In the West Bank, stone-throwing Israeli settlers attacked Palestinians in Asira, injuring 1 Palestinian. Israeli settlers also attacked Palestinian shepherds east of Yatta; no major injuries were reported. Elsewhere, Israeli settlers vandalized Palestinian-owned olive trees in Jalud. In Gaza, Israeli forces opened fire at agricultural lands east of Khuza‘a; no injuries were reported. In Israel, thousands of protesters continued the weekly demonstrations against Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu, demanding his resignation. This marked the 18th Saturday in a row that thousands of Israelis have been protesting outside of Netanyahu’s official residence. (HA 10/24)

Former Sudanese prime minister and leader of the country’s biggest political party Sadiq al-Mahdi denounced Sudan’s planned normalization with Israel announced on 10/23, saying that the deal “contributes to the elimination of the peace project in the Middle East and to preparing for the ignition of a new war.” Many other Sudanese parties and politicians spoke out against the normalization deal. In the West Bank, stone-throwing Israeli settlers injured 1 Palestinian travelling in his car near Burin. Israeli forces arrested 3 Palestinians during raids near Jenin. In Gaza, incendiary balloons were sent to Israel, sparking fires; Israel claimed Palestinians had fired at Israeli soldiers near the Gaza fence. Israel fired missiles at Gaza in 2 separate instances; no injuries were reported on either side. Israeli forces also opened fire on Palestinian agricultural lands east of Bayt Lahiya, Khuza‘a, al-Maghazi, and Dayr al-Balah; no injuries were reported. In the West Bank, Israeli settlers injured 2 Palestinians while throwing stones at a Palestinian-owned house in Yatma. Separately, Israeli settlers set fire to Palestinian-owned agricultural lands east of Tulkarm, damaging olive and almond trees. Israeli forces also confiscated 1 residential caravan in Bayt Dajan. 26 Palestinians were arrested during raids in and around Bayt Umar, Dura, Hebron, Bethlehem, Ramallah, Ya‘bad, Jenin, Nablus, and Qalqilya. During a raid near Ramallah, 1 Palestinian was injured by a rubber-coated bullet; 1 other Palestinian was injured by gunfire in Qalqilya, and clashes erupted during a raid in Ya‘bad; no injuries were reported there. In East Jerusalem, 3 Palestinians were injured in 2 separate attacks by unidentified perpetrators; 1 4-year-old girl was hit in the head by a bullet in Issawiyya and 1 man and his child were shot while working in a store in Shu‘fat. 1 Palestinian was arrested in Issawiyya. The PA formally informed Israel’s Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories and the CIA that it was no longer participating in security coordination and intelligence sharing. PA forces also left Area B which, like Area C, is under Israeli military control. PA prime minister Mohammed Shtayyeh also said that the PA would not accept COVID-19-related aid sent from UAE on a direct plane to Israel landing on 5/20, noting that the PA had not been informed about the shipment before it took off. All the COVID-19 material will instead go to Gaza, which witnessed 29 new confirmed COVID-19 cases today. (AJ, HA, HA, REU 5/21)

18 Democratic senators signed a letter addressed to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Benny Gantz, warning that annexation of parts of the West Bank “would betray our shared democratic values by denying Palestinians’ right to self-determination in a viable, sovereign, independent and contiguous state.” It further stated that annexation would likely erode the American people’s support for the U.S.-Israeli special relationship. In the West Bank, Israeli settlers attacked 1 Palestinian shepherd and stole 2 sheep south of Hebron. Israeli forces injured 1 Palestinian man with live ammunition by the separation wall north of Qalqilya. Israeli forces also delivered 1 demolition order for a house under construction in al-Khadir. 9 Palestinians were arrested, including 8 during late-night raids in and around Nahalin, Ya‘bad, Far‘un, and Hebron; 1 was shot and injured before being arrested near Taqqua after allegedly throwing stones at settler vehicles. During a separate raid in Kobar, 1 Palestinian was injured by live ammunition. In East Jerusalem, 1 Palestinian woman from Silwan died of the COVID-19 virus; she is the 2d Palestinian to succumb to the virus in East Jerusalem. Israel ordered PA police not to enter Kafr ‘Aqab, which is located within East Jerusalem but on the West Bank side of the separation wall, after local activists requested the PA police to help enforce a lockdown. Israel has not been helping local authorities impose the lockdown. Off the coast of Gaza, Israeli naval forces opened fire on Palestinian fishermen, injuring 1 with a rubber-coated bullet to his head and damaging 1 boat. In Gaza, Israeli forces opened fire on Palestinian farmers near Khuza‘a and made incursions to level land east of Jabalia. In the West Bank, Israeli settlers razed Palestinian-owned tracts of land in Qusra, using bulldozers. 8 Palestinians were arrested, including 5 during late-night raids in and around Tulkarm, al-Bireh, Jenin, and Jericho; 3, all minors, were arrested after allegedly throwing stones at Israeli forces near Qalqilya. In East Jerusalem, 3 were arrested during late-night raids in the Old City. In Gaza, Israeli forces opened fire on Palestinian agricultural lands east of Khan Yunis and east of Rafah; no injuries were reported. (WAFA 3/1; PCHR 3/5)

In the West Bank, Israeli forces attacked Palestinian protesters throwing stones in Kafr Qaddum by using a bulldozer to push large stones downhill toward the protesters, 1 Palestinian was hospitalized after being hit by 1 of the stones. Israeli forces also violently dispersed Palestinians protesting the U.S. administration’s peace plan in and around Beita, Nablus, Jenin, Qalqilya, al-Fawar refugee camp, and Bil‘in, leading to tear-gas related injuries. Israeli armed settlers attacked Palestinians in al-‘Awja, injuring 2 Palestinians who were taken to a hospital in Jericho. Israeli settlers also toured 2 Palestinian villages near Tubas; before the settlers arrived, Israeli forces had sealed off a main checkpoint in the area to prevent the movement of Palestinians. Qatar announced that it would increase its aid to Gaza by $15 million after a meeting between Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar and Qatari envoy Mohammed al-Emadi. Part of the aid package provides some 120,000 Palestinian families in Gaza $100 by the end of February and $24 million would be spent on building a new hospital in Rafah. (HA 2/22)
