In interviews with Israeli television, PM Benjamin Netanyahu claims that the IDF ‘‘inflicted a very heavy blow’’ on Hamas during Operation Pillar of Defense in November 2012 and that the military ‘‘is preparing to strike a stillheavier blow.’’ (ToI 12/22)
PA pres. Abbas says that the PA will not allow Israel to realize its plans for E1. In addition, Abbas tells the Fatah Advisory Council in Ramallah that if settlement construction continues he will consider dissolving the PA and asking Israel to resume full control of the West Bank. Palestinians in the West Bank hold a 2d round of municipal elections as planned (see 12/15). In the 1st round of municipal elections held 10/20/12 (see QU in JPS 166), 78 municipalities failed to field any candidate. (MNA 12/21)
