Israeli forces also fired tear gas at Palestinian security and emergency crews looking for Palestinians returning from Israel near Qalqilya. PA president Mahmoud Abbas issued a decree extending the state of emergency for another 30 days. The PA also introduced new measures to curb the spread of the COVID-19 virus, including restricting movement in West Bank cities between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. and forcing shops to close after 5 p.m. The extended state of emergency and new measures were introduced as 171 Palestinians had tested positive for COVID-19. In the West Bank, Israeli forces demolished a shed in al-Zawiya. In Gaza, Israel struck targets belonging to Hamas after a rocket was fired at Israel. Israeli authorities said it believed that Hamas operatives did not fire the rocket. In a letter to the U.S. State Department, 6 senators from the Democratic Party urged the Trump administration to release the funds allocated to humanitarian aid for Palestinians by U.S. congress to help curb the spread of the COVID-19 virus. Congress had allocated $75 million in aid to Palestinians for the 2020 fiscal year. The 6 senators who signed the letter were Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), Chris Van Hollen (D-MD), Sherrod Brown (D-OH), Patrick Leahy (D-VT), Tom Udall (D-NM), Tom Carper (D-DE), Jeff Merkley (D-OR), and Bernie Sanders (D-VT). In the West Bank, Israeli forces violently dispersed the weekly anti-settlement protest in Kafr Qaddum, injuring 2 using rubber-coated bullets. At least 17 others suffered tear-gas related injuries. In East Jerusalem, 1 Palestinian family demolished their own home in Shu‘fat refugee camp to avoid exorbitant Israeli demolition fees. Israeli forces violently dispersed a protest in Silwan. In the West Bank, some 190 Palestinians were injured by Israeli forces as they were protesting Israeli settler incursions in Beita, including at least 1 by live ammunition, 53 by rubber-coated bullets, and other by tear gas inhalation; 2 Israeli soldiers were lightly wounded by stone throwers. Israeli forces also injured 6 Palestinians using rubber-coated bullets and tear gas during the weekly anti-settlement protest in Kafr Qaddum. Israeli settlers raided Huwwara, leading to confrontations with local Palestinians; some 20 vehicles were damaged and several stores had their windows broken. Israeli forces broke up the confrontation; however Israeli settlers returned to the village until the Israeli forces again removed them. 6 Palestinians were arrested, including 4 during late-night raids in and around Tulkarm, Qalandia, and Hebron; and 2 during a raid near Nablus. In the West Bank, Israeli forces attacked Palestinian protesters throwing stones in Kafr Qaddum by using a bulldozer to push large stones downhill toward the protesters, 1 Palestinian was hospitalized after being hit by 1 of the stones. Israeli forces also violently dispersed Palestinians protesting the U.S. administration’s peace plan in and around Beita, Nablus, Jenin, Qalqilya, al-Fawar refugee camp, and Bil‘in, leading to tear-gas related injuries. Israeli armed settlers attacked Palestinians in al-‘Awja, injuring 2 Palestinians who were taken to a hospital in Jericho. Israeli settlers also toured 2 Palestinian villages near Tubas; before the settlers arrived, Israeli forces had sealed off a main checkpoint in the area to prevent the movement of Palestinians. Qatar announced that it would increase its aid to Gaza by $15 million after a meeting between Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar and Qatari envoy Mohammed al-Emadi. Part of the aid package provides some 120,000 Palestinian families in Gaza $100 by the end of February and $24 million would be spent on building a new hospital in Rafah. (HA 2/22)

In the West Bank, Israeli forces prevented some 200 Israeli activists from helping Palestinians plant trees in Yasuf village. 2 Israeli organizations, Rabbis for Human Rights and Zazim, had planned to help the Palestinians who had many trees vandalized during the harvesting season. Israeli forces violently dispersed Palestinians protesting the U.S. administration’s peace plan in and around Qalqilya, Kafr Qaddum, Qiffin, ‘Azun, and Ramallah; 2 Palestinians were injured by live ammunition, 1 was hit by a tear gas canister to the head and other suffered tear-gas related injuries. Israeli forces also clashed with Palestinians during raids in Dura and Bayt Umar, causing tear-gas related injuries. 4 Palestinians were arrested at checkpoints near Nablus and al-‘Arub refugee camp. In East Jerusalem, Israeli forces injured 1 Palestinian in Issawiyya during a raid. In Gaza, Israeli forces opened fire on Palestinian agricultural land east of Dayr al-Balah; no injuries were reported. According to Israeli officials, Hamas has informed Israel that it will halt all launchings of rockets and incendiary balloons. The official said that if Hamas keeps its promise, Israel would expand the fishing zone and allow 500 permits for Palestinian businesspeople in Gaza. (HA 2/13)

The UN Human Rights Office of the High Commissioner released the UN database of companies with ties to Israeli settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem. The long-awaited list included 112 business, 94 in Israel and 18 in 6 other countries. Among the companies are Airbnb, Booking.com, Expedia, Motorola Solutions, and Tripadvisor. In the West Bank, Israeli forces violently dispersed the weekly anti-settlement protest in Kafr Qaddum, injuring 2 Palestinians with rubber-coated bullets. Israeli forces also confiscated a bulldozer belonging to the Taqqua municipality. Israeli settlers assaulted a Palestinian man on his land in Baytin and smashed the windshields of 3 Palestinian-owned cars in the area. In East Jerusalem, 1 Palestinian was arrested during a house raid in Issawiyya. An Israeli court ordered the eviction of 18 Palestinians from their home in Silwan, handing their property to the Jewish National Fund (JNF). The eviction order ends a 30-year-long legal battle between the family and the JNF. In Gaza, 109 Palestinians were injured during the 75th Great March of Return protest, including 52 injuries by Israeli live ammunition. In the West Bank, Israeli forces sealed off the main entrance to Bayt Umar north of Hebron. Israeli forces also arrested 4 Palestinians during late-night raids in Yatta and Halhul in the Hebron area. In Kafr Qaddum, Israeli forces violently suppressed the weekly anti-settlement demonstrations leading to 3 injuries. In Gaza, 87 were wounded by Israeli forces opening fire on the Great March of Return protesters, including 44 that were hit by Israeli live ammunition. 4 Palestinians were arrested for traversing the Gaza fence into Israel. In the West Bank, 1 Palestinian was killed by Israeli forces after hitting 2 Israeli settlers near the Gush Etzion settlement; it is unclear if the hit was deliberate. The Palestinian’s wife and child were in the car during the incident. Elsewhere, 2 Palestinians were injured by Israeli forces violently dispersing the anti-settlement protests in Kafr Qaddum. 1 Palestinian paramedic was injured by Israeli forces using a rubber-coated bullet during a protest in Abu Dis. In East Jerusalem, Israeli member of the Knesset Ofer Cassif (Hadash) was attacked by Israeli police during a protest in Shaykh Jarrah. Israeli police tried to confiscate a Palestinian flag he was waving and when he and his aide resisted, the police assaulted the 2 and detained Cassif’s aide. After barring Congresswomen Ilhan Omar (D-MN) and Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) from visiting Israel and the West Bank, Israel’s Interior Ministry allowed a request by Congresswoman Tlaib to visit her family in the West Bank under a number of conditions, including limiting her freedom of speech. In the West Bank, 2 Palestinians were injured by Israeli forces during the weekly anti-settlement protest in Kafr Qaddum. Israeli forces also violently dispersed a protest in Sur al-Bahir, injuring at least 1 Palestinian. 3 Palestinians were arrested during daytime raids in and around Nablus and Jenin. In Gaza, Israeli forces injured 49 Palestinians, including 24 with live ammunition during the Great March of Return protests. 1 Palestinian was arrested after crossing the Gaza fence. In the West Bank, dozens of Palestinians performed Friday prayers in the Wadi Hummus neighborhood where 13 apartment buildings were demolished on 7/22. After the prayers, clashes erupted between protesters and Israeli soldiers, leading to tear-gas-related injuries. Elsewhere in the West Bank, 3 Palestinians were injured by Israeli forces using rubber-coated bullets to disperse the weekly anti-settlement protest in Kafr Qaddum; other protesters suffered from tear ­gas inhalation.
