On the final day of ‘Id al-Adha in East Jerusalem, Israeli police officers enter Haram al-Sharif in the morning, sparking brief clashes with stone-throwing Palestinian youths. After the clashes, the Israeli police announce restrictions on Palestinian access to the sanctuary during the 8-day Jewish holiday Sukkoth, which starts this evening and will run through 10/4: all Palestinian men under the age of 50 will be barred and all other men will have to leave their IDs at the entrances. Meanwhile, Palestinians reportedly begin stockpiling stones at the sanctuary. Throughout the day, Israeli forces conduct raids across East Jerusalem, banning 14 Palestinians from Haram al-Sharif for varying periods of time; arrest 4 Palestinian youths on late-night raids in al-Tur. For the 2d day in a row, a rocket fired from Syria lands in an open field in the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights, causing no damage or injuries. Although the IDF reports that it was errant fire from the Syrian conflict (like the rocket fire on 9/26), Israel holds the Syrian govt. responsible and fires at 2 Syrian army positions in the Syrian Golan Heights, causing damage.
