In the West Bank, the IDF conducts house searches and arrest raids in Hebron and 2 nearby villages, and 1 village each nr. Ramallah and Salfit; patrols in 4 villages nr. Ramallah, 2 villages nr. Hebron, 1 village nr. Jericho and in Salfit. Also, IDF troops violently disperse Palestinian, Israeli, and international protesters at weekly demonstrations against Israel’s separation wall, settlements, and occupation in 4 villages nr. Ramallah (Bil‘in, Nabi Salih, Nil‘in, and Wadi Fukin), and 1 village nr. Qalqilya (Kafr Qaddum). There are no serious injuries. At an anti-occupation protest in Silwad nr. U.S. and Iranian officials meet for a 2d day of talks in Geneva, with the teams led by Dep. Secy. of State William Burns and Under Secy. of State Wendy Sherman, and Iran’s Dep. FM Abbas Araghchi, respectively. Separately, a report by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) leaked to the press says that Iran has failed to address concerns about suspected atomic bomb research. Off the coast of the Gaza Strip nr. Bayt Lahiya, Israeli naval vessels open fire on Palestinian fishermen, causing no damage or injuries. Separately,IDF troops open fire from the border fence nr. Karni crossing, causing no injuries. In the West Bank, IDF troops demolish a Palestinian house in a village nr. Tulkarm and clash with residents, causing no injuries. Separately, IDF troops demolish 4 commercial stalls in the n. Jordan Valley. The IDF conducts house searches and arrest raids in Hebron at night; patrols in 2 villages nr. Iranian and U.S. officials meet in Geneva and hold their 1st official, bilateral talks since the beginning of the Vienna negotiations between reps. of Iran and the P5+1 powers on 1/20. Attended by Iran’s Dep. FM Araghchi along with U.S. Dep. Secy. of State William Burns, and Under Secy. of State Wendy Sherman, the discussions are intended to overcome the impasse reached in Vienna and make it possible to reach a comprehensive agreement by the 7/20 deadline. The 5th round of talks is scheduled to begin on 6/16. Araghchi tells Iranian media that it is “too early to judge whether an extension will be needed.” (AFP, AP, HA, REU 6/9)

The IDF conducts morning patrols in Qalqilya, Salfit, 2 villages nr. Jenin, and 1 village each nr. Jericho and Tulkarm; fires tear gas, stun grenades to disperse a funeral procession nr. Hebron, causing no serious injuries; conducts late-night arrest raids, house searches in and around Jenin and in Salfit; conducts late-night patrols in Jericho, 2 villages each nr. Ramallah and Tulkarm, and 1 nr. Salfit. Jewish settlers in Hebron attack the home of a Palestinian released in the prisoner swap deal that freed captured IDF soldier Gilad Shalit in 10/2011, hang posters urging that he be killed, vandalize a grocery store owned by a relative; the Palestinian, Hani Jaber, had been sentenced to life in prison for fatally stabbing a settler in 1993. The incidents spark several clashes between the settlers and local Palestinians in which settlers attack and vandalize several more Palestinian homes; the IDF intervenes, separating the sides. In an incident in Dayr al-Balah, IDF soldiers grant permission to an international delegation, including 3 UN staff members, to visit and question a local Palestinian family, provided they stay only 30 mins. and not enter the family’s home; the delegation complies, but as it is leaving, an IDF soldier deliberately shoots the 15 yr. old son of the family fr. a distance of 20 m., hitting him in the back, partially paralyzing him; the international team transports the boy to a Gaza City hospital. IDF also fires on residential areas of Brazil r.c., wounding an 11-yr.-old Palestinian boy; bulldozes 15 dunams of land, demolishes a Palestinian home nr. Jenin, 1 in Salfit nr. Nablus, a poultry farm in Dayr al-Balah; conducts arrest raids in Bayt Hanina, Gaza City, nr. Jenin. Armed Jewish settlers attack a Palestinian neighborhood in Hebron, seriously beating a 13-yr.-old Palestinian girl. In Jenin, unidentified assailants open fire on Palestinian Authority (PA) health minister Jawad al-Tibi, Palestinian Economic Council for Development and Reconstruction head Muhammad Ishtiyya during a visit to inaugurate a new hospital; neither is injured.
