In the West Bank, Israeli forces delivered stop-work notices for 18 structures in Qarawat Bani Hassan. Israeli forces also demolished 1 house under construction in Furush Beit Dajan, 1 agricultural structure in al-Jib, and 4 houses in Jiftlik. 21 Palestinians were arrested during late-night raids in Bethlehem, Beit Fajjar, Dheisheh refugee camp, Aqabat Jaber refugee camp, Tammun, Kafr Ni‘ma, Jenin, Qalqilya, Hebron, and Beit Umar. In the West Bank, Israeli settlers and Israeli forces clashed with Palestinians after Israeli settlers set up a tent and caravan near Dayr Sharif. Israeli forces destroyed an irrigation system in Jiftlik, demolished 1 residential structure in Susiya, and seized 1 concrete mixing pump in Yatta. 23 Palestinians were arrested during late-night raids in and around Ramallah, Hebron, Nablus, Qalqilya, and Shu‘fat. In Gaza, Israel fired missiles at Bayt Lahiya causing damage after alleging that incendiary balloons from Gaza caused damage in Israel. In the West Bank, Israeli forces razed 5 dunams (1.2 acres) of land and demolished an agricultural shack in Tarqumiyya; razed 50 dunams (12 acres) of land east of Salfit; and destroyed a water piping system in Jiftlik. Israeli settlers attacked 5 Palestinian shepherds in al-Mughayyir; 3 of the victims needed medical attention for the injuries. 4 Palestinians were arrested during raids in and around Ramallah, al-Bireh, Hebron, and Qalqilya. In East Jerusalem, Israeli forces raided the offices of the Palestinian organization Volunteer for Hope in Bayt Hanina, seizing 4 computers, and summoned its director for questioning. Separately, 3 Palestinians were arrested. In Gaza, Israeli forces made incursions to raze agricultural lands north of Bayt Lahiya. Israel’s transportation ministry said it had approved a 2-mile tunnel extending the Tel Aviv-Jerusalem high-speed railway to the Western Wall. The Jordanian foreign ministry called the plan a “fragrant violation of international law.” (BBC 2/18)

Israeli forces shoot and kill a Palestinian driver after he allegedly attempts to ram them outside Ithna village near Hebron. Elsewhere in the West Bank, IDF troops shoot and injure 5 Palestinians during clashes sparked by raids in Surda and Nabi Salih villages near Ramallah and Bayt Umar near Hebron. The IDF also conducts raids in Ramallah for a 2d day in a row, sparking clashes with Palestinian residents of the area; 6 Palestinians are lightly injured. Meanwhile, Israeli forces demolish a Palestinian home in Jiftlik. Shortly after the demolition, they open fire on a Palestinian driver allegedly attempting to ram them. The driver, who is later identified as the owner of the demolished home, is lightly injured and his car is damaged. Israeli soldiers then assault and arrest him. Separately, Israeli forces issue stop-work orders to Palestinians building new classrooms onto a school in Bayt Dajan near Nablus. An IDF spokesperson announces that Israeli forces have discovered another of Hezbollah’s cross-border tunnels in the context of Operation Northern Shield. According to the spokesperson, the tunnel has been booby-trapped so anyone entering from the Lebanese side would “face a serious danger to their lives.” Meanwhile, Lebanese president Michel Aoun says that U.S. officials have told him that Israel has no “aggressive intentions” behind Operation Northern Shield, adding that he too has no “aggressive intentions.” Aoun also says that his government takes the issue of Hezbollah’s tunnels “seriously.” Tensions along the border remain relatively low, although sources both in Israel and Lebanon say that there is potential for the situation to escalate quickly. In the West Bank, IDF troops conduct a raid in Burqa village near Nablus, sparking clashes with stone-throwing Palestinian youths; 1 Palestinian is injured. Another Palestinian is injured in clashes sparked by an IDF raid in Bayt ‘Aynun near Hebron. IDF troops arrest 4 Palestinians and issue 1 arrest summons during raids near Bethlehem, Qalqilya, and Ramallah. Along Gaza’s border, Israeli forces spray Palestinian farmlands nr. Rafah with herbicides overnight and conduct a limited incursion to level land nr. Khan Yunis late at night. In East Jerusalem, Israeli settlers spray price-tag graffiti and slash the tires of at least 17 Palestinian vehicles overnight in Shu‘fat. U.S. Secy. of State John Kerry meets with Israeli justice minister Tzipi Livni and Special Envoy Yitzhak Molcho in Amman, their 4th meeting since Kerry’s arrival in the region on 5/23. During talks in Brussels, EU foreign ministers fail to reach agreement on supplying arms to Syrian rebels but reinstate sanctions on Damascus and lift an arms embargo for the opposition.
