On Gaza’s border, IDF troops stationed along the border fence open fire on Palestinian farmers working nr. Bayt Lahiya, causing no injuries. In the West Bank, thousands of Palestinians attend funerals in and around Hebron for the 17 Palestinians whose bodies were returned to the area by the Israeli authorities on 1/1. After 1 funeral, hundreds of Palestinian youths throw stones at Israeli soldiers, sparking clashes wherein 12 Palestinians are injured. The IDF conducts latenight raids and house searches in Hebron and 2 villages nearby, Balata r.c. nr. Nablus, 2 villages nr. Bethlehem, arresting 9 Palestinians and issuing arrest summons to 2; patrols in 2 villages and al-‘Arub r.c. nr. Hebron, as well as 3 villages nr. Ramallah. Israeli settlers throw stones at a Palestinian home nr. Nablus, causing no serious damage, before residents of the village chase them away. The Israeli authorities return the bodies of the 3 Palestinians killed by the IDF on 11/17 and 12/16 to their families nr. Ramallah. In East Jerusalem, Israeli settlers torch a Palestinian car in al-Thawri late at night, and the ensuing fire damages 7 other cars.
