary of the al-Makassad Hospital in al-Tur, enforcing the Israeli ban on PA-sponsored events in the city. Israeli forces also arrest 2 Palestinians during a patrol in Silwan. Along Gaza’s border, Israeli forces conduct limited incursions to level land near Bayt Hanun and Bayt Lahiya. Violent protests break out among the Palestinian populations of 3 Israeli prisons—Ofer, Nafha, and Gilboa—leading to the injury of at least 17 Palestinian prisoners and 3 Israeli guards, according to the Israeli Prison Service (IPS). Prisoner support groups report that as many as 140 Palestinians are at least lightly injured.
