Occupied Palestine/Israel: Israeli High Court delays deportation of Palestinian activist Mubarak 'Awad pending his appeal hearing. Reports indicate 'Awad has been on hunger strike since his arrest 5/5 [WP 5/9]. Authorities begin cutting off electricity to Palestinian villages which have not paid their bills; water is cut off in Attil village near Tulkarm and Nablus-area villages of Bidiya and Yutma [FJ 5/15].

Arab World: Mahmud 'Abbas (Abu Mazin) leaves Amman after 2 days of talks with Jordanian officials [FJ 5/15].

Other Countries: F.M. Peres meets with senior Hungarian officials in Budapest [WP 5/9].

Occupied Palestine/Israel: Army imposes curfews in Jabalya camp and 'Abasan village in Gaza Strip following protests. Demonstrators throw stones in Ramallah and Jenin [FJ 5/15].

Occupied PalestinelIsrael: In village of Bayta, south of Nablus, 2 Palestinians and 1 Israeli are killed in clash between villagers and 16 youths and 2 adult guards from Jewish settlement of Elon Moreh; 1 guard is seriously wounded. Officials announce Jewish girl was stoned to death [WP 4/7]. Sec. of State George Shultz leaves Israel [WP 4/7]. Shop owners in Bayt Sahur, near Bethlehem, are fined and their IDs confiscated for opening their stores in the morning [FJ 4/10].

Arab World: Sec. of State Shultz travels to Cairo for meeting with Pres. Husni Mubarak before flying to Amman for talks with Jordan's King Hussein [WP 4/7]. Estimated 800 Palestinians demonstrate illegally in Amman streets to protest Shultz visit [NYT 4/7].

Military Action

Occupied Palestine/Israel: In Nablus, Palestinian is injured while allegedly trying to disarm soldier. Curfews continue in many northern W. Bank areas, including Qabatiyyah, Jalazun camp, Am'ari camp, and Balatah camp [FJ 4/10].

Occupied Palestine/Israel: Dozens of Palestinian activitists are reported arrested [WP 3/21]. In interview with Radio Israel, Yossi Ben Aharon, aide to P.M. Shamir, says "possibility always exists" that Israel might strike Saudi Arabian missile sites [WP 3/23]. Two Palestinians die of wounds sustained in earlier clashes: Silwad village resident injured 3/14 and Nazlat 'Isa resident injured 3/16 [FJ 3/27]. Neteuri Karta movement donates $6,000 to 2 Palestinian hospitals in W. Bank [FJ 3/27].

Arab World: U.S. envoy Philip Habib meets with Egypt's Pres. Mubarak in Cairo before flying to Amman for talks with Jordanian officials [LAT 3/21].

Occupied Palestine/Israel: In Bethlehem, Israeli soldier guarding govemment office building is gunned down. Assailant escapes [WP 3/21]. Troops close several framers markets in occupied territories [WP 3/21]. In 'Ubaydiyyah, near Bethlehem, Israeli soldiers demolish 2 houses whose owners are suspected of attacking collaborator. Authorities also demolish 3 houses in Silat al-Harthiyyah village whose owners firebombed an Israeli patrol. At least 2 demonstrators are injured during fierce demonstrations in Rafah's Shabura neighborhood. Several protesters are injured in clashes on W. Bank. Bethlehem and 'Azzah camp are under curfew. Yamun and Bani Na'im villages are sealed [FJ 3/27].

Occupied Palestine/Israel: Shin Bet arrests 2 American schoolteachers in Ramallah on charges of possessing "inciteful materials" [LAT 2/29].

Arab World: PLO Chairman Yasir Arafat says he is submitting to U.S. names of Palestinians with whom Sec. of State Shultz can meet [NYT 2/28]. Sec. Shultz meets with Syrian f.m. Faruq al-Shar' and Pres. Hafiz al-Asad in Damascus and with Jordanian p.m. Zayd Rifa'i and Crown Prince Hasan in Amman to discuss new U. S. peace proposals [NYT 2/28]. Syria and Jordan restate their support for UN-sponsored international conference [WP 2/28].

Other Countries: Estimated 4,000 participate in Amsterdam march protesting Israeli policies in occupied territories [FJ 3/13].

Military Action

Occupied Palestine/Israel: Cashes between IDF troops and worshipers outside mosque and hospital in Halhul result in 1 dead, at least 5 injured by tear gas inhalation and live ammunition [NYT 2/28]. Troops use tear gas, rubber bullets, and live ammunition in effort to disperse crowds from nearby 'Arrub camp blocking Jerusalem-Hebron highway; 1 is killed, and 4 wounded. Towns along road are ordered under curfew [WP 2/28]. In 'Ubaydiyyah, soldiers impose curfew, arrest 32 [FJ 2/28]. Curfew is also imposed in Jabalya, 'Arrub, and Burayj camps [FJ 2/28].
