The ICC issues arrest warrants for Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu, former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, and Hamas military commander Mohammed Deif. Deif is presumed to having been killed in an Israeli airstrike. The court says that there are reasonable grounds to believe that Netanyahu and Gallant “intentionally and knowingly deprived the civilian population in Gaza of objects indispensable to their survival.” The PA welcomes the decision, saying it restores hope and trust in international law. Hamas also welcomes the decision. Netanyahu’s office issues a statement calling the decision “anti-Semitic” and a “modern-day Dreyfus trial.” The U.S., Czech Republic, Argentina, and Hungary reject the arrest warrants, saying they will not adhere to the ruling. White House spokesperson Karine Jean-Pierre suggests that the U.S. is open to sanctioning the ICC over the arrest warrants for Netanyahu and Gallant. Many ICC member countries say they will adhere to the ruling, including Canada, Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium, the UK, Ireland, France, Jordan, South Africa, Sweden, Switzerland, Slovenia, and Norway.
