In the West Bank, Israeli forces demolished a blacksmith shop in Hizma and handed demolition notices for Palestinian-owned homes in the northern part of the Jordan Valley. 19 Palestinians were arrested, including 17 during late-night raids in and around Jenin, Tubas, Jericho, Bayt Fajjar, and Hebron; and 2 at different flying checkpoints near Jerusalem. A talk by a Palestinian citizen of Israel at the Hecht Museum at Haifa University was canceled by the Hecht Museum because the artist was “Palestinian,” which would displease the Hecht Foundation. The Haifa University condemned the decision and relocated the talk elsewhere on campus. (HA 1/16)
