In the West Bank, 7 Palestinians were arrested during late-night raids in and around Qalqilya, Nablus, Salfit, Jericho, and Hebron. In East Jerusalem, 2 Palestinians were arrested in the Old City. In Gaza, Israeli forces struck several targets, causing damage; no injuries were reported. An IDF spokesperson said that the attack was in response to a rocket fired at Israel on 12/25. The organizing committee of the Great March of Return announced the suspension of the weekly Great March of Return protest to the end of March 2020. The announcement also declared that from April 2020, the protest would be monthly instead of weekly. (AJ, HA 12/26)

Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu won the Likud leadership primary over his rival Gideon Sa’ar with 72.5 percent of the vote. Netanyahu said in his victory speech that he would work toward U.S. recognition of Israeli sovereignty over the Jordan Valley, the Dead Sea, and all Israeli settlements in the West Bank. In the West Bank, Israeli forces seized a Palestinian-owned car during a late-night raid in Salfit. Israeli forces and Palestinians clashed at the entrance to al-‘Arub refugee camp, leading to tear-gas related injuries. 2 Palestinians were arrested during the confrontation. Another 5 Palestinians were arrested, including 4 during late-night raids in and around Hebron and 1 at a flying checkpoint near Jenin. In East Jerusalem, Israeli forces seized a Palestinian-owned vehicle in Silwan. In Gaza, Israeli forces made incursions to level land east of Bayt Hanun. In Israel, Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu was rushed offstage during a speech in Ashqelon after a rocket was fired from Gaza; the rocket was intercepted by the Iron Dome missile defense system. In the West Bank, 2 Palestinian families were notified that Israel intend to seize 4 dunums of their land in Jaba‘ for construction of a parking lot for Israeli military vehicles. A Palestinian family from Ya‘bad accused Israeli soldiers of stealing money and jewelry from their house during a late-night raid. Israeli forces also demolished 2 Palestinian-owned water tanks near Tubas and seized a cement mixer near Salfit. 12 Palestinians were arrested during late-night raids in and around Ramallah, Nablus, Jericho, and Hebron. In East Jerusalem, 2 Palestinians were detained in al-Aqsa Mosque during prayers; both were released after 5 hours of interrogation and banned from entering the mosque for 2 weeks. During a visit by the Irish minister of foreign affairs Simon Coveney to Israel, Gaza, and the West Bank, the ministry announced that Ireland was funding a $8.8 million project for construction of solar panels in Gaza in partnership with the French Development Agency. Foreign Affairs Minister Coveney met with PA prime minister Mahmoud Abbas in Ramallah during his visit. (HA, WAFA 12/3)

In France, the French parliament passed a resolution to combat anti-Semitism that included anti-Zionism and criticism of Israel. The resolution adopted the language of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance’s working definition of anti-Semitism which equates some criticism of Israel as anti-Semitic. The resolution was passed despite a petition signed by 129 Jewish and Israeli scholars warning the French parliament about equating anti-Zionism with anti-Semitism. (HA 9/4)

At the UN, 5 resolutions pertaining to Israel and Palestine passed in the General Assembly. 13 countries changed their vote, compared to previous years, on the resolution in support of the Division for Palestinian Rights of the Secretariat. The 13 countries that previously abstained on the yearly vote were Germany, the Czech Republic, Austria, Bulgaria, Denmark, Estonia, Greece, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Romania, Slovakia, Brazil, and Colombia. The vote on that resolution passed 83 to 23, with 54 abstentions. (TOI 12/4; HA 12/5)

In the West Bank, Israeli settlers raided Bayt Dajan, Qabalan, Majdal Bani Fadl near Nablus, and Kafr al-Dik near Salfit, and vandalized more than 50 Palestinian-owned vehicles, setting several on fire; settlers also wrote racist graffiti on several buildings. In Hebron, an Israeli settler assaulted 12 Palestinians. In Gaza, 1 Palestinian man succumbed to injuries he sustained during Israeli airstrikes on 11/14. This brings the comprehensive death toll in the Israeli attack on Gaza starting on 11/12 to 34. Despite the Great March of Return protest being canceled, several Palestinians protested by the Gaza fence; 1 Palestinian was shot by Israeli forces using live ammunition, others suffered tear-gas related injuries. Israeli forces separately opened fire on Palestinian farmland east of Jabalia; no injures were reported. In the West Bank, Israeli forces demolished 2 Palestinian-owned houses in Shuqba near Ramallah. 7 Palestinians were arrested in and around Hebron, Tulkarm, Nablus, and Salfit. In East Jerusalem, Israeli forces raided a Palestinian school in the Old City, alleging that the PA operates inside of the school; Israeli forces confiscated files from the building, raided and shut down Palestine TV’s office in East Jerusalem and banned it from operating for 6 months, and similarly raided and shut down for 6 months the Education and High Education Directorate in Jerusalem. 1 journalist from Palestine TV was summoned for interrogation and the head of the Education and Higher Education Directorate in Jerusalem was arrested. An Israeli border police officer was indicted for shooting a Palestinian in the back using a rubber-coated bullet at a checkpoint in the West Bank near Jerusalem “for the fun of it” on 5/25/2018. A video of the incident shows that he was slowly walking away from the officer with his hands in the air as she shot him in the back. The officer was charged with battery, hasty and negligent handling of a weapon, and obstruction of justice. (HA 11/21)

In the West Bank, Israeli forces arrested 6 Palestinians during raids in and around Bethlehem, Ramallah, and Salfit. Israeli forces also seized 4 residential tents south of Hebron. Separately, Israeli forces clashed with Palestinians in Bayt Umar; 1 Palestinian was injured by a rubber-coated bullet and 1 was arrested. In East Jerusalem, 1 Palestinian was arrested during a raid in Issawiyya. In Gaza, Israeli forces opened fire on Palestinian farmlands east of Rafah and, later, east of Khan Yunis; no injuries were reported. The head of UNRWA Pierre Krähenbühl resigned after an internal investigation into his conduct found management issues. The UN secretary general’s office appointed Christian Saunders as the officer-in-charge of UNRWA. (AJ, WAFA 11/6; WAFA 11/8)

In the West Bank, Israeli forces delivered demolition notices for 6 houses near Ramallah. 11 Palestinians were arrested during late-night raids in and around Nablus, Salfit, Qalqilya, Jenin, and Bethlehem. In East Jerusalem, Israeli forces demolished a Palestinian-owned house in al-Suwana; and demolished a shed and razed Palestinian-owned land in Issawiyya. PA Jerusalem Governor Adnan Gheith was summoned for interrogation. In Gaza, Israeli forces shot down a drone flying over Gaza. Jordan recalled its ambassador to Israel in protest over Israel holding 2 Jordanian citizens in administrative detention; 1 has been held since 8/20 and the other since 9/2. Jordan’s foreign minister Ayman al-Safadi also demanded that Israel release the 2 Jordanians, calling administrative detention illegal. (AJ, HA 10/30)

In the West Bank, Israeli settlers stole olive harvests from Palestinian farmers near Awarta. Elsewhere, in Rujib, Israeli settlers threw stones at Palestinians harvesting olives. Israeli settlers also flooded Palestinian-owned farmland with sewage discharge in Dayr al-Hatab. Israeli forces detained 12 Palestinians on their way to work in Israel at the Barta‘a crossing. Israeli forces also prevented Palestinian farmers access to their land on the other side of the separation wall near Salfit. U.S. ambassador to Israel David Friedman attended the opening of the Ariel settlement’s new medical school partly financed by American casino magnate Sheldon Adelson. Ambassador Friedman said at the opening, “A new medical school has opened in Samaria [the West Bank] . . . How many people had ever thought that those words would ever be spoken? We at the State Department are very proud to work so closely with Ariel University, along with other universities in Israel.” (JP, TOI 10/27; HA 10/28)

U.S. president Donald Trump announced that U.S. troops had killed ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi in the Idlib province of Syria. (HA 10/27)

In the West Bank, Israeli forces confiscated a water tank in Anata, halted construction for a water well in the northern Jordan Valley, and razed 30 dunams (7.4 acres) of land south of Hebron. 3 Palestinians working on restoring the water well in the Jordan Valley were arrested. Another 12 Palestinians were arrested during late-night raids in and around Tulkarm, Jenin, Qalqilya, Salfit, Ramallah, Bethlehem, and Hebron. Israeli forces also raided a cultural center near Ramallah, confiscating documents. Israeli settlers uprooted 36 olive trees near Burin. 2 Palestinians were injured by Israeli forces using rubber-coated bullets in separate incidents near checkpoints in Jenin and Tulkarm. In East Jerusalem, 4 Palestinians were arrested in al-Tur. In Gaza, 1 Palestinian who was injured during the Great March of Return prostest on 4/19 succumbed to his wounds. In the West Bank, al-Ibrahimi Mosque was closed by Israeli authorities for Palestinians from midnight to 10 p.m. 5 Palestinians were arrested, including 3 during late-night raids in and around Bethlehem; 1 was arrested at a flying checkpoint near Salfit; and 1 near al-Ibrahimi Mosque for allegedly carrying a knife. In East Jerusalem, 4 Palestinians were arrested during late-night raids in Issawiyya. Some 400 Israeli settlers, including Israeli minister of agriculture Uri Ariel, toured the Haram al-Sharif compound; Muslim worshippers were forced to leave al-Aqsa Mosque. The Palestinian man who was hospitalized after allegedly being severely beaten during interrogation by the Shin Bet on 9/29 was reported to have suffered broken ribs and kidney failure after the interrogation. The Israeli ministry of justice said it had launched an investigation into whether the Shin Bet interrogators had used “excessive force.” (HA, WAFA 9/29; AJ, HA, WAFA 9/30)

Israeli authorities imposed a closure of all entries in and out of the West Bank and Gaza for Jewish New Year celebrations. The closure will last through 10/1. (WAFA 9/29)

The German city Aachen withdrew a $10,900 prize given to the artist Walid Raad because of Raad’s support for the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement. Aachen’s mayor said in a statement, “According to research, we have to assume that the designated prizewinner is a supporter of the BDS movement and has been involved in various measures for the cultural boycott of Israel.” (ARTnews 10/1)

In the West Bank, Israeli settlers attacked Palestinian farmers and stole olives from the farmers in Dayr Sharaf near Nablus. Israeli forces clashed with Palestinians during a raid near Ramallah; tear-gas related injuries were reported and 1 glass door was damaged by a tear gas canister. Al-Ibrahimi Mosque was closed by Israeli authorities for Palestinians from midday. 18 Palestinians were arrested, including 17 during late-night raids in and around Tulkarm, Nablus, Jenin, and Bethlehem, and 1 Palestinian was arrested at a checkpoint near Salfit. In East Jerusalem, 1 Palestinian was arrested during a late-night raid in Silwan. Off the coast of Gaza, Israeli naval forces opened fire at Palestinian fishermen; no injuries were reported. In the West Bank, Israeli forces violently dispersed a protest in al-Bireh against the treatment of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails; 8 injuries were reported. Elsewhere, in Ramallah, Palestinians suffered tear-gas related injuries during an Israeli military raid. Israeli forces also arrested 27 Palestinians during late-night raids in and around Ramallah, Bethlehem, Jenin, Salfit, Qalqilya, Hebron, Abu Dis, and Tulkarm. Israeli settlers with military escort raided an archeological site in Sabastiyya and Joseph’s Tomb in Balata. In East Jerusalem, the Israeli magistrate court ordered the eviction of a Palestinian family of 13 from their home in Silwan. The lawsuit was brought by the settler organizations Ateret Cohanim and Elad. 28 Palestinians were arrested during late-night raids in and around Issawiyya and Silwan. A court in Jerusalem upheld the Israeli Coordination of Government Activities in the Territories decision not to allow the majority of players and staff of the soccer team Khadamat Rafah travel permits to the West Bank for a match in the Palestinian soccer cup championship. The match was originally scheduled for 7/3, but the players and staff had not been able to obtain the permits to travel to the West Bank for the match for more than 2 months. The winner of the final game between Khadamat Rafah and Balata FC would represent Palestine at the Asian Cup. (AP, HA 9/23; AJ 9/25)

In the West Bank, Israeli forces entered Bardala in the Jordan Valley and shut down the village’s water pipes. Israeli settlers with military escort entered a mosque in Halhul, leading to clashes with Palestinians; several Palestinians were injured by rubber-coated bullets and from tear gas inhalation. Israeli forces raided several buildings in Ramallah, including the Addameer office, and confiscated documents and computers. The raid led to clashes with Palestinians; several Palestinians were injured by rubber-coated bullets and from tear gas inhalation. Israeli forces also delivered stop-work orders for 5 residential structures and animal barns in the Jordan Valley. Israeli forces arrested 18 Palestinians during late-night raids in and around Tulkarm, Nablus, Jenin, Salfit, and Qalqilya. In the West Bank, a Palestinian man was rushed to a hospital in Ramallah after being beaten by Israeli forces at a checkpoint outside of Ramallah. Israeli forces also arrested 19 Palestinians during late-night raids in and around Hebron, Bethlehem, Nablus, Qalqilya, Tulkarm, Salfit, and Ramallah. Israeli settlers slashed tires and sprayed racist graffiti on walls in Duma village. Israeli forces razed land and demolished 1 house and 2 greenhouses in al-Walaja. In East Jerusalem, Israeli forces arrested 1 Palestinian during a late-night raid in Issawiyya. In Gaza, Israeli forces made incursions to level land east of Khan Yunis. Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in an interview with the Israeli Army Radio that he “intends to extend [Israeli] sovereignty on all the settlements and the [settlement] blocs . . . sites that have security importance or are important to Israel’s heritage.” PA prime minister Mohammed Shtayyeh said in response that the “Jordan Valley is part of Palestinian lands and any settlement or annexation is illegal,” further stating that the PA will sue Israel in international courts. In the West Bank, 5 Palestinians were arrested, including 1 during a late-night raid near Tulkarm; 3 were arrested during a daytime raid near Salfit; and 1 was arrested at a flying checkpoint near Nablus for allegedly carrying a gun. Israeli settlers attacked Palestinian homes in Hebron, smashing several windows using rocks. In East Jerusalem, 4 Palestinians were arrested during late-night raids in the Old City and Issawiyya. Israeli settlers razed land and set up caravans and construction material in Jabal al-Mintar, intending to build an illegal outpost. PA president Mahmoud Abbas issued a decision to refer a number of Palestinian judges to early retirement based on the recommendation of the Transitional Judicial Council. (WAFA 9/15)

The Israeli government approved its proposal to legalize the Mevo’ot Yeriho settlement in the Jordan Valley at a meeting in the area. Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that the final approval will be given by the next government after the Israeli elections on 9/17. Netanyahu also said that the U.S. peace plan would be released immediately after the Israeli elections. A PA presidential spokesperson criticized the Israeli decision to hold the cabinet meeting in the Jordan Valley. (HA, WAFA 9/15)

In the West Bank, Israeli forces arrested 8 Palestinians, including 7 during late-night raids in and around Qalqilya, Ramallah, Halhul, and Salfit, and 1 at a flying checkpoint in Hebron; among the arrested at a late-night raid in Ramallah was 1 Palestinian instructor from Birzeit University in Ramallah. Israeli forces also conducted house raids in Zabbuba near Jenin; no arrests were reported. Israeli settlers threw stones at Palestinian-owned vehicles travelling on a road northeast of Ramallah, causing damage. In East Jerusalem, 1 Palestinian was arrested during a late-night raid in Issawiyya. 1 Palestinian demolished his store in Silwan after receiving a demolition order by Israeli authorities. After more than 340 Palestinians had been arrested in Issawiyya in East Jerusalem during the summer, it was reported that the Israeli police, the Jerusalem Municipality, and residents of Issawiyya had come to an agreement on limiting Israeli operations in Issawiyya. The agreement includes that residents of Issawiyya cancel a school strike on 9/2, the 1st day of the school year. (HA 9/1)

According to the Palestinian Energy Authority, Qatar will be cutting the amount of fuel it funds for Gaza by 50 percent, causing the hours of electricity available in Gaza to drop from 8 hours per day to 5 or 6. (HA 9/1)

At a visit to the Israeli settlement of Elkana, Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that that he aspires to apply Israeli sovereignty to all Jewish settlements in the West Bank. Netanyahu’s announcement comes 2 weeks before the Israeli general election. (AJ, HA, WAFA, WAFA 9/1)

The al-Kasom Regional Council in the Negev, which presides over a large Bedouin community, announced that 17,000 students would not start the school year as planned on 9/2 as the Israeli education ministry had not given it enough money to begin the school year as planned. (HA 9/1)

Israeli forces and Hezbollah operatives exchanged missiles near the border of Israel and Lebanon. According to Hezbollah, it fired anti-tank missiles at Israeli military vehicles. The Israeli military and Prime Minister Netanyahu announced that it had hit the Hezbollah cell that fired the anti-tank missiles with “100 shells, aerial fire and various measures.” (HA 9/1; AJ, AJ, HA 9/2; HA 9/4)

In the West Bank, 10 Palestinians were arrested during late-night raids in and around Bethlehem, Ramallah, Salfit, and Tulkarm. Israeli forces also raided Beitunia in Area A, seizing footage from surveillance cameras; the raid led to clashes with local residents. In East Jerusalem, Israeli forces clashed with local residents and Israeli activists after raiding Issawiyya. The Lebanese army opened fire on 3 Israeli drones in Lebanese airspace. All 3 drones returned to Israel after being fired at. (HA 8/28)

In the West Bank, Israeli forces claimed to have found an explosive device near Nablus. Israeli forces also demolished a Palestinian-owned house and restaurant in Bayt Jala near Bethlehem. 25 Palestinians were arrested by Israeli forces during late-night raids in and around Ramallah, Abu Dis, Nablus, Jenin, and Salfit. In Gaza, 3 rockets were launched toward Israel, causing no damage. Later, Israel struck targets east of Bayt Lahiya allegedly belonging to Hamas; damage was reported but no injuries. Hamas later denied responsibility for the rockets launched. Off the coast of Gaza, Israeli forces opened fired on Palestinian fishermen 3 nautical miles from the shore of Bayt Lahiya; no injuries were reported. Israel’s prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced via Twitter that 300 new settlement units in the Dolev settlement would be sent for approval to the Planning Committee. Prime Minister Netanyahu also announced that Israel was cutting allowed oil imports to Gaza by 50% after rockets were fired at Israel. (HA, Twitter, WAFA 8/26)

It was reported by the Lebanese state-run media outlet National News Agency that Israel attacked a base for the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine – General Command with 3 missiles in Qusaya in Northern Lebanon, causing damage to structures but no injuries. Lebanon’s president Michel Aoun also said of the Israeli strike against Hezbollah in Beirut on 8/25 that it was a declaration of war on Lebanon. (AJ, BBC, REU, WAFA 8/26; HA 8/27)

Iraqi president Barham Salih and prime minister Adel Abdul-Mahdi condemned Israel’s attack on Iraqi groups on 8/25, calling it an “attack on Iraqi sovereignty.” The U.S. Department of Defense issued a statement opposing Israel’s attacks in Iraq, saying that the U.S. supports Iraqi sovereignty and opposes “external actors” operating in Iraq. In the West Bank, Israeli settlers wrote racist graffiti and slashed tires on 5 Palestinian-owned vehicles in Haris near Salfit. Israeli forces handed demolition notices for some 20 Palestinian-owned structures in Qalandia and demolished a water well in the northern Jordan Valley. Israeli forces arrested 4 Palestinians, including a 13-year old girl, at the Allenby bridge crossing, in Qalqilya and Salfit. In East Jerusalem, Israeli forces demolished a building in Bayt Hanina. Israeli forces also arrested 4 Palestinians during late-night raids in Shu‘fat refugee camp. In the West Bank, Israeli forces demolished a car wash and a carpentry shop in Kafr Haris near Salfit. Israeli forces also razed farmland in al-Buqa‘a near Hebron. In East Jerusalem, 7 Palestinians were arrested during late-night raids in Issawiyya. In Israel, Israeli forces demolished the bedouin village al-‘Araqib for the 148th time. PA president Mahmoud Abbas tweeted that the PA is ending all agreements signed with Israel, including security cooperation. The announcement came after Israel’s continued holding back of Palestinian tax revenue and demolition of 13 apartment buildings in Areas A and B on 7/22. Before Abbas’s announcement, the PA’s prime minister Mohammed Shtayyeh said that the division between Areas A, B, and C no longer exists, as Israel violated PA sovereignty in Area A on 7/22. In the West Bank, Israeli forces demolished part of a house, a car wash, and another small structure in al-Jib. Israeli forces also razed land and set up caravans in Huwwara. Israeli settlers set up mobile homes on Palestinian-owned land near the Maskiyot settlement in the Jordan Valley. 8 Palestinians were arrested during late-night raids in and around Salfit, Jenin, and Bethlehem. In the raid near Bethlehem, Israeli forces clashed with local residents, leaving 1 Palestinian injured by live ammunition. In East Jerusalem, Israeli forces demolished a car wash in Sur al-Bahir, a commercial structure in Bayt Hanina, and 4 commercial structures in Silwan. Several heads of international organizations such as the UN, the World Bank, and the UNRWA called for Israel to halt planned demolitions of 10 residential buildings in Sur al-Bahir in East Jerusalem. The buildings are scheduled to be demolished on 7/18. (WAFA 7/17)

U.S. special representative for international negotiations Jason Greenblatt said in an interview with PBS that he rejects the term “occupied” to describe the West Bank, saying that, “Judea and Samaria . . . is disputed” rather than occupied. Of illegal Israeli settlement, Greenblatt said, “I don’t even like the word settlement. I think it’s a pejorative term. I use the term neighborhoods and cities.” (PBS 7/17; HA 7/18)

In the West Bank, 2 Palestinians were arrested during the day: 1 during a raid near Bethlehem and 1 at a military checkpoint in Hebron. Later, during late-night raids, Israeli forces arrested 11 Palestinians in and around Jenin, Qalqilya, Tulkarm, Salfit, Ramallah, and al-Bireh. Israeli forces shot a Palestinian citizen of Israel at a temporary military checkpoint near Tulkarm. The man was not arrested by Israeli forces and said it opened an investigation into the incident. In the West Bank, Israeli forces arrested 14 Palestinians during late-night raids in and around Ramallah, Birzeit, Hebron, Qalqilya, Salfit, and Bethlehem. 7 of the arrested were students at Birzeit University. Additionally, 2 Palestinians were run over by Israeli forces and detained near Jenin. Elsewhere, near Nablus, Israeli settlers toured the Sabastiyya archeological site with Israeli military protection for the 2d day in a row. In al-Jalama near Jenin, Israeli forces handed out stop-work notices for 3 houses and an industrial facility. In East Jerusalem, Israeli forces arrested 15 Palestinians during late-night raids. Israeli authorities handed over the body of the Palestinian who was killed on 6/27 by Israeli forces in Issawiyya. In Gaza, Israel returned a number of fishing boats belonging to Palestinian fishermen in Gaza after the Israeli high court ruled that Israel needed to return the boats it had kept for up to 3 years. In the West Bank, Israeli settlers vandalized 10 vehicles and sprayed graffiti reading “non-Jews=enemies” on private homes in Sarta near the settlements of Barkan and Revava. Israeli forces demolished a structure under construction in Anata northeast of Jerusalem. The demolition led to clashes with local Palestinians, causing tear gas inhalation injuries. In Dayr Balut near Salfit, Israeli forces demolished 2 caravans and a car wash. 15 Palestinians were arrested during late-night raids in and around Jenin, Ramallah, Nablus, and Tubas. The Israeli foreign ministry reprimanded the Chilean ambassador to Israel after the Chilean president Sebastián Pinera visited the Haram al-Sharif compound with PA officials on 6/25. The Israeli foreign minister Yisrael Katz called the tour of the East Jerusalem holy site a “violation of Israel’s sovereignty on the Temple Mount.” (HA 6/26)

For the 2d day in a row, officials and businesspeople from the Middle East, Europe, and the U.S. met in Bahrain for the Peace to Prosperity workshop. It was reported that 15 Palestinian businesspeople showed up despite the Palestinian-announced boycott. 1 Palestinian spoke at the conference. The Lebanese prime minister Saad al-Hariri said that his government and the Lebanese parliament oppose the U.S. peace plan. It is believed that $6 billion is set aside for Lebanon to permanently settle Palestinian refugees in Lebanon. Hariri stipulated that, “our constitution bans naturalization.” No Lebanese representative participated in the workshop. (HA, HA, HA 6/26)

In Tarqumiyya, Israeli forces demolished a greenhouse and razed land belonging to 2 Palestinian families. In Kafr Haris near Salfit, Israeli settlers injured a Palestinian while throwing stones at his house. In a separate incident, Israeli settlers ignited 2 Palestinian-owned olive groves in Madama. 8 Palestinians were arrested during late-night raids in and around Ramallah, Nablus, Bethlehem, and Qalqilya. In East Jerusalem, 3 Palestinians were wounded and 1 arrested during an Israeli raid in Issawiyya. A 60-year-old man died of wounds sustained after being beaten by Israeli forces earlier in June. In the West Bank, Israeli forces demolished 6 residential tents, 6 livestock enclosures, 2 animal barns, 45 water barrels, and solar panels belonging to 2 Palestinian families in the Ras al-Ahmar area of the Jordan Valley. In Umm al-Khair south of Hebron, Israeli forces demolished a residential structure. 10 Palestinians were arrested during late-night raids in and around Bethlehem, Hebron, and Salfit. In Gaza, Israeli authorities closed the Gaza fishing zone after 5 fires broke out in southern Israel. Israeli authorities claimed that the fires were ignited by incendiary balloons from Gaza. After closing the fishing zone, Israeli forces claimed to have intercepted a rocket fired from Gaza and subsequently struck targets in Gaza. In the West Bank, 7 Palestinians were arrested by Israeli forces during late-night raids in and around Hebron, Bethlehem, Salfit, and Jenin. In East Jerusalem, large-scale house raids were carried out by Israeli forces; no arrests were reported. In the West Bank, 3 Israeli activists were detained by Israeli soldiers near an Israeli military base in the Jordan Valley. The 3 activists were looking for a Palestinian shepherd arrested by Israeli soldiers earlier in the day. Israeli forces also arrested 21 Palestinians during late-night raids in and around Hizma, Hebron, Nablus, Urif, Salfit, Tulkarm, and Jenin. The Greek Orthodox, Catholic, and Armenian churches said in a joint statement that they agreed to a multi-million-dollar project to restore the foundations and flooring of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in East Jerusalem. King Abdullah of Jordan and the Vatican pledged to help finance the restoration project. (HA 5/30)

Israel struck targets in Syria and Lebanon. An Israeli drone 1st struck a surveillance system in Lebanon. Later, Israel struck a target in Quneitra after an anti-aircraft missile was launched from Syria at an Israeli jet that was flying over Syrian airspace. 1 Syrian was killed and 2 others were injured. In the West Bank, Israeli forces confiscated a residential tent in Susiya near Hebron. Israeli settlers painted racist graffiti on several Palestinian-owned vehicles near Salfit. In East Jerusalem, Israeli forces sealed off the main entrance to Issawiya. Israeli forces also assaulted 2 Palestinians, resulting in hospitalization for medical treatment. Off the coast of Gaza, Israeli naval forces fired at Palestinian fishermen. Israeli authorities also reduced the fishing zone from 12 nautical miles to 5 nautical miles. Facebook announced that it had closed 65 Facebook accounts, 161 Pages, 23 Groups, 12 events, and 4 Instagram accounts originating from “Israel and focused on Nigeria, Senegal, Togo, Angola, Niger and Tunisia,” along with some countries in Latin America and Southeast Asia. The social media activity sought to influence politics in these countries. Facebook said that $812,000 had been spent on ads promoting related material. (Facebook 5/16)

A Jerusalem court ordered the eviction of Israeli settlers from a Palestinian home in Hebron that was acquired by the Israeli settlers on forged documents. The Palestinian family’s home was taken over by settlers in 2005 and the legal proceedings were ongoing since 2007. The Israeli settlers appealed the court’s decision which also stipulated that the settlers must pay the Palestinian family $161,000. Elsewhere in the West Bank, Israeli forces sealed off the al-Ibrahimi Mosque for Muslim worshippers in preparation for Passover celebrations. Israeli forces also arrested 18 Palestinians during late-night raids in and around Bethlehem, Hebron, Jenin, Salfit, and Ramallah. In the raid near Jenin, Israeli forces fired tear gas, causing dozens of residents to suffer from tear gas inhalation. In East Jerusalem, 170 right-wing Israelis, led by Minister of Agriculture Uri Ariel, stormed Haram al-Sharif with Israeli police escort. In Gaza, a prosthetic hospital was inaugurated to help the many Palestinians in Gaza who have lost limbs. The hospital’s expenses are covered by the Qatar Fund for Development. A day after Israel denied access of Christian Palestinians in Gaza to the West Bank and East Jerusalem for Easter celebrations, Israeli authorities reversed its position, allowing 500 Christians to enter the West Bank and East Jerusalem. Elsewhere in Gaza, Israeli forces opened fire against Palestinian farmers near Rafah and on Palestinian fishermen off the coast of Rafah; no injuries were reported.
