In the West Bank, Israeli settlers set fire to 4 aid trucks headed to Gaza from Jordan near Bayt Awa. Israeli settlers also block an aid convoy from Jordan at the Tarqumiyah checkpoint, stealing aid. Elsewhere, Israeli settlers set fire to farmland near Madama. Israeli settlers also steal wheat and barley crops in al-Minya. Meanwhile, Israeli settlers throw stones at Palestinian homes and set fire to a car in Jalud. Israeli settlers also throw stones at a Palestinian vehicle near Duma, causing damage. Israeli forces demolish 2 homes and assault a Palestinian man in ‘Azzun. Israeli forces also assault a Palestinian man in Huwwara. Elsewhere, Israeli forces raid Husan, causing tear-gas related injuries. Israeli forces also arrest 15 Palestinians during raids in and around Ramallah, Hebron, Qalqilya, and Jerusalem. In East Jerusalem, Israeli settlers set fire to the fence around the UNRWA headquarters in Sheikh Jarrah, the third attack on the compound this month. In Gaza, Israeli forces bomb Nuseirat refugee camp, Jabalia refugee camp, Beit Lahiya, al-Bureij refugee camp, Gaza City, and Rafah, killing at least 57 people. Israeli forces also open fire on a clearly marked UN vehicle in Rafah carrying 2 UN workers, killing an Indian security worker, the first foreign UN worker killed since 10/7/2023, and injuring another UN worker from Jordan. More than 190 Palestinian UN workers have been killed in Israeli attacks since 10/7/2023. Meanwhile, Israeli forces open fire at ambulances trying to reach injured people in Jabalia refugee camp. Israeli forces also issue evacuation orders for the Kuwaiti Hospital in Rafah and 6 UNRWA schools that are used as shelters in Jabalia refugee camp. In Lebanon, Israeli forces bomb Odaisseh and Ayta ash Shaab. Hezbollah forces attack Israeli soldiers in Metulla, Beit Hillel, and Kfarchouba, injuring 4 soldiers. In Yemen, U.S. forces conduct airstrikes in the western part of the country and intercept a ballistic missile over the Red Sea. More than 5,000 people have been injured. Israel reports that 1,139 Israelis and foreign nationals have been killed and 5,400 have been injured in Israel since 10/7/2023, including Israeli soldiers. In addition, 271 Israeli soldiers have been killed and 1,610 injured in Gaza since the ground invasion began on 10/27/2023. Over 1.93 million Palestinians, nearly 85% of the population of Gaza, have been displaced since 10/7/2023. There has been a complete electricity blackout in Gaza since 10/12/2023 due to the Israeli blockade. At least 79,000 housing units have been destroyed and 370,000 have been damaged in Israeli airstrikes since 10/7/2023. The European Gaza Hospital near Khan Yunis runs out of fuel. The UN estimates that 360,000 Palestinians have fled Rafah since 5/6. 76 Palestinians held at Israeli detention facilities in Israel are released to Gaza. Hamas says it has lost contact with its members guarding 4 Israeli captives. Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh meets with Malaysian prime minister Anwar Ibrahim in Qatar. The New York Times reports according to U.S. officials Hamas leader in Gaza, Yahya Sinwar, has likely remained in Khan Yunis and never left for Rafah as Israel has claimed. Axios reports that Israel has proposed to Egypt and the U.S. that the PA take control of the Palestinian side of the Rafah border crossing in an unofficial capacity. According to the reports, PA president Mahmoud Abbas rejected the proposal, saying he would not allow PA officials to control the crossing unofficially. (AX 5/13)

U.S. deputy secretary of state Kurt Campbell tells Politico that he does not think Israel can obtain a “total victory” over Hamas in Gaza. National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan calls the Israeli settler looting of aid going to Gaza “a total outrage” and denies that Israel’s killing of civilians in Gaza constitutes genocide.
