In the Ramallah area, 2 Palestinians are killed in separate incidents. First, IDF troops shoot and kill a Palestinian driver n. of Ramallah after he rams his car into a group of Israeli soldiers, injuring 2. Meanwhile, IDF troops set up a mobile checkpoint in a village nr. Elsewhere in the oPt, IDF troops violently clash with Palestinian, Israeli, and international activists at Friday demonstrations against the Israeli occupation in 6 areas nr. Ramallah (Bil‘in, Ni‘lin, Nabi Salih, Budrus, Jalazun r.c., and outside Ofer Prison), 2 areas nr. Qalqilya, 1 village nr. Hebron, 4 neighborhoods in East Jerusalem, and 4 areas along Gaza’s border; 36 Palestinians are injured (1 will succumb to his injures on 12/31). The IDF also conducts late-night raids and house searches in 1 village nr. Hebron and Tulkarm r.c., arresting 2 Palestinians; patrols in Tulkarm and 4 villages nr. Hebron. Along Gaza’s border, IDF troops fire artillery shells at a Palestinian bird hunter and 2 other Palestinians approaching the border fence e. of Khan Yunis, causing moderate injuries to each and damaging 2 homes in the area. Off Gaza’s n. coast, Israeli naval forces open fire on Palestinian fishing boats, causing no damage or injuries. The Egyptian authorities close the Rafah border crossing in the evening, having kept it open for 2 days. Small-scale incidents continue to characterize the ongoing wave of violence as armed Palestinians open fire on an Israeli vehicle driving s. of Hebron, killing 2 settlers and injuring 2 more. After the incident, the IDF closes the entrances to 2 nearby villages and al-Fawar r.c., patrols in 12 villages nr. Hebron, and conducts searches and raids in the area, arresting 2 Palestinians and issuing arrest summons to 2 more. Separately, IDF troops shoot and kill a Palestinian youth nr. The Israeli crackdown on the oPt continues as well. IDF troops clash with and violently disperse Palestinians protesting in 3 areas along Gaza’s border, 1 village nr. Hebron, w. of Qalqilya, 1 village nr. Nablus, and 2 areas nr. Ramallah; 1 Palestinian is killed and 49 are injured (2 international journalists are injured in the Gaza clashes). The IDF also violently disperses Palestinian, Israeli, and international activists at Friday demonstrations against Israel’s occupation and recent attacks in the oPt in 4 villages nr. Ramallah (Bil‘in, Ni‘lin, Silwad, and Nabi Salih) as well as Kafr Qaddum nr. Qalqilya; 1 Palestinian is injured. Late at night, Israeli forces carry out the punitive demolition of 3 homes in Nablus and 2 nr. Ramallah belonging to Palestinians who committed recent attacks on Israelis. Israeli soldiers conduct a raid in a village nr. Jenin, arresting 1 Palestinian. Off Gaza’s n. coast, Israeli naval forces open fire on Palestinian fishing boats, causing no damage or injuries. In East Jerusalem, Israeli forces violently disperse Palestinians protesting in Jabal Mukabir; there are no serious injuries. They also assault and arrest a Palestinian child in Shaykh Jarrah. Stabbing and other small-scale violent incidents continue to characterize the ongoing wave of violence. A Palestinian stabs and seriously injures an Israeli settler outside a grocery store in a settlement nr. Ramallah (he will take credit for the attack in a video uploaded to Facebook hours later and turn himself into the Palestinian authorities). The Hebron area, in particular, sees much of the day’s violence. Israeli soldiers shoot and kill an elderly Palestinian woman as she drives her vehicle toward them in an alleged ramming attack; 2 Palestinian bystanders are injured when Israeli gunfire shatters the vehicle’s windows. IDF troops surround a mosque in c. Hebron, sparking clashes with Palestinians after they finish praying inside; 8 Palestinians are injured. Also in the city, a Palestinian shoots and injures an Israeli settler n. of Hebron, and another Palestinian shoots and injures 2 Israelis nr. al-Ibrahimi Mosque. As the Israeli crackdown continues across the oPt, IDF troops clash with and violently disperse Palestinians protesting and throwing stones in 3 areas along Gaza’s border, outside a settlement nr. Ramallah, and in 2 villages nr. Hebron; 1 Palestinian is killed and 29 are injured. The IDF also violently disperses Palestinians, Israelis, and international activists at Friday demonstrations against Israel’s occupation and recent violence in the oPt in 4 villages nr. Ramallah (Bil‘in, Ni‘lin, Nabi Salih, and Silwad) and 2 nr. Qalqilya (Kafr Qaddum and Jayyus); 3 Palestinians are injured. The IDF patrols in 1 village nr. Hebron and 2 nr. Nablus; conducts late-night house searches and raids in Hebron and 2 nearby villages, as well as 2 villages nr. Nablus, arresting 4 Palestinians. IDF troops open fire on 2 Palestinians, killing 1 and injuring the other, after they allegedly attempt to stab an Israeli border policeman at a checkpoint nr. Nablus. In East Jerusalem, Israeli forces shoot and seriously injure a Palestinian after he stabs and moderately injures an Israeli at a light rail station nr. Shaykh Jarrah (the Palestinian succumbs to his injuries later in the day). An Israeli bystander is accidentally shot and injured during the incident. The Israeli crackdown across the oPt continues as well, with IDF troops clashing with and violently dispersing Palestinian protesters nr. Hebron, Bethlehem, Ramallah, and in 4 locations along Gaza’s border; an 8-mo.-old Palestinian baby dies from tear gas inhalation nr. Bethlehem, 1 Palestinian is rammed with an IDF vehicle, and 63 are injured overall. Israeli forces also violently disperse Palestinian, Israeli, and international activists at Friday demonstrations against Israel’s occupation and recent violence in 4 villages nr. Ramallah (Bil‘in, Ni‘lin, Silwad, and Nabi Salih) and Kafr Qaddum nr. Qalqilya; there are no serious injuries. The IDF conducts a late-night raid nr. Ramallah, arresting 1 Palestinian; patrols in the Ramallah, Hebron, and Qalqilya areas, sparking clashes with stone-throwers in each (5 Palestinians are injured and 2 are arrested). Further patrols in 4 villages nr. Hebron and 2 nr. Qalqilya do not lead to clashes. Israeli forces return the bodies of 7 Palestinians killed by IDF troops in and around Hebron since 10/1. They also place concrete blocks and fences on a number of roads in c. Hebron and bar Palestinians who do not live in Hebron from entering the city, following the recent violence in the area. PA pres. Abbas submits files to the International Criminal Court (ICC) documenting recent Israeli violations of international law in the oPt, including the recent “extrajudicial killings” and home demolitions. Stabbing attacks continue in the West Bank today. Private Israeli settlement security guards shoot and kill a Palestinian youth at a checkpoint nr. Jenin after he allegedly stabs and injures an Israeli soldier. IDF troops shoot and injure a Palestinian youth after he stabs and lightly injures an Israeli soldier in the Gush Etzion settlement bloc nr. Bethlehem. (HA, MNA, YA 10/23; PCHR 10/29)

Elsewhere in the oPt, IDF troops clash with and violently disperse Palestinians throwing stones and protesting in 3 locations along Gaza’s border and across the West Bank, injuring 117 Palestinians and arresting 3. They also violently disperse Palestinian, Israeli, and international activists at Friday demonstrations against Israel’s separation wall, settlements, occupation, and recent violence in 4 villages nr. Ramallah (Bil‘in, Ni‘lin, Nabi Salih, and Silwad) and Kafr Qaddum nr. Qalqilya; 1 Palestinian is seriously injured. Meanwhile, the IDF conducts raids and house searches in Jalazun r.c. nr. Israeli settlers attack and attempt to stab the head of the Israeli group Rabbis for Human Rights while he is assisting with the Palestinian olive harvest nr. The IDF arrests a 2d Palestinian at the scene of the incident and closes a nearby checkpoint, sparking clashes with Palestinian youths in the area; there are no serious injuries. IDF troopsshoot and injure a Palestinian youth nr. Nablus overnight, later alleging that he was trying to sneak into a settlement with a knife. After the incident, Israeli forces set up mobile checkpoints at the entrances to 2 nearby villages. A Palestinian driver rams an Israeli border security officer at a checkpoint nr. Ramallah, causing light injuries. Later, IDF troops shoot and injure another Palestinian driver outside the Gush Etzion settlement bloc nr. Hebron after he rams a group of Israeli soldiers, injuring 5. Israeli forces shoot and kill a Jewish Israeli nr. the Old City of East Jerusalem late at night after he attempts to take a soldier’s weapon and they mistake him for a “Palestinian attacker,” according to the police. The Israeli crackdown continues as well. Israeli forces obstruct the entrance to Ni‘lin village nr. Ramallah with cement blocks for the 2d day in a row; assault and detain a Palestinian youth at a checkpoint nr. Bethlehem. Throughout the day, IDF troops clash with and violently disperse Palestinian protesters along the border with Gaza, in c. Hebron, nr. Ramallah, and 1 neighborhood in East Jerusalem; 1 Palestinian dies of tear gas inhalation and 4 are injured. The IDF conducts late-night raids and house searches across East Jerusalem and the West Bank, arresting 58 Palestinians. Israeli settlers throw stones at Palestinian vehicles at the entrance of a village nr. Nablus. In East Jerusalem, Israeli forces set up a new checkpoint between al-Tur and Wadi al-Juz and they remove checkpoints in Wadi al-Juz and Shaykh Jarrah; demolish a livestock farm in Jabal Mukabir. Cross-border violence continues in Gaza as IDF troops violently disperse Palestinians protesting nr. the Erez border crossing and e. of al-Bureij r.c., injuring 14 Palestinians. The Israeli authorities then temporarily close the crossing. Later, IDF troops armed with sniper rifles open fire on a group of Palestinians in an agricultural area along the border fence nr. al-Bureij r.c., killing 1 and injuring 2. The IDF releases a statement describing the incident as an operation designed to “eradicate” a group of armed Palestinian fighters allegedly responsible for several attacks on IDF patrols along the border in recent weeks. Stabbing and alleged stabbing attacks continue amid the ongoing wave of violence. In the West Bank, IDF troops shoot and kill a Palestinian during early morning clashes in a village nr. Hebron. The IDF says that the soldiers used live ammunition only after the man attempted to stab 1 of them. In the evening, IDF troops shoot and kill 2 Palestinian youths in c. Hebron as they are walking home amid a minor protest (the IDF says that they stabbed a soldier in the area). A Palestinian driver rams and kills an Israeli settler nr. Hebron. The Palestinian driver reports the incident later in the day to Palestinian police as an accident. Later, another Palestinian driver rams an Israeli soldier and a settler outside a settlement nr. Jerusalem, injuring both. IDF troops shoot and kill the Palestinian when he exits his vehicle, allegedly holding a knife. After the incident, the IDF raids the Palestinian driver’s home nr. Elsewhere in the oPt, IDF troops violently disperse Palestinian protesters across the West Bank, injuring 18 Palestinians. Israeli forces also obstruct the entrance to Ni‘lin village nr. Ramallah with cement blocks, sparking clashes with stone-throwing Palestinian youths and injuring 2 Palestinians with live ammunition. The IDF conducts late-night raids throughout the West Bank and East Jerusalem, arresting 41 Palestinians. Meanwhile, Israeli settlers assault Palestinians and their property in the Hebron, Jenin, and Salfit areas. Palestinian schools and businesses in Issawiyya, East Jerusalem, conduct a general strike in protest of the Israeli authorities’ recent restrictions on access to the neighborhood. Violence escalates in the West Bank as settlers and Israeli forces continue retaliating against Palestinians in the wake of the 10/1 killing of 2 settlers. Israeli settlers protest on a main road outside Nablus, and the IDF disperses the ensuing clashes with stonethrowing Palestinian youths. Meanwhile, settlers set fire to dozens of olive trees and Palestinian agricultural land nr. Nablus, and throw stones at drivers nr. Salfit, injuring 3 Palestinian medics. Late at night, IDF troops conduct raids in and around Nablus searching for the perpetrators of the killing; they arrest 10 Palestinians and deliver a demolition notice to the home of a suspect. Clashes erupt with stone-throwers, and the IDF injures 11 youths with live ammunition. Elsewhere in the West Bank, IDF troops violently disperse Palestinian, Israeli, and international protesters at demonstrations against the Israeli occupation and recent access restrictions at Haram al-Sharif in 6 areas nr. Ramallah (Bil‘in, Ni‘lin, Nabi Salih, Silwad, Jalazun r.c., and Budrus), Kafr Qaddum nr. Qalqilya, and 2 areas nr. Hebron; 6 Palestinians are injured, including 1 journalist. Israeli forces arrest 6 Palestinians in connection with clashes between Palestinian youths and Israeli settlers the day before in a village outside Bethlehem. IDF troops clash with Palestinian stonethrowers during patrols in and around Hebron, and outside Nablus Palestinian youths throw stones at 2 Israeli settlers, causing light injuries. Violence also continues in East Jerusalem, with the Israeli authorities continuing to enforce the restrictions on access at Haram al-Sharif that were announced on 9/27 for the Jewish holiday Sukkoth. Israeli forces temporarily seal the entrances to Issawiyya and shoot stun grenades at residents who approach their mobile checkpoints, sparking intermittent clashes; 1 Palestinian is seriously injured. The Israeli crackdown on protests in East Jerusalem continues as the Israeli authorities restrict Palestinians’ access to Haram al-Sharif; only men over 40 and women are permitted to enter the sanctuary. Meanwhile, Israeli forces clash with Palestinian protesters across the city for the 2d day in a row (nr. the Old City and in Jabal Mukabir, Silwan, Issawiyya, Shu‘fat r.c., al-Tur, Abu Dis, al-‘Izzariya, and Wadi al-Juz); at least 4 Israeli police and 4 Palestinians are injured, and 11 Palestinians are arrested. Israeli forces also conduct raids and house searches in Silwan, Jabal Mukabir, Shaykh Jarrah, and the Old City, arresting 16 Palestinians and sparking minor clashes. As violence and tension spread from Jerusalem across the oPt, unknown persons launch a rocket from Gaza into Israel that lands in Sderot, damaging a bus. Iron Dome missile defense batteries intercept a 2d rocket fired toward Ashqelon. At night, IAF jets launch retaliatory air strikes on 3 Hamas military sites in n. Gaza, causing 2 minor injuries and serious damage. Off the coast nr. Bayt Lahiya, Israeli naval forces open fire on Palestinian fishing boats, causing no damage. Israeli forces e. of al-Bureij r.c. arrest 2 Palestinians attempting to cross into Israel. Late at night, Israeli forces stationed e. of Gaza City open fire on and arrest 2 Palestinians approaching the border fence. In the West Bank, IDF troops search the Nablus home of the city’s PA police chief, evicting his wife and children. Forces conduct further raids and house searches in Nablus, and nr. Israeli Air Force (IAF) jets conduct an air strike targeting a vehicle in the Syrian Golan Heights between 10 and 15 km from the Israeli border, killing at least 4 of the PIJ mbrs. allegedly responsible for the 8/20 rocket attack on Israel. In Gaza, 2 Palestinian children are injured when an unexploded piece of Israeli ordnance detonates in n. Rafah. In the West Bank, IDF troops violently disperse Palestinian, Israeli, and international protesters at Friday demonstrations against the Israeli occupation in 6 areas nr. Ramallah (Bil‘in, Ni‘lin, Nabi Salih, Silwad, Jalazun r.c., and outside Ofer Prison) and Kafr Qaddum; 5 Palestinians are injured and 3 are arrested. In East Jerusalem, Israeli officials deliver demolition notices to a mosque, house, and apartment in Silwan, where there has been a recent increase in Palestinian home demolitions and evictions in order for Israel to increase the neighborhood’s Jewish settler population.
