In the West Bank, Israeli settlers attacked Palestinians harvesting olives in Burin, injuring 2 Palestinians. Video footage of the incident released by Yesh Din shows Israeli soldiers directly aiding the settlers in the attack by handing them smoke grenades. The settlers also threw stones at homes nearby, smashing solar panels. Israeli settlers also threw stones at Palestinian vehicles traveling near Duma, causing damage. The new Israeli-imposed restrictions for entry into the West Bank, outside of Israeli settlements, took effect. The heavily criticized restrictions were 1st published earlier this year in the policy paper “Procedure for entry and residence of foreigners in the Judea and Samaria area,” issued by Israel’s Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories and have been slightly amended after criticism by U.S. and EU lawmakers. Haaretz reported that Israel will approve the purchase of 2 helicopters by the PA for usage of PA officials. The helicopters, which will be stationed in Jordan, are reportedly funded by Gulf state donations. The PA will need permission from Israel to use the helicopters in the West Bank. The ACLU filed an appeal with the U.S. supreme court asking it to review the appeals court decision to uphold an Arkansas state law that penalizes companies boycotting Israel. Norway announced that it will adopt the EU court of justice’s 2019 ruling calling for EU countries to label food products made in Israeli settlements by their correct origin and not as products of Israel. The 4 Palestinian prisoners who were caught by Israeli forces after escaping Gilboa prison on 9/6 were at a court in Nazareth for a closed-off remand hearing. The Shin Bet asked the court to extend the prisoner’s detention with the Shin Bet for 13 days. The 4 have not been allowed to meet with a lawyer. 1 of the prisoners, Zakaria Zubeida, was later admitted to a hospital after receiving heavy beatings by Israeli interrogators. During the 1st of a 2-day visit to Washington D.C., Israeli prime minister Naftali Bennett met with U.S. secretary of state Antony Blinken, secretary of defense Lloyd Austin, and national security advisor Jake Sullivan. Prime Minister Bennett, who is scheduled to meet President Joe Biden on 8/26, also met with AIPAC’s CEO Howard Kohr and President Betsy Berns Korn. Secretary of Defense Austin said that the Biden administration was working fulfil Israel’s request of $1 billion to replenish the Iron Dome missile defense system after Israel’s attack on Gaza in May.
