In the West Bank, Israeli forces violently dispersed Palestinians protesting settlement expansion in ‘Ayn al-Bayda. Israeli forces also violently dispersed a Palestinian protest in Bayt Dajan, injuring 3 with live ammunition, 2 with rubber-coated bullets, 2 with rifles, and others suffered tear-gas related injuries. In East Jerusalem, Israeli police prevented over 300 Palestinians from entering the Haram al-Sharif compound for Friday prayers and arrested 4 for being in East Jerusalem without a permit. In Gaza, 1 Palestinian was arrested for attempting to enter Israel by the Gaza fence east of al-Bureij. 5 Democrats in the U.S. senate wrote a letter to U.S. secretary of state Antony Blinken urging him to pressure Israel to provide vaccines to all Palestinians in the occupied territories, citing international law. The letter was signed by Bernie Sanders (D-VT), Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), Tom Carper (D-DE), Sherrod Brown (D-OH), and Jeff Merkley (D-OR). 12 members of the house of representatives led by Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) and Mark Pocan (D-WI) also sent a letter to Secretary Blinken urging him to rescind the Trump administration’s “peace plan” and to pressure Israel to stop violations of international law. In the West Bank, Israeli forces demolished 1 house, displacing 7 Palestinians, and power lines affecting 10 houses in Bayt ‘Awa. 10 Palestinians were arrested during raids in and around Ramallah, al-Bireh, Aida refugee camp, Jenin, and Jaba‘a; during the raid in Jaba‘a, a confrontation broke out between Israeli forces and Palestinians, leading to 1 Palestinian wounded by live ammunition and others suffering tear-gas related injuries. PA prime minister Mohammed Shtayyeh visited the Israeli-demolished community Khirbet Humsa to inspect the damage; Israel demolished residential and agricultural structures in Khirbet Humsa on 2/1 and 2/3, displacing more than 70 people. (WAFA 2/4)

In his 1st major foreign policy speech, U.S. president Joe Biden said that the U.S. would end its support of the Saudi-led offensive in Yemen and engage in a UN-led humanitarian initiative instead. Ending U.S. support includes ending all arms sales used in Yemen. President Biden did not mention the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and is believed to let his State Department deal with the conflict. In 1 amendment among hundreds to the budget reconciliation resolution, the U.S. senate approved backing the 2017 Trump administration decision to move the U.S. embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. 97 senators voted for the amendment while 3—Bernie Sanders (D-VT), Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), and Tom Carper (D-DE)—voted against. In the West Bank, Israeli settlers attacked Palestinian herders in al-Twana, injuring 1 who was treated at a hospital. Israeli forces violently dispersed Palestinians during the weekly anti-settlement protests in Kafr Qaddum; 1 Palestinian was injured by a rubber-coated bullet, others suffered tear-gas related injuries. In Gaza, Israel struck targets belonging to Hamas after a rocket was fired at Israel. Israeli authorities said it believed that Hamas operatives did not fire the rocket. Israeli forces also opened fire on agricultural lands east of Dayr al-Balah; no injuries were reported. In a letter to the U.S. State Department, 6 senators from the Democratic Party urged the Trump administration to release the funds allocated to humanitarian aid for Palestinians by U.S. congress to help curb the spread of the COVID-19 virus. Congress had allocated $75 million in aid to Palestinians for the 2020 fiscal year. The 6 senators who signed the letter were Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), Chris Van Hollen (D-MD), Sherrod Brown (D-OH), Patrick Leahy (D-VT), Tom Udall (D-NM), Tom Carper (D-DE), Jeff Merkley (D-OR), and Bernie Sanders (D-VT).
