Senior IDF commander Col. Amir Baram tells Israeli television that the army may soon need to enter the Gaza Strip, potentially going ‘‘house to house,’’ in order to ‘‘maintain deterrence.’’ (ToI 10/22)

The IDF kills 3 armed Palestinians (including at least 1 Hamas mbr. and 1 PRC mbr.) during an incursion into the Gaza Strip. Armed Palestinians initially fired mortars at the IDF troops when they entered Gaza, and the IDF responded with air strikes. The IDF also opens fire nr. Bayt Hanun in the morning (causing no injuries) and makes brief incursions into areas nr. Bayt Lahiya and Jabaliya (opening fire but causing no injuries).
