In the West Bank, Israeli settlers assaulted 2 Palestinians west of Salfit. Israeli forces delivered stop-work orders for 1 shack, 1 room, 1 house, 1 residential tent, 1 tin residential structure, and 1 water well in al-Twana. 10 Palestinians were arrested during late-night raids in and around Nahalin, Aida refugee camp, Hebron, ‘Araba, and Bayt Duqqu. Off the coast of Gaza, Israeli naval forces opened fire on Palestinian fishermen west of Gaza City; no injuries were reported. A Palestinian family of 18 lost an appeal in an Israeli court to prevent their eviction. The court told them they have until 8/16 to leave their house in Silwan and pay the KKL-Jewish National Fund $5,800. The 1st application for the eviction of the family was filed in 1991 and asserted that the father of the family had abandoned the property. The court found that the family had failed to prove ownership of the building. (HA 7/1)

The secretary of state of the Vatican summoned the ambassadors of the U.S. and Israel to express the Holy See’s concern over Israel’s intentions to annex parts of the West Bank. (REU 7/1)
