In the West Bank, Israeli settlers throw stones at Palestinian vehicles traveling near Nablus, injuring one woman. Israeli settlers also assault Palestinians in Umm Safa, Madama, and Deir Balut. Elsewhere, Israeli settlers throw stones at Palestinian vehicles traveling near Khan al-Ahmar. Israeli forces shoot and injure a Palestinian man and issue demolition notices for 4 structures during a raid in Idhna. Israeli forces also assault 5 Palestinians during a raid in Kafr Qaddum. Elsewhere, Israeli forces raid Deir Balut, Madama, Sabastia, and Tell. Israeli forces also arrest 30 Palestinians during raids in and around Hebron, Nablus, Bethlehem, and Jerusalem. In East Jerusalem, Israeli settlers tour the Haram al-Sharif compound, openly praying without intervention from the Israeli police. In Gaza, Israeli forces bomb Jabalia refugee camp, Beit Hanun, Beit Lahiya, Dayr al-Balah, Rafah, Jabalia refugee camp, Nuseirat refugee camp, and Gaza City, killing at least 56 people, including 8 at a water filing station in Rafah. Israeli forces also order the evacuation of the Kamal Adwan Hospital, the Indonesian Hospital, and al-Awda Hospital in northern Gaza, saying they have 24 hours to evacuate patients and staff. Meanwhile, Israeli forces bomb al-Aqsa Martyrs’ Hospital in Dayr al-Balah, injuring a journalist, and open fire at the Kamal Adwan Hospital’s administrative offices and arrest a paramedic. Israeli forces also indiscriminately fire at Palestinians fleeing south as ordered by the Israeli military. 2 rockets are fired at Sderot; no damage is reported. In Lebanon, Israeli forces bomb Beirut, Baalbek, Aitit, Saksakiyah, Joya, Tyre, al-Nabi Shayth, Younine, Flawiye, Bodai, Wadi Umm Ali, and Arab Salim, killing at least 43 people. Israeli forces are also filmed raising an Israeli flag on the ruins of a home in Maroun al-Ras. Hezbollah forces fire rockets at Haifa. In Syria, Israeli forces bomb Damascus, killing at least 7 people. At least 10,000 people are missing in rubble. 732 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces and settlers in the West Bank and East Jerusalem since 10/7/2023, including 154 children. More than 6,315 people have been injured. Israel reports that 1,139 Israelis and foreign nationals have been killed and 5,400 have been injured in Israel since 10/7/2023, including Israeli soldiers. In addition, 348 Israeli soldiers have been killed and 2,298 injured in Gaza since the ground invasion began on 10/27/2023. Over 1.93 million Palestinians, nearly 85% of the population of Gaza, have been displaced since 10/7/2023. There has been a complete electricity blackout in Gaza since 10/12/2023 due to the Israeli blockade. The Lebanese Health Ministry says 2,083 people have been killed since 10/7/2023, including 1,473 since the middle of September. 127 children and 261 women have been killed and 9,869 have been wounded. (AJ 10/8)

Hezbollah deputy leader Naim Qassem says he supports Parliament speaker Nabih Berri’s efforts for a ceasefire in Lebanon. Qassem also says that Hezbollah will elect a new secretary-general and that its fighting capabilities are intact. (AJ, HA 10/8)

Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu claims that an Israeli airstrike assassinated Hashem Safieddine, the presumed replacement for Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, in Beirut on 10/3. Netanyahu also releases a video statement, saying Lebanon could face destruction “like Gaza.” In addition, Netanyahu reportedly bars Defense Minister Yoav Gallant from traveling to the U.S. to meet with Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin because he wants to speak with President Joe Biden before Gallant visits. The Defense Department confirms that the planned meeting is cancelled. CNN reports that the U.S. is no longer pursuing a ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah.
