In the West Bank, IDF troops conduct earlymorning raids in Ramallah, order a print shop to shut down, and spark minor clashes with stone-throwing youths. They arrest 6 Palestinians, assault 2, and confiscate 1 car during late-night raids in and around Hebron, Ramallah, Jenin, and Nablus, and patrol near Salfit, Jenin, and Nablus. An Israeli settler driver strikes a Palestinian youth near Bethlehem, causing critical injuries. In East Jerusalem, the Israeli authorities evict a Palestinian family from their Sheikh Jarrah home of 53 years, allowing Israeli settlers to move into the property. When the family protests, Israeli police assault and arrest 2 of the men, moderately injuring 1 (they will be released on 9/6). The settlers claim to be descendants of the home’s pre-1948 owners. Several international human rights groups, including Amnesty International, condemn PA pres. Abbas for arresting Youth Against Settlements founder Amro on 9/4. Meanwhile, Amro goes on hunger strike to protest his “arbitrary arrest,” according to his brother Ahmad. In the West Bank, IDF troops conduct raids in Bayt Rima near Ramallah overnight, arresting 1 Palestinian and shooting and injuring another. Late-night raids in al-Fara‘a refugee camp near Tubas spark further clashes; 1 Palestinian is injured and 3 are arrested. The IDF arrests 9 more Palestinians during raids in and around Jenin, Ramallah, Nablus, Qalqilya, Hebron, and Bethlehem, and patrols near Hebron and Nablus. Israeli settlers park a number of residential trailers on Palestinian land near Nablus. PASF troops arrest a prominent Palestinian activist, Issa Amro, 1 day after he posted calls for the resignation of PA pres. Abbas and PM Hamdallah on Facebook (Amro is the founder of Youth Against Settlements). In East Jerusalem, Israeli forces arrest 3 Palestinian youths during a raid in al-Tur. The IDF closes al-Ibrahimi Mosque in Hebron to non-Jews and maintains the general closure of the oPt during Rosh Hashanah. Meanwhile, a group of settler children harass a Palestinian family picking olives nr. Hebron. They attempt to steal some olives before a local chapter of Youth Against Settlements intervenes. IDF troops raid a village nr. Nablus late at night and patrol nr. Hebron and Ramallah during the day. In East Jerusalem, 45 right-wing Jewish activists visit Haram al-Sharif. A Palestinian family demolishes part of its own home in the Old City to avoid paying Israeli demolition fees. The Palestinian High Court of Justice rules that the municipal elections, which were set for 10/8 before being indefinitely delayed on 9/8, will go forward on 10/8 only in the West Bank because the courts operating in Gaza are “illegal.” The court previously said it favored holding elections across all Palestinian territory, including Gaza and East Jerusalem.
