In the West Bank, armed Israeli settlers attacked Palestinians working their land near Tuba, injuring 1 Palestinian; 1 settler was also reported injured. Israeli forces subsequently arrested 1 Palestinian. A video of the incident showed Israeli settlers firing several shots and aiming their gun at Palestinians. 20 Palestinians were arrested during late-night raids in Jenin, Ya‘bad, Jalazun refugee camp, al-‘Amari refugee camp, Qalandia refugee camp, Hebron, Bayt Awa, Bethlehem, and Aida refugee camp. In East Jerusalem, 3 Palestinians were arrested in the Old City. Off the coast of Gaza, Israeli naval forces opened fire at Palestinian fishermen west of Beit Lahiya and northwest of Khan Yunis; no injuries were reported. The Israeli supreme planning council approved expanding the road leading to the Israeli settlement Har Gilo south of Jerusalem. The widening of the road is a planned precursor to building a new settlement next to Har Gilo, which will completely enclose al-Walaja. The new settlement, if constructed, will add 560 new settlement units next to Har Gilo. (HA 9/12; PCN 9/13)
Religious Zionist party chairman Bezalel Smotrich called for Israel to ban Palestinian parties in Israel during a speech on counterterrorism at Richman University. Smotrich’s party list, which is merged with Jewish Power, is polling to become the 4th largest in Israel at the 11/1 elections. (HA 9/12)
Israeli prime minister Yair Lapid met with German chancellor Olaf Scholz and foreign minister Annalena Baerbock during the 2d day of his visit to Germany.
