The municipality decides not to permit the construction of a new settler building in Silwan. Meanwhile, Palestinian fighters fire mortar shells at IDF troops along the border, causing some damage. Amid the violence, Israeli authorities announce that the IDF has uncovered another tunnel leading from s. Gaza into the area along Israel’s side of the border (it is set for demolition in the coming days), lift a gag order on the news that Israeli forces arrested a Hamas operative in early 4/2016 who, after interrogation, divulged key information about Hamas’s tunnel operations. Separately, Hamas officials say they have contacted Egypt, Qatar, and the UN to request mediation, and that Egyptian officials “immediately and seriously acted to restore the situation to the status quo ante.” The IDF then confirms that the Egyptians are mediating to restore calm.
