In the West Bank, Israeli settlers shot and killed a Palestinian in Huwwara as Israeli settlers with a military escort, including MK Zvi Sukkot, raided the town at night. 51 Palestinians were injured, including 42 by tear gas, and settlers vandalized Palestinian property. The PA condemned the raid, saying Israel and the U.S. were responsible. Israeli national security minister Itamar Ben-Gvir said of the raid on X, “Our lives take priority to the Palestinians’ freedom of movement (and commerce).” Israeli settlers, including MK Limor Son-Harmelech, raided Jabel ‘Aybal in Area B near Nablus for the fifth day in a row. Settlers first toured the site on 10/2 with a military escort but since then have toured it without military involvement. Son-Harmelech called on the Israeli government to create a settlement at the site. Elsewhere, Israeli settlers vandalized 40 olive trees and stole the olive harvest in Yasuf. Israeli settlers also fired live ammunition at Palestinian motorists near Turmus ‘Ayya and threw stones at Palestinians at the DCO checkpoint near al-Bireh, causing damage. Israeli forces violently dispersed the funeral procession for the Palestinian who was killed in Huwwara in the early hours of the day, injuring 1 person with live ammunition, 1 with a baton round, and others with tear gas. Israeli forces also violently dispersed Palestinian protesters in Kafr Qaddum, injuring a journalist with a baton round and others with tear gas. Elsewhere, Israeli forces violently dispersed Palestinian protesters in Bayt Dajan, causing tear-gas related injuries. Israel closed all crossings to the West Bank and Gaza for the Israeli holiday of Simhat Torah. The crossings are scheduled to reopen at the end of 10/7. (HA 10/6)

In the West Bank, the body of 1 Druze citizen of Israel was kidnapped for a 2nd time after it was arranged that the body would be transferred to Israel in a Red Crescent ambulance. The ambulance was stopped by armed men and the body taken to an unknown location. The Druze man was taken from a hospital in Jenin on 11/22. Hundreds of Palestinians marched in Jenin calling for the release of the body to his family. 1 Palestinian man succumbed to injuries sustained by Israeli live fire during a raid in Nablus in July. Israeli settlers threw stones at Palestinian vehicles near al-Bireh, causing damage. Israeli settlers also set fire to 1 Palestinian vehicle and threw stones at a house in Burin, causing damage. Elsewhere, Israeli settlers threw stones at Palestinian vehicles traveling near Huwwara, causing damage. Israeli forces shot and killed 1 Palestinian minor during a raid in Nablus and injured 4 others. Israeli forces also demolished 1 Palestinian school serving 22 Palestinian children in the Masafer Yatta area. Elsewhere, the Israeli Nature Authority seized 12 Palestinian-owned cows near Umm al-Ghabar in the Jordan Valley. Israeli forces delivered stop-work orders against 11 residential structures and ordered the demolition of 20 agricultural structures near Jericho, delivered stop-work orders against 2 houses in ‘Azzun, a demolition notice against a house under construction in Forush Bayt Dajan, and demolished 1 house in al-Khader. Meanwhile, Israeli forces closed the Jalameh checkpoint. 3 Palestinians were arrested during late-night raids in Ya‘bad, Bir al-Basha, and Fahma. In Jerusalem, 2 bombs went off at a bus stop in Givat Shaul, killing 1 Canadian Israeli minor and injuring 22 others. No one took responsibility for the attack. 1 Israeli man later succumbed to his wounds on 11/26, raising the death toll to 2. Itamar Ben-Gvir, who is slated to become the next Israeli public security minister, called for collective punishment of towns and villages where alleged Palestinian attackers are from and for assassinations of Palestinian members of militant groups. (HA, MEMO 11/23)

In the West Bank, Israeli settler set up a mobile home on Palestinian land east of Hebron. Israeli forces violently dispersed an anti-settlement protest in al-Mughayyir, leading to tear-gas related injuries. Israeli forces also violently dispersed anti-settlement protests in Kafr Qaddum, leading to tear-gas related injuries. Elsewhere, Israeli forces violently dispersed Palestinians at an olive tree planting event in Bayt Dajan, injuring 2 with rubber-coated bullets while 15 others suffered tear-gas related injuries. Israeli forces also denied Palestinians access to their land near Salfit. Palestinians clashed with PA security forces during several demonstrations against COVID-19 lockdown restrictions in and around Hebron, leading to tear-gas related injuries. 6 Palestinians were arrested during raids in and around Nablus, al-Bireh, al-‘Izzariya, Luban al-Sharqiyya, and Huwwara. In East Jerusalem, 4 Palestinians were arrested during late-night raids in the Old City and Issawiyya. 1 Palestinian man died of wounds sustained after being shot by Israeli forces at the Qalandia checkpoint on 8/16. The man, who had a hearing disability, was shot after he did not stop when told by Israeli forces. (WAFA 12/11; PCHR 12/17)

A member of Hezbollah was sentenced to 5 consecutive life sentences for killing former Lebanese prime minister Rafik Hariri and 21 others in 2005. The man, Salim Jamil Ayyash, was sentenced in absentia by the UN-backed Lebanon Tribunal. (AJ, HA, REU 12/11)

A group of 22 Republican members of the U.S. House sent a letter to U.S. president Donald Trump urging the president to declassify a State Department report mandated by Congress in 2012 that distinguishes between Palestinian refugees born in Palestine before 1948 and those born outside of Palestine. The 22 Republicans said in the letter that they do not believe that descendants of Palestinian refugees born in Palestine before 1948 can be considered refugees and called the Right of Return a “fiction” that should “end.” (Rep. In the West Bank, Israeli forces destroyed a water pipeline supplying the village of Bayt Dajan east of Nablus. Israeli forces also demolished an animal barn near Yatta in a confrontation with local Palestinians protesting the demolishing; several Palestinians were injured. Late at night, Israeli settlers with Israeli military escort stormed ‘Urif near Nablus. Several Palestinians were injured, and 1 Palestinian-owned vehicle was vandalized. Israeli forces imposed a curfew on Huwwara after a Palestinian allegedly attempted to stab an Israeli settler; Palestinian teens were also reported to have been throwing rocks at an Israeli settler vehicle. The PA returned the full amount of the deducted tax revenue Israel transferred to the PA. The PA have on several occasions reiterated that it would not accept any tax revenue transfer that is not the full amount. Israel has deducted the PA tax revenue because the PA pays stipends to Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails and their families. (HA, MNA 5/3)

PA minister of Information Nabil Abu Rudayna reiterated that the PA leadership would not partake in any conference related to a peace plan that is not within the framework of international law and the Arab Peace Initiative. (WAFA 5/2)

The PA minister for Women’s Affairs Amal Hamad was refused entry to Jordan by Israeli authorities. She was traveling to Jordan to attend a Euro-Mediterranean conference for regional cooperation for zero tolerance for violence against women and girls. (MEMO, WAFA 5/2; MNA 5/3)

Hamas and Islamic Jihad in Palestine (PIJ) condemned the Israeli attack on Gaza on 5/1. A PIJ official warned that any further aggression would be responded to with hits on Israel’s “biggest cities.” (HA 5/2)

In an interview at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy, U.S. president Donald Trump’s son in-law and senior adviser Jared Kushner said in response to a question of why the U.S. administration had not taken a position on the 2-state solution, that, “[i]f you say ‘two-state’, it means one thing to Israelis and another to Palestinians, so we told ourselves—let’s try not to say it.” (AJ, HA 5/3)
