In the West Bank, IDF troops shoot and injure a Palestinian youth nr. Qalqilya as he attempts to enter Israel for work; shoot and injure a Palestinian at a checkpoint nr. Jenin after he allegedly attempts to stab an Israeli soldier. The IDF patrols in a village nr. Bethlehem, sparking clashes with stone-throwers and injuring 7 Palestinians. IDF troops conduct house searches and raids in 1 village each nr. Qalqilya, Ramallah, and Nablus, as well as 2 nr. Bethlehem, arresting 14 Palestinians; patrol in 1 village each nr. Nablus and Jericho, 5 nr. Hebron, and 2 nr. Ramallah. Israeli forces continue leveling land nr. Asfar settlement s. of Bethlehem in preparation for the construction of a military tower. A Palestinian resident of the area says that they have razed 2.5 dunams (around 0.6 acres) since 1/6. The Israeli authorities declare a 300-dunam (around 74 acres) swath of land nr. Jenin a closed military zone; return the body of a Palestinian killed by Israeli forces in East Jerusalem on 10/12. The head of the Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs reports that the health of Palestinian prisoner al-Qiq, who has been on hunger strike since 11/24, is quickly deterioriating. He calls on human rights groups to intervene for the release of al-Qiq and another hunger striker, Jordanian prisoner Issa Qaraqe. (MNA 1/10)

The Jerusalem District Court rules that the municipal govt. must draft a plan to build at least 20 playgrounds in Shu‘fat and Bayt Hanina within 5 years, responding to a suit filed in early 2015 by Palestinian residents of East Jerusalem. The petitioners complained about a lack of recreational space in Palestinian areas of the city, citing the huge discrepancy between the number of playgrounds in Jewish and Palestinian neighborhoods. Israeli drones makes an air strike on a car in Gaza City, assassinating Zuhair al-Qaissi, top military cmdr. the Popular Resistance Comms. (PRCs) and senior PRC mbr. Mahmoud Hanani, and seriously wounding 1 civilian bystander. Israel accuses Qaissi of plotting a cross-border attack similar to the 8/2011 Elat attack from Egypt. In response, Islamic Jihad and the PRCs fire at least 6 Qassam rockets, 4 Grads, and 2 mortars fr. Gaza into Israel, causing no damage or injuries. Later, Israel carries out 2 more air strikes on a rocket-launching team e. of Gaza City, killing 3 Islamic Jihad mbrs. Late in the evening Israeli warplanes make 3 air strikes on separate targets nr. Gaza City, striking a residential area (lightly injuring 2 civilians inside their home), targeting a garage under an apartment building (injuring 3 civilians, including a child), and targeting a group of armed Palestinians, killing 1 Islamic Jihad mbr. In the West Bank, the IDF patrols in 6 villages nr. Ramallah in the morning; 3 villages nr. Jenin in the evening (firing tear gas and stun grenades at stone-throwing youths who confront them in 1 instance, causing no injuries); and 1 village nr. Tulkarm late at night. Palestinians (accompanied by Israeli and international activists) hold weekly nonviolent demonstrations against the separation wall, land confiscations, and settlement expansion in Bil’in, Nabi Salih, and Ni’lin; demonstrations in Bil’in and Nabi Salih also call for solidarity with Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails. Similar protests area also held in Bayt Dajan nr. Nablus and Kafr Qaddum nr. Qalqilya. IDF soldiers fire live (Nabi Salih only) and rubber-coated steel bullets, tear gas, and stun grenades at the protesters, causing no reported injuries; 1 American activist is arrested. As the armed conflict in Syria escalates, Hamas officials in Lebanon meet with Hizballah leaders to urge them to back away from supporting the Asad regime, warning that continued support for a regime that kills innocent civilians would undermine Hizballah’s reputation. (NYT 4/6)

The IDF makes a day-long incursion into c. Gaza e. of al-Bureij r.c. and a brief nighttime incursion into s. Gaza e. of Khuza to level lands and clear lines of sight. Later, an Israeli drone fires a missile at Hamas mbrs., wounding 2 (1 seriously). In the West Bank, the IDF conducts arrest raids, house searches in and around Qalqilya and nr. Hebron. IDF troops on the n. Gaza border fire on Palestinian farmers, preventing them fr. reaching their fields nr. the border fence but causing no injuries. In the West Bank, Ni‘lin villagers defy an IDF curfew to stage peaceful protest marches against the IDF blockade imposed on 7/5; the IDF fires tear gas, rubber-coated steel bullets at the protesters, lightly injuring around 50. The IDF also bulldozes newly paved roads in Ni‘lin while the curfew is in place, damaging part of the municipal sewage system; conducts latenight arrest raids, house searches in and around Nablus, in Tulkarm, and nr. Bethlehem, Jenin, Qalqilya, Ramallah. Jewish settlers fr. Asfar settlement nr. Bethlehem beat 2 Palestinian shepherds grazing their flocks nearby. In Hebron, local Jewish settlers harass a French diplomatic delegation touring the city with Palestinian guides, arguing that settlers should lead the tour because the delegation was on “Israeli land.” A carload of Jewish settlers fires on a Palestinian taxi nr. The IDF surrounds, searches the home of a wanted Palestinian in Allar nr. Tulkarm and, not finding him, threatens to demolish the house if he does not surrender, arrests his sister apparently for leverage; conducts arrest raids, house searches nr. Hebron and in Jenin (firing on residential areas), al-Khadir; patrols in, fires on residential areas of Tubas. Palestinians in n. Gaza fire an antitank missile at an IDF post just inside Israel, causing no damage or injuries. Jewish settlers fr. The Israeli Interior Min. issues demolition orders for 25 buildings in an unrecognized bedouin village in the Negev. Bedouin scuffle with Israeli policemen attempting to serve the demolition orders, leaving 12 bedouin and 12 police officers injured. (YA 11/15)

The IDF sends troops into al-Bathan nr. Nablus who surround, open fire on a car carrying 3 Palestinians, wounding 1, arresting all 3 without explanation; later conducts arrest raids in the same area; also conducts arrest raids, house searches in al-Yamun nr. Jenin. Jewish settlers fr. Asfar uproot more than 55 olive trees belonging to Palestinians in nearby Hebron. An AMB mbr. and a Hamas mbr., both fr. Gaza’s Jabaliya r.c., stage a double suicide bombing inside Israel’s Ashdod port, some 30 mi. north of the Strip, killing 11 Israelis, wounding 20, and marking the 1st suicide bombing inside Israel staged fr. Gaza and the 1st targeting civilian infrastructure. Hamas, AMB issue a communiqu´e stating that “joint, qualitative operations” involving various factions will be their practice in the future. In response, the IDF launches air strikes against 3 metal foundries, a printing press (alleged weapons factories) in Gaza City, wounding 1 Palestinian. The IDF also fatally shoots 3 armed Palestinians attempting to infiltrate Netzarim settlement; fatally shoots a Palestinian during an arrest raid in Rafah; fires on Palestinians playing soccer on a field nr. Neve Dekalim settlement, wounding 1; fires rubber bullets, stun grenades at Palestinian, Israeli, international demonstrators protesting the separation wall nr. Mod’in Ilit settlement, wounding 10; conducts arrest raids, house searches in Aida r.c., al-Qarara and nr. Nablus, Qalqilya. Jewish settlers fr. Ma’ale Shomron nr.
