IDF reports that Hizballah carried out 1,200 attacks in 1998 compared to 715 in 1997. Despite the increase, IDF fatalities have dropped fr. 39 in 1997 to 23 in 1998. Although 1,100 of the 1998 attacks were conducted by long-range fire (compared to 550 in 1997), 16 of the 23 fatalities were caused by roadside bombs.
