Israeli officials and the Palestinian delegation hold mediated talks on extending the 8/26 cease-fire and other remaining issues. Israel seeks to ensure the demilitarization of Gaza and a tightly controlled reconstruction process, while the Palestinians seek a broader opening up of Gaza to the outside world, including air and seaports. Israeli forces shoot down a Syrian fighter jet after it enters Israeli airspace. The plane is destroyed after it turns back toward the border, so the wreckage lands in Syrian territory.
