More than a dozen European countries express support for the Palestinians’ UN bid for statehood recognition. Israeli sources tell the media that Israeli PM Netanyahu and FM Lieberman are backing down after weeks of threats about the Palestinans’ UN bid. In the Gaza Strip, 1 Palestinian fighter dies from wounds sustained during Operation Pillar of Defense, bringing the comprehensive Palestinian death toll during the operation to 165. In 3 separate incidents, IDF troops on the Gaza border open fire on Palestinians nr. the border fence: 1 civilian is injured e. of Rafah; another Palestinian civilian is wounded nr. Bayt Hanun while he is gathering iron and gravel nr. the border fence; and 7 Palestinians are injured (1 seriously) nr. the border in the c. Gaza Strip in what the IDF claimed was an effort to approach the fence in protest. The IDF also opens fire on Palestinian fishermen at sea nr. Bayt Lahiya, causing no injuries, and detains 9 fishermen. In the West Bank, the IDF levels olive groves and demolishes agricultural structures nr. Hebron; patrols in 1 village nr. Tulkarm in the morning and in 1 village nr. Tulkarm at night; conducts house searches and arrest raids in Hebron and 2 nearby villages, and 1 village nr. Ramallah at night.
